Hydra: A Game of Many Personalities

Standard Rules:

Spoiler: 1. Be respectful. This is meant to be a fun game, so please don't insult or harass other members for any reason.

2. Please do not spam. This is a discussion based game, so it's expected it will be moving quickly at times, but remember that not everyone is always on. It can be difficult to keep up with and spam only makes it worse. Just keep this in mind as you play.

3. Do not gamethrow. This covers any action which goes against your role's goals, with the exception of when it is impossible for you to win. If you have any questions about this (now or during the game), please PM me. Breaking this rule can result in being blacklisted from future games.

4. I will give a prod to players who do not post for 36 hours. Players will be given 18 hours to respond by posting in the thread. Not responding to a prod or receiving a second prod means removal from the game. I also expect everyone to post at least once Day 1; anyone who doesn't should PM me during the first 12 hours of night (I'll put a reminder in the day end post) or they will be prodded.

5. Death Notes, Last Wills, and Day/Night Actions should all be sent to me with appropriate subjects ("Death Note", "Last Will", "Day Action", "Night Action"). They also should be sent in separate PMs. I won't be searching your "Last Will" PM for night actions, for example.

6. There will be no whispers in this game.

7. Don't forget about Guzame's Rules here. If you notice someone breaking the rules, please link the offending post(s) with an explanation in a PM to me. I don't anticipate this being a problem, but better safe than sorry.

8. Flavor text is from the perspective of the players. It should not be used to deduce anything about the role list or a given player's role.

9. Finally, this is not an official episode. No titles will be awarded to the victors.

Unique rules and setup

  1. 30 players will join in the beginning. Everyone will be paired up with another player. This is your partner for the entire game; you will share all night actions/results and a role, effectively functioning as one player. Once signups are full, I will allow approximately 24 hours for anyone to send a PM with up to 3 people they feel they cannot work with, as the partners will be chosen via RNG and I don't want anyone to not have fun because of a personal disagreement and bad luck. This will be done before the game begins.

    • If you cannot decide on a night action the first partner will overrule on odd nights and the second on evens. Both partners should send me their night actions each night.
    • Voting will also be shared, both being voted against and your votes. If one partner receives 3 votes and the other 5 with the majority being 8 they will be lynched. This also means both partners must be voting the same person for the vote to count.
    • Partners may privately talk about the game at any point with each other only. Make sure everything stays between just you two. Please double check who you're talking to if chatting on Skype or another messenger where it's extremely easy to post in the wrong chat.
    • Prodding and related mod actions will be the only thing not shared between partners.
  2. Whispers have been removed for this game.
  3. The Medium will work relatively the same, each partner gets two questions and may ask a specific player a question at night; their partner will be notified of both the question and answer. Questions and responses must still follow the guidelines on the rolecard.
  4. Jailor and Lawyer will work the same, so be sure to stay coordinated. Should there be a Mayor, both players must reveal in the thread for it to count.
  5. The Agent, instead of tapping, will gain the ability to anonymously and secretly privately message a player with a 200 character note, this may be done 3 times per day.
  6. The Spy, instead of tapping, will gain the ability to see how many non-town, excluding Godfather, voted on the person to be lynched. This can only be done once per game.

You are a Marshal

Your alignment is Town Protective.

Once a figurehead of the law, you experienced a horrific accident and have vowed not to kill anymore. Instead you decide to use your presence as a deterrent to these thugs that have rooted themselves in your hometown.

Each night you may choose to follow a player. Your presence scares one malicious person from targeting them.
You will be informed if you protected your target from any role with the exception of Mafia Deception, and whoever you scare away will be notified regardless of their role.
Should your target be visited by multiple people with malicious intent, only one will flee. (Mafia Deception > Witch/Escort/Consort > Killing Roles)
Unless you are successful, guarding a player twice in a row will allow killing roles to slip through.
Stalker's ignore your presence as they fear nothing.

Godfather

You are the Godfather

Your alignment is Mafia Killing

You are the lord of crime in this town, and have decided that it belongs to the mafia.
You try to achieve this by systematically killing off one of the citizens each night.

You are unkillable at night. If somebody tries to attack you, they will receive a message saying that you were immune.
You have the ability to order one death each night, which a Mafioso will carry out for you.
As the leader of the Mafia every other member will report to you what happened to them each night.
If there are no Mafiosos left, or they're unable to kill for whatever reason, you will kill your target yourself.
You can communicate with your allies each night, for as long as they are alive.

With your skill, the Mafia was glad to hire you in exchange for your services.

Each night you have the ability to frame one player of your choice. If they're inspected by the Sheriff that night, it'll say they're a Mafia member. You may also choose which role they appear as should they be inspected by the Investigator.
If there are no other kill capable Mafia players left, your role will become that of a Mafioso.
You can communicate with your allies each night, for as long as they are alive.

