#ThePitch: A differently balanced Mafia, for players that want to change it up a bit.
#UniqueFactionBonus: All Bratva roles will show up in the graveyard as Bratva. [ example: BuckeyeNation (Bratva) . Investigator results/etc will still show their roles though]
#LazyLore: The Russian Mafia, called the Bratva, heard that the Mafia was beginning to lose power overseas, so they decided to expand their operation into foreign territory. They began their quest for power in a little town called Salem. They sent some of their top men, under the command of a Brigadier, to enforce the will of the Bratva in this new land.
#AnythingElse?
- The Bratva would be an optional substitute for the Mafia in a normal game. Not trying to get rid of Mafia, just trying to shake up the repetitive nature of the game.
- The roles in play would be Brigadier, Assassin, and one or two Random Bratva roles, just like Mafia in a normal game.
- This is a complete pitch, but I'm always looking for ways to improve the Faction! I did as much brainstorming and balancing as I could within the Faction Development Thread, but there will always be ways to improve! Feedback is not only appreciated, but encouraged. Thank you, and enjoy!
Each Role In TL;DR Form
Spoiler: Brigadier - Godfather, but visits people to roleblock their visitors. Kills instead if Assassin cannot.
Assassin - Independent Mafioso that can stab or snipe people. Nerfed appropriately to not be as OP as it sounds.
Mystic - Escort that can visit each player only once, Bratva included. If they visit Bratva, they buff that role for the following night.
Ventriloquist - Spy that can control someone else's voice during day discussion 3x, but not on the stand. Town is alerted to Ventriloquist at dawn, but doesn't know who.
Enforcer - Make their text all garbly for a day. If they successfully beat the same target 3 nights in a row, the target dies.
Identity Thief - Janitor, but if they die, they appear to be the first role they cleaned, like an old Disguiser. Still 3x only, I'm not a monster.
Deceiver - Framer, but if their target get lynched, the role appears as Bratva and their Last Will appears empty
Spotter - Lookout, but you see any Investigative results that they were getting too, if any. Or can see who visits entire Bratva.
Informant - Functions the same as an Investigator, but you also see who your target visited, if anyone. You can obviously rule out Bratva results, lol.
I included Electrician (by Kirize12) and Parasite (by sh99er) to fill space in the Investigative results because I removed Vampire and Vampire Hunter (fck Vampires). I thought it would be neat to see different neutral roles in this mode, and I wanted to fill the space in the results, but I'm not married to any in particular. Those two are just my favorite concepts for NK and NE that I've seen. I did not make those, full credit goes to their aforementioned creators.
The Brigadier
Spoiler: Name: Brigadier
Alignment: Bratva Killing
Abilities: Visits players to scare away their visitors; kills on nights that Assassin cannot.
Attributes: Each night, you may select one player’s house to intimidate visitors away from.
Visiting players will not perform their roles, only getting the message “The Brigadier has blocked your access!”
If the Assassin is roleblocked or killed, you will instead kill your target.
Brigadier and Assassin cannot visit the same target. [only can if witched, and Brigadier blocks the Assassin's access in that case]
If the Assassin is killed, the Brigadier will gain their abilities, but not change role.
Special Attributes: Night immune
Will show up as Not Suspicious to sheriff.
Goal: Kill all who will not submit to the will of the Bratva.
Win Conditions: Wins with Bratva, Witch, and Survivor; Must kill Town/etc
Investigative Results:
Sheriff – Your target is not suspicious.
Investigator – Your target is not afraid to get their hands dirty. They must be a Bodyguard, Brigadier, or Arsonist!
Consigliere/Witch – Your target leads the Bratva with ruthless efficiency. They must be a Brigadier!
Skin/Avatar: This sort of thing, but slightly bulkier.
The Assassin
Spoiler: Name: Assassin
Alignment: Bratva Killing
Abilities: Carry out the will of the Bratva.
Attributes: The Assassin is skilled and can kill two different ways.
