Rain Dancer (Town Support)

Postby Tzedrik » Sun Nov 15, 2015 11:47 pm

Role Name: Rain Dancer

Role Alignment: Town Support (or Investigate, it depends how you see it)

You are skilled in the art of making rain fall.

Abilities: Decide if you will execute a rain dance the next day

Attributes:
- It only rains during the night
- Everyone will be noticed if it will rain tonight
- Everyone that goes outside during a rain will be drench the next morning
- At the beginning of the day a list of drenched people will be show to everyone
- You can execute only 2 rain dances
- It can't rain 2 days in a row
- You may choose to drenched yourself on rainy nights

Special Attributes: Unique role. Not unique anymore

Goal: Lynch every criminal and evildoer.

Wins with: Town, Survivors

Investigative Results:
- Sheriff: Your target is not suspicious.
- Investigator: Your target enjoys dances and tricks. They must be a Jester, Disguiser, or Rain Dancer.
- Your target keeps to themselves. They could be a Survivor, Vampire Hunter, Witch or Rain Dancer.
- Orange's Investigator: Your target is a loner. They must be a Retributionist, Rain Dancer, or Witch.
- Consigliere: Your target is dancing in the rain. They must be a Rain Dancer.

Additional Information (comments):
I thought about making this a day ability but I don't want people using it to confirm they are townies. So that's why the choice is made the previous night.
If you decide to execute a dance, everyone will get the message:"The air is heavy, it should rain tonight."
It works about the same way as an amnesiac who choose a role during the night and the notice everyone gets the next morning.

The Rain Dancer is not unique anymore but the "It can't rain 2 days in a row" still applies. If there are 2 Rain Dancers and one of them makes rain fall during night 2, for example, the other can't make rain fall during night 3. If both of them choose to make a dance for the same night, which is likely to happen early on, they both spend 1 use without knowing that the other also did so.

On rainy night, the Rain Dancer can now choose to click a button to get himself drenched. He doesn't actually visit anyone, he just "dance" outside. What's the point you wonder? First, it makes sense that the Rain Dancer himself can choose to be drenched or not. Second, since it's not unique anymore, it helps other roles to fakeclaim it. Basically, you don't have to explain why you are drenched if you claim to be a Rain Dancer. This action can be roleblocked and the Rain Dancer would be forced to stay inside. This action might also be more relevant if more properties are added to the "drenched status" later on.

Since it can't rain 2 days in a row, it could take quite some time to figure out if there is 1 or 2 Rain Dancers. Being Town Support, having 2 Rain Dancers is very possible. Also, seeing the new invest groups match-up that are coming, this could give another claim to Witches beside Vampire Hunter. That being said, Witches still need to be careful, their roleblock immunity might turns against them ;)

The role is quite simple but hard to explain so here is an example:

Day 1- nothing happens
Night 1- you decide to execute a dance

Day 2- everyone gets the message:"The air is heavy, it should rain tonight"
Night 2- everyone gets the message:"It's raining hard outside" (similar to the full moon message)
John (Mafioso), Mary (Sheriff) and Samuel (Witch) use their respective night ability.

Day 3- everyone can see who is drenched and who is not in the morning. It could be something like:
"John is drenched"
"Mary is drenched"
"Samuel is drenched" (or something else, the point is that everyone can tell who went outside last night)

Rain has no effect on the cycle of the moon and it doesn't undouse people. Non visiting roles, such as Medium or Jester, can be drenched if a Witch controls them and targets someone else. Jailing someone protects him from the rain. Transporting people makes Transporter drenched but not his 2 targets, unless they use their own ability.

Optional idea : Drenched people cannot died from Arsonist during that night. In other words, if you are doused and it's raining, by going outside you are safe from ignition. It still doesn't undouse you and it last only for 1 night. It doesn't really nerf the Arsonist since he knows beforehand about the rain and it still doesn't prevent him from dousing anyway. If he really feel like igniting he might go for it since some roles ( like Medium, Mayor and Retributionist) don't have any visiting ability anyway.
What would come from this:
- Might force doused people (even scum roles like Godfather and Serial Killer) to use their ability to get the protection
- Could prevent Rain Dancers from spending all their uses early on since Arsonist usually ignites at the end of the game
- Would give a reason for scum roles to claim Rain Dancer, even if there was no rain so far, by saying he is keeping them for late game
- Might prevent any more Firefighter style role ideas :)

Reason for idea:
Town needs new role ideas. This role is meant to help Investigative by letting them know who went outside last night. Since everyone knows beforehand about the rain, it is also meant to scare bad roles away, especially those who claimed Medium or Survivor and don't want to blow their cover.
Bold Mafia/Neutral Killing may still go for it anyway if they don't mind playing risky. It could also backfire. Mafia will know who is active at night and could targets those early on.