You were a once great actor lured into the Mafia with the promise of fortune and a chance for a final performance. You can fool the most observant people with your costumes and antics.

Every night you may visit two players swapping all of their investigative results. The only investigative role who will not be fooled is the Sheriff, so watch out!
If there are no other kill capable Mafia players left, your role will become that of a Mafioso.
You can communicate with your allies each night, for as long as they are alive.

Your allies are [x] the [role], [x] the [role], and [x] the [role].

You win with the Mafia

Your alignment is Town Investigative.

You were once used in battle with the goal of gaining information about enemy tactics.
You were able to retire young, having gained the support of the military who in turn paid you very handsomely.
However, your stay in the town of Salem does not remain the peaceful retirement you once envisioned due to the Mafia invasion.

Once per game, you may see how many non-town (excluding the Godfather) voted to lynch a player.
You also have the ability to see who the Mafia visit at night. You will not know what Mafia role visited which player; all you will know is that they were visited by a member of the Mafia.

You win with the Town
You win with Survivors
You must kill the Mafia
You must kill Arsonists
You must kill Witches
You must kill Serial Killers
You must kill Stalkers
You must kill Bombers
You may spare anyone else


Medium

You are a Medium.

Your alignment is Town Support.

You are a powerful psychic who can communicate with the dead.
The dead cannot comprehend our speech, and we cannot comprehend theirs. That is where you come in - you are the translator in the middle!

Each night you may ask any dead player a question with a 75 character limit.
The dead player can send you a 150 character answer to the question. They do not have to answer the question, nor tell the truth. However, the answer MUST be relevant only to the question, at the Game Moderator's discretion.
The dead only have until the end of the Night Phase to answer you back.
Dead players being contacted by a Medium are still permitted to private message other dead players as well.
Each partner may ask 2 questions each night (for a total of 4 questions). They do not have to be to the same person.

Agent

(This role is still in the experimental stages ~ It will not yet appear in Episodes for the time being.)

You are an Agent.

Your alignment is Mafia Support.

You were a brilliant Spy in your early days, one of the best in the country. However, on one mission you were captured - by the Godfather.
To your great surprise, he wanted to help you retire after all your years of service. The deal was simple. Use your talents to collect sensitive information from the townsfolk and he will rule to grant you whatever you want in this silly little town.

Each day, you may send a total of three anonymous and secret 200 character notes.
Each night you also have the ability to plant a bug on a person. The bug will allow you to see who they visit that night, or if they do at all.
If there are no other kill capable Mafia roles left, your role will become that of Mafioso.
You can communicate with your allies each night, for as long as they are alive.

Your target pays attention to others meticulously! They must be a Investigator or Consigliere.
Your target is very full of themselves! They must be a Sheriff, Disguiser, or Executioner.
Your target smells faintly of chemicals! They must be a Doctor, Transporter, or Arsonist.
Your target has a hand in the supernatural! They must be a Retributionist or Jester.
Your target plays on other people's convictions! They must be a Marshal or Witch.
Your target has no use for the word privacy! They must be a Spy, Lookout, or Agent.
Your target confronts death each night! They must be a Bodyguard, Vigilante, or Serial Killer.
Your target is a leader among the town! They must be a Mayor, Jailor, or Lawyer.
Your target is difficult to get a read on! They must be a Citizen or Godfather.
Your target has forged documents! They can only be a Framer.

Mafia and Framed targets with the exception of Godfather: Your target is a member of the Mafia!
Serial Killer: Your target is a Serial Killer!

It was a strange place that he found himself in. The people seemed to always act in pairs, two partners never far from one another. It was difficult for him to understand; how did they function like this? He saw them at restaurants, enjoying the theatre, even just walking... in twos and fours, sometimes groups more. But there were always an even number of them, nothing odd about it.

Which probably explained the looks he got, travelling down the road by foot, no partner in sight. The man wasn't even sure how he'd gotten there or how to leave; every town was the same as this 'Salem' he'd found himself in, pair activities alienating him completely from making friends or even a casual acquaintance. His attempts to find work had led him all over this strange world, but nothing stuck, his potential employers too afraid of what might happen to a person without someone constantly looking after them.

The looks became less as night fell, the residents returning to their homes quickly and the shadows more easily hiding his singularity. He liked night time more for this reason; no one really bothered him when they were worried more about themselves. He was never really sure what the fuss about dark was, either. Everyone always scattered to their homes hurriedly, as if afraid of something. It wasn't his concern though, as no one really bothered with the oddity of a man by himself. Which is why he didn't concern himself with the footfalls approaching him from behind, a pair stalking him for their kill, and why he was surprised when they made their move, striking him down once and for all. In his last moments, as the pair burned an insignia into the grass next to him, he wondered if his partner would have been more cautious than he.

Well, clearly the Ret needed a new name, so Vale changed it's name to Rickributionist to make it cooler