- Select a user on the left to stab them at night. [There are two rows of buttons, like a witch or transporter]
- A bodyguard can kill the Assassin and live [if they're protecting the target or self-vesting]
- A doctor will heal the target, but also see the Face of the Assassin! [their name]
- Select yourself on the right side instead to climb into a Sniper’s Perch (no kills that turn) [NOTE: if you are not on the perch, your name will be the only one with a right hand button. After you are on the perch, the rest of the names will fill in to select the following night]
- The following nights, select a target on the right to safely shoot all who visit the target (including Town Protective)
- You may select yourself from the perch to shoot all of your visitors!
- You may climb down from the perch to stab a target at any time, but must always forfeit a night to climb back up
Special Attributes: none
Goal: Kill all who will not submit to the will of the Bratva.
Win Conditions: Wins with Bratva, Witch, and Survivor; Must kill Town/etc
Investigative Results: Sheriff – Your target is a member of the Bratva!
Investigator - Your target owns weapons. They could be a Vigilante, Veteran, or Assassin!
Consigliere/Witch - Your target has many ways to kill. They must be an Assassin!
Additional Information: Jailor is immune to Sniper fire. <---- important. Can't just select a jailed Bratva member.
Skin/Avatar: In my mind, I picture something like this iteration of Slade Wilson. Maybe with an eye patch?
"This role is so OP!" - Please consider how you'd have to know exactly who was being visited each turn for the Sniper aspect to be considered OP. You burn an entire night getting up there, and if you come down, you have to burn another night going back up. You'd have to kill 2 people at least once and never miss for the killrate to really go up. The only thing it really hardcounters is metagaming "TP AND LO ON ME" type plays, as well as breaking protection loops.
"You can just kill everyone from the Sniper's perch!" - Untrue. A lot of roles don't visit. [Snipers CAN kill: Sheriff, Lookout, Investigator, Vigilante, Bodyguard, Doctor, Escort, Transporter, Witch.] [Snipers CANNOT kill: Spy, Jailor, Veteran, Mayor, Medium, Retributionist, Neutrals.] [Haven't made up my mind on NK roles yet in this regard.]
"Why does TP hardcounter Assassin on the ground?" - Because Assassin hardcounters TP from afar. It balances.
Gameplay for this role would actually be pretty smooth, and has a different strategy than the default Mafioso-type role. I feel that, if you think about its actual execution within a ToS game, it is balanced. Please feel free to tell me how to buff/nerf the role if you disagree, though.
The Mystic
Spoiler: Name: Mystic
Alignment: Bratva Support
Abilities: Enhance the abilities of your fellow Bratva members, or diminish the abilities of your foes.
Attributes: At night, you will be able to cast a spell on a player. If the player is not Bratva, the spell will roleblock them for the night. If the player is a fellow Bratva member, they will get a bonus that amplifies their abilities the following night, for that night only. You can only cast a spell on each player one time, regardless of faction. [The button for that player will literally disappear after it is used]
The role effects are as follows.
Brigadier- May have one immunity-piercing kill. [If Assassin is dead, Brigadier gets their power instead, because they function as an Assassin at that point]
Assassin- Uses a grenade launcher instead of a sniper rifle, killing the target along with all visitors! [Equivalent of a werewolf rampage]
Ventriloquist- Can use the puppet’s voice while somebody is on the stand (but not the puppet themselves) -OR- Can read their puppet’s will, but cannot modify it. [haven’t decided yet, leaning toward the latter]
Enforcer – Effects on target will last into the night cycle as well, and they will not be able to perform their role
Identity Thief - Target will not be able to speak in the afterlife
Deceiver- May frame two targets in one night.
Spotter – Will also see the roles of the visitors to their target
Informant – You can select two targets to investigate
If there are no kill capable Bratva roles left, you will become an Assassin.
Special Attributes: Unique, immune to roleblocks [as escorts/consorts are]
Goal: Kill all who will not submit to the will of the Bratva.