Achievements:
Mother Nature's Job - Execute a rain dance
Drizzle - Win your first game as the Rain Dancer
Cloud Seeding - Win 5 games as the Rain Dancer
Raining Cats and Dogs - Win 10 games as the Rain Dancer
Pluviophile - Win 25 games as the Rain Dancer
Wet Dream - Get yourself drenched
Group Shower - Get at least 5 people drenched in a single night

Trying to be original. Criticism and suggestions are welcome :D

This is a very creative idea, and has some good info to share, maybe it should be Investigative. Also, idea, make it so the town isn't notified during the day that it will rain the next night. I like the idea of the delay, it balances out.
Overall, nice role idea. I like it, but maybe change the name, I don't know what yet though.

At first I thought about naming it Meteorologist or something similar, but Rain Dancer sounded more appropriate. It also gave a good invest result with jester and disguiser. Not telling town during the day is an interesting idea too, they will notice it anyway during the night.

The thing is that a new set of Investigator results will be introduced in one of the next few patches. Probably this one. I would say pair it with Retributionist and Witch, and allow Vampire Hunter to be put with Vampire.
Also, I just realized Arsonist vs Rain ._.

I edited the role and added Orange's invest result.
I said rain doesn't remove the "doused" status to avoid any confusion, even if it would make sense. Then again, getting doused and not doing anything about it for many days doesn't make sense either ._.

the role is interesting but i feel like 3 times is too much so i suggests limited it to only 2 times (3 times = 9 investigation results from 2 invests/sheriff + 1 jailor OR kind-of a mayor whisper game)

i like it, its a nice concept for a new town role that's not broken by any means, and has its utilities ^^
It could intimidate killers when its raining, but they can still get corageous and go for it anyways.

Shaman could work for name too, although this name tells exactly what the role does.
Favorite Role: Jailor :3
Loved Roles: Lookout, Vet, Transporter, BodyGuard, Consigliere.
Likeable Roles: Other Townies, Witch, Arsonist.
Okay Roles: Amnesiac, Jester, Janitor.
Passable Roles: Survie, SK, Other Maf.
Detested Roles: Executioner, Framer.

1: If the town notice the rain, with either the "The air is heavy, it should rain tonight" or with "It's raining hard outside", everybody who goes outside will be drenched, even if the Rain Dancer himself dies.
2: The roleblock immunity could be debatable. As it is, it's a night ability so it would be like roleblocking an amnesiac and the rain dance is blocked. If it was a day ability, like the jailor's, it would be immune to roleblock. This could be done by removing the "The air is heavy, it should rain tonight" notice and letting the Rain Dancer use his ability during the day. People will notice the rain just when the night falls.
3: Yes it is, so the Rain Dancer himself would not be drenched, unless we decide otherwise for RP purpose.
4: Nope, only (c) will be drenched. However (a) and (b) could still be drenched if they use their own night ability.

Some parts can still be tweak for balance or consistency.

Perhaps, send it in to bloodring to be tested.

oh, one thing. i don't see the point of 'It can't rain 2 days in a row' (i know its to prevent spam ability but.. why? it isn't that broken imo even if the best play is use it asap), could you remove it?

Thank for your suggestions guys.

I put Support instead of Investigative because I thought of it as a support to other Investigative roles. I'll leave it like this for now, but I don't mind changing it later, it's not a big deal.

The number of rain could be decreased to 2 if need to. I'll edit the role to include it (2 or 3). I haven't try it myself so I have no idea if 3 is too many.
The part about not raining 2 days in a row was indeed to avoid spamming it the first 3 nights. I think a good spy, or any good Investigative, and 3 consecutive days of rain right from the start could give Town to much of a head start.

And again, this role doesn't affect the Arsonist in any way, poor Arsonist doesn't need to be nerf. The only question I have is if he ignites, does he get drenched since he doesn't visit his target? Logically I would say yes, unless you think it would make more sense if Arso can't ignite during the rain (but can still douse).
I'm still open for ideas to improve it :D

Question: Serial Killer kills the Escort/Consort/Jailor who roleblocked them in a rainy night. Will the Serial Killer be shown as drenched or dry?

Are you saying Jesters don't usually come up with good role ideas? Because that is not true. I've seen lots of people who only get support because they have a high post count, and I think that should be stopped, but you can't really stop bias. It's not helping by implying Jesters don't make good role ideas though.
