July 2092
It was a year after the particle accelerator explosion. The entire accelerator had since been demolished, and the SAIII converted to the new Salem Defence Centre - created to prevent any other attacks from the North Republic.

The parallel universe was sealed off from this world, the Zombie Overlord and his minions stuck there. But they were hungry - dominance over the parallel world was not enough, and the Overlord had plans to enter the real world and corrupt it with the parallel world's darkness. A link had been opened, and the zombies would soon have enough energy to travel between universes. Three soldiers had been possessed by the resurrection chest and were now controlled by the Overlord.

After numerous paranormal phenomenons from within the town of Salem, a team of scientists working for the military were able to discover the link, realising the source of it were the three soldiers who had opened the resurrection chest. The death of these soldiers would break the link... but no-one knew who these soldiers were.

Eventually, it was narrowed down to 13 soldiers. Three of them were possessed by the overlord and were the source of the link. Nine of them were innocent soldiers, and one of them a crazed traitor of the army. Each death made the link grow stronger, so the link needed to be broken as soon as possible. The small town of Salem needed saving once more.

Rules
  1. All standard Forum and Forum Mafia rules apply. If you have not done so already, please familiarise yourself with these rules and the rules below before signing up.
  2. Awards - This is not an official game, so official titles will not be rewarded.
  3. Respect - At no point during the game should you be disrespectful to any other player. I will not tolerate any homophobic, racist, sexist, or any otherwise discriminatory behaviour. If you’re stressing about the game too much, take a break and come back later. The game is meant to be all about fun, so don’t let yourself ruin that for others.
  4. Gamethrowing - Any attempt to play against your win condition is forbidden, including jesting. All actions should be made with your faction’s best interests in mind.
  5. Prohibited Activities - Under no circumstances should you engage in the following activities:
    • Spam - This includes excessive multi-posting, and unspoilered large images or blocks of text.
    • Codes - No codes can be used to transmit secret information, however signals can be used. Ask a mod if you are unsure of the difference.
    • Angleshooting - Do not used outside-game information to enforce an in-game argument, such as using a replacement as an argument.
    • Outside Communication - All communication should be made in the game-thread, or through another mod-approved medium (such as a mafia chat)
  6. Inactivity - If you do not make any posts for 24 hours I will prod you for inactivity. You will have 12 hours to respond to the prod to avoid replacement. Two prods = automatic replacement.
  7. Messages - Do not directly quote any messages sent to you privately by a mod. Additionally, you may not misleadingly modify a mod or other player’s message or post (paraphrasing is of course fine).
  8. Etiquette - Please bold your votes and use appropriate titles in private messages (eg. TFM62 Night Action)
  9. Flavour - This game will follow a flavoured storyline, however at no point should flavour be used to enforce an argument in the game.
  10. Fun - Have fun! This is only a game and should be treated as nothing more.

Setup
This is a Smalltown game - that is, all roles in the game are public knowledge, as well as who has each role. Alignments remain unknown and are distributed randomly. Roles will be chosen via a draft (see below). See SFM6 for a similar style of game.
Please note that because any role may end up with any alignment, this game is not guaranteed to be perfectly balanced.

Role-cards
Spoiler: Note that there are 14 roles and 13 players - one role will therefore not be used.

Tracker

You are a Tracker

Each night you can watch another player. Your many years of training in the intelligence services have given you the skills to work out who that player visits that night.
You will see every player that person visited, even if they visited multiple targets that night. Actions that fail (by either being role-blocked or a target being untargetable) will not be shown to you.


Soldier (1-shot Bulletproof)

You are a Soldier

Your experience in battle allows you to avoid the first attack against you. Subsequent attacks will most definitely succeed (unless you are saved by someone else).
You will not be informed when this occurs.


Communications Officer (Neighbourizer)

You are a Communications Officer

Each night you can open a communications link with another player. You and that player will be able to talk through that link at any time, provided you are both alive.
You can have a maximum of two com links open at one point in time. When a player you are linked to dies, the chat will close.


Inventor

You are an Inventor

Each night you may give another player one of your inventions for them to use on a subsequent night. Your target is notified of receiving an invention at the end of the night you give it.
You may only give each invention once, however you may give them in any order you choose.

Possible inventions:
- First Aid Kit - allows a player to heal another player one night instead of using their usual night action
- Gun - allows a player to shoot another player one night instead of using their usual night action
- Camouflage  - allows a player to role-block themselves and all visitors one night

You may not give the General an invention.
You may only give each player an item once.


Jailor (Alien)

You are a Jailor

Each night you may haul another player of your choosing off to jail, apart from the general. They will be roleblocked and all visitors to that player that night will also be roleblocked. You cannot jail the same person twice in a row.