Win Conditions: Wins with Bratva, Witch, and Survivor; Must kill Town/etc
Investigative Results:
Sheriff – Your target is a member of the Bratva!
Investigator – Your target is skilled at disrupting others. They must be an Escort, Mystic, or Transporter!
Consigliere/Witch – Your target is carrying ancient runes. They must be a Mystic!
Skin/Avatar: Who could it be but Rasputin?
The Ventriloquist
Spoiler: Name: Ventriloquist
Alignment: Bratva Support
Abilities: You may visit someone at night to sedate them and mimic their voice the following day.
Attributes (broken up for easier digestion): Can read whispers like a Spy/Blackmailer.
During the night cycle, you select a player to steal their voice for the following day phase. This ability can only be used 3 times.
Immediately following the death announcements, the Town will be notified: A Ventriloquist has stolen somebody's voice!
Use the Day Icon to switch between your voice and the voice of your Puppet.
Your Puppet cannot speak or vote for themselves during the day phase.
You cannot force your Puppet to vote, nor can you read their will. You can only use their voice.
The puppet's lost vote will not count toward the daily total [like they're not even there].
While somebody is on the stand, the Ventriloquist cannot use the Puppet's voice.
Your Puppet will only wake up if they are voted onto the stand, at which point you lose control of their voice and they regain their ability to speak/vote for the rest of the day phase.
If there are no kill capable Bratva roles left, you will become an Assassin.
Goal: Kill everyone that will not submit to the Bratva.
Win Conditions: Wins with Bratva, Witch, and Survivor; Must kill Town/etc
Special Attributes: Unique
Investigative Results: Investigator: Your target knows your darkest secrets. They must be a Spy, Ventriloquist, or Jailor.
Consigliere/witch: Your target is a skilled voice mimic. They must be a Ventriloquist.
Sheriff: Your target is a member of the Bratva!
Additional Information (comments): You are not immune to roleblocks.
Skin/Avatar: Some sort of evil-looking ventriloquist would do it. Puppet mandatory.
The Enforcer
Spoiler: Name: Enforcer
Alignment: Bratva Support
Abilities: Beat people until they are heavily concussed every night.
Attributes: Each night, you may select one target to beat mercilessly.
The target will receive the notifications “An Enforcer of the Bratva visited you last night!” and “You have a severe concussion!” [IMPORTANT: a Bodyguard will obviously fight off the Enforcer, and a Doctor will heal the player from the effects of a concussion]
During the following day cycle, the target will only see garbled text in their day chat box. [Only names at the start of each chat and in in-game actions will be legible; everything else will be scrambled.]
The target’s chat history will be cleared of everything before the start of that day, and they cannot access their will.
Anything that the target attempts to type will appear normal to them, but garbled to the rest of the Town.
The effects of the Enforcer will be reversed at the beginning of the night cycle, including restoring the chat history prior to that day and will access. [The day that was garbled will remain garbled in chat history, just everything prior to that day will be restored]
If you successfully visit the same player three nights in a row [concussion each time], they will be killed.
If there are no kill capable Bratva roles left, you will become an Assassin.
Special Attributes: not immune to themselves, if witched or transported into it
Goal: Kill everyone that will not submit to the Bratva.
Win Conditions: Wins with Bratva, Witch, and Survivor; Must kill Town/etc
Investigative Results: Sheriff- Your target is a member of the Bratva!
Investigator- Your target is covered in blood. They must be a Doctor, Enforcer, or Serial Killer!
Consigliere/Witch- Your target beats people mercilessly. They must be an enforcer!

The Identity Thief
Spoiler: Name: Identity Thief
Alignment: Bratva Deception
Abilities: Choose a person to clean at night and claim their role the following day.
Attributes: If your target dies their role and last will won't be revealed to the Town.
Only you will see the cleaned targets role and last will.
