This tutorial is from personal experience, incase anyone is retarded enough to look for this on a game forum .
A few things to note - i live in a country where seasons exist, so planting potatoes usually happens in late spring or whenever you think winter is over.
Ive heard potatoes dont go well in countries where the weather is very warm, usually best for countries with slightly colder weather, so keep note. but this is just a rumor, i didnt factcheck anything because im absolutely lazy.
Dirt needs to be prepared, usually needs to be cultivated with a tractor or something but if that isnt avaliable or your garden is too small for that tough luck buddy you will have to do it yourself. Probably with a shovel, never really tried. Makes weeds slightly more manageable and actual work will be easier.
Usually best thing to do is keep potatoes over winter and wait until they shrivel up and start growing these whitish sprouts, usually they are pretty small but can grow up to 30cm or more in length. you will know when you see them.
That means they are the most prepared, but it usually doesnt matter too much, you can use any potato and expect results. usually its best to actually eat the good ones and throw these shriveled up shitters to grow though, but pretty much any potato from the store should be usable if you dont have any.
Size doesnt matter too much either, but if the potato is absolutely tiny chuck several in one spot to guarantee you actually get something out of it. but also don't throw the biggest ones, eat them and throw the mid to low size potatoes. If you only have giants, do not waste them and cut them up in half or something to not waste potato.
Rake a straight, fat enough line in the dirt, before that reccomended you throw in some fertilizer but it really depends on your beliefs.
Walk along the line you drew and chuck the potatoes in it, with gaps between them about something like the lenght of your hand should be about right, if you know you know basically
After that cover the line up and let it grow
eventually you will see green sprouts growing and you know its good then, dont know how long it takes to happen i never pay attention.
Taking care of weeds really only necesarry in the early stages of growth, when the potatoes are big enough you will have no problem. But if you want it to look nice i reccomend getting rid of weeds throughout the growth.
Harvesting can be done whenever you feel confident enough, when the potato flowers start growing these weird tomatoes you should be good to go but to be absolutely confident best time to harvest is Whenever the plants start to slowly wilt. usually late summer/early autumn is a solid time but it can depend of the kind of potato you are planting. some breeds can be harvested really early some cannot.
Rinse and repeat the following year.
To harvest them usually use shovel, never pull the stumps by hand as you can easily leave potatoes behind of you are not careful. the potato you planted, even if you got it from the store fresh, should not be eaten. usually it will be rotten completely, but if it looks okay note that it will have its nutrients sucked out
Corona virus? no food and you are dying from famine? you got potatoes. easy life.
Altho i wouldnt reccomend if you have a really small garden, not really worth the trouble. unless you really enjoy it that is. but if you do its probably better to grow some flowers, potatoes dont look that nice.