Scientific Officer (RB/Redirection Immunity Granter)

You are a Scientific Officer

Each night you can give another player a gadget. They will be immune to role-blocks and redirections on the following night.
You cannot target the same player twice in a row.


Trainee (Backup)

You are a Trainee

At any point during the game, at night, you may choose to take the role of a player that has died.
You cannot take the role of the General. If you choose to take the role of the Inventor you will only be able to use the inventions he had remaining at the time of death.
No-one else is notified when you take a role. This is not a visiting action and therefore can't be role-blocked/redirected/tracked.


Strategist (Non-consecutive Reflexive Redirector)

You are a Strategist

At night you can can choose another player, using your strategic skills you will redirect all players targeting you to that player.
Making someone target themselves will fail, and you will be targeted as per usual.
This action is non-consecutive - that is, each time you use it you may not use it the next night.


Recruit (Weak Visitor)

You are a Recruit

Each night you may visit another player. If they are possessed or the deserter you will die. The only exception is if the deserter is using a silencer.
You will be told if your visit failed for any reason (i.e. if you were roleblocked).


General (Innocent Child)

You are the General

The army looks up to you and everyone trusts you. You are guaranteed to be innocent.


Pharmacist (Kill Delayer)

You are a Pharmacist

Every night you can give another player a healing drug, if they are attacked that night they will die instead at the end of the next day.
Neither you nor your target will be notified of a successful action. Your target will receive any night results as per usual.


Brigadier (Doublevoter)

You are a Brigadier

Your assertion over the army gives your vote double-weight. This extra vote does not count towards majority.
If there are 5 or less players, you lose this ability.


Transporter

You are a Transporter

Each night you may transport two players of your choosing. Actions targeting one player will instead target the other, and vice versa.
You may not transport yourself.


Intelligence Officer (Ascetic 1-shot Cop)

You are an Intelligence Officer

Once during the game, at night, you can target a player of your choice to determine whether they are innocent or not innocent. The possessed and the deserter (unless they are using a silencer) will appear as not innocent.
Your sneaky nature allows you to dodge and role-block anyone who targets you, except for killers.


9 players will receive the following at the bottom of their role-cards:
You are an innocent, unposessed soldier. Your goal is to destroy the link by killing all the possessed, and ensuring the deserter is disposed of.

3 players will receive the following at the bottom of their role-cards:
You are possessed by the Zombie Overlord. Your goal is to destroy all non-possessed.
You may meet with the other members of the possessed during the day and night. These players are [x] and [x].
Each night, one member of the possessed may kill a player instead of their usual night action. If you are the only member of your team left, you may kill a player in addition to your usual night action.


1 player will receive the following at the bottom of their role-card:
You are a deserter. Your goal is to kill everyone.
Each night you may kill a player in addition to your usual night action.
Before the first night, you may steal an item of your choice from the armoury, giving you a passive ability for the rest of the game:
  • Body armour: You are night immune.
  • Bayonet: Your night kill cannot be roleblocked or redirected.
  • Silencer: Your night kill cannot be seen by the Tracker. You will appear as an innocent to the Intelligence officer, and the recruit will survive should they visit you.


Action priority
1. RB/Redirection immune action (i.e. an action after being targeted by the Scientific Officer, or a kill made by the Deserter using a bayonet)
2. Role-blocks (i.e. being jailed, targeting a jailed player, targeting the intelligence officer, using or targeting a player using camouflage)
3. Transporter redirection
4. Strategist redirection
5. All other actions

Mechanics
  • 72D/24N phases
  • Lynches are plurality based, however if majority is reached the day will end. A NoLynch will occur in the event of a tie at day-end.
  • All chats will remain open day and night
  • No night feedback will be given unless your role-card specifically says you will receive feedback (i.e. the Tracker, Recruit, or Intelligence Officer).
  • Deserter wins in Deserter v 1 Possessed situation

Also, two questions:
-Can Trainee only become a General if they're already soldier-aligned?
-If a Transporter switches the Strategist with their target, does the Strategist cancel the trans or does that still go through?

No they can't (updated the Trainee role-card with that as well as what happens if the Trainee takes the Inventor role).
Transporter will come before the strategist's redirect, so the strategist will end up targeting themselves (which will of course do nothing). Action priority has been added to the OP under role-cards.

If you didn't get an alignment at the bottom of the role-card that was sent to you, PM me ASAP.

The research labs in the heart of the Salem Defence Centre (SDC) had been evacuated - only one scientist, the Scientific Officer remained. The soldiers left in the SDC were about to begin their first meeting, and the Scientific Officer was packing up his equipment so he could join them.
He had only just finished shutting down the last computer when the room went cold. The scientific officer was found several hours later - dead. The possessed were becoming more and more dangerous.