If lynched, your role in the Graveyard will appear as the first cleaned person’s role. [Your own Will still appears]
If killed during night phase, your role will show up as Bratva.
You may only perform 3 cleanings.
If there are no kill capable Bratva roles left, you will become an Assassin.
Special Attributes: none
Goal: Kill all who will not submit to the will of the Bratva.
Win Conditions: Wins with Bratva, Witch, and Survivor; Must kill Town/etc
Investigative Results: Sheriff- Your target is a member of the Bratva!
Investigator – Your target works with dead bodies. They must be a Medium, Identity Thief, or Electrician.
Consigliere/Witch – Your target steals their victim’s role. They must be an Identity Thief!
Skin/Avatar: In my mind, I picture an Observer from Fringe. Taller, skinny, bald, suit with hat.
The Deceiver
Spoiler: Name: Deceiver
Alignment: Bratva Deception
Abilities: Choose someone to frame at night.
Attributes:
If your target is investigated they will appear to be a member of the Bratva.
If their target is lynched the following day, the target's role will appear as Bratva in the graveyard and their Last Will will be empty.
If there are no kill capable Bratva roles left, you will become an Assassin.
Special Attributes: none
Goal: Kill all who will not submit to the will of the Bratva.
Win Conditions: Wins with Bratva, Witch, and Survivor; Must kill Town/etc
Investigative Results:
Sheriff – Your target is a member of the Bratva!
Investigator - Your target may not be what they seem. They could be a Deciever, Vampire, or Jester.
Consigliere/witch - Your target sets others up to take the fall. They must be a Deciever!
Skin/Avatar: The classic turtleneck look would do. More of a military hairstyle than this model, though. Black leather gloves on, too.
The Spotter
Spoiler: Name: Spotter
Alignment: Bratva Support
Abilities: Watch one person at night to see who visits them, or see who visits any member of the Bratva.
Attributes: Select one name to see which players visit them at night [Same as a Lookout], as well as any investigative results that they find. [you will not know who got what result]
Alternatively, select nobody to see who visits any member of the Bratva. [You will not know who was visited]
If there are no kill capable Bratva roles left, you will become an Assassin.
Special Attributes: none
Goal: Kill all who will not submit to the will of the Bratva.
Win Conditions: Wins with Bratva, Witch, and Survivor; Must kill Town/etc
Investigative Results: Sheriff – Your target is a member of the Bratva!
Investigator – Your target sticks to the shadows. They must be a Lookout, Spotter, or Amnesiac.
Consigliere/Witch – Your target is holding a spyglass. They must be a Spotter!
Additional Information: Just like any lookout would, if you select someone that was jailed, you will see the Jailor’s name.
Skin/Avatar: A Ghillie Suit kind of thing, maybe with binoculars draped around their neck?
The Informant

Alignment: Bratva Support
Abilities: Investigate one person each night for a clue to their role.
Attributes: Each night, you may select one player to Investigate.
You will get the same results as an Investigator.
You will also see who your target visited that night, if anyone.
If there are no kill capable Bratva roles left, you will become an Assassin.
Special Attributes: none
Goal: Kill all who will not submit to the will of the Bratva.
Win Conditions: Wins with Bratva, Witch, and Survivor; Must kill Town/etc
Investigative Results: Sheriff – Your target is a member of the Bratva!
Investigator – Your target has sensitive information to reveal. They must be an Investigator, Informant, or Mayor.
Consigliere/Witch – Your target gathers information for the Bratva. They must be an Informant.
Skin/Avatar: I picture someone like John Constantine. Detective jacket, tie underneath.

Spoiler: Tried to plug-and-play Bratva roles to their closest Mafia counterparts as much as I could so the game isn't radically altered. The only major changes were removing Vampires and Vampire Hunter in favor of adding Electrician and Parasite, as mentioned earlier. I also put Electrician in Retributionist's spot and lumped Retributionist with Survivor and Witch. This was to give Electrician a scum claim to fall back on. Anywho, on with the invest results!
