Attention! This role is currently in the poll for the TG Roles of January 2017! If you like this role enough for it to be added to the Testing Grounds, click the link to the poll below and cast your vote! Nevermind it's been over a year

Role Name: Stalker

Role Alignment: Neutral Chaos [Goal doesn't quite fit for Neutral Killing, and Neutral Evil won't work because it's possible to win with a town member. Because the target could be of any faction, I would've made it Neutral Benign, but because the role can kill, that won't work, either.]

Attributes: Spoiler: (Unique role) Will do anything, even kill, for the one you're obsessed with. You obsess over _____. (The obsession could be any role except Jester, Executioner, Amnesiac, any Town Killing role, or any Town Protective** role, but the Stalker will have no idea what it is.)[Updated limited role list to balance the chances of it siding with either town or non-town. If I hadn't, as said by Kirize (A TG staff member) it would be too town-sided. **Changed from Town Support to Town Protective to account for bodyguard getting killed from using their ability correctly.]

Abilities: Spoiler:
    Night immune.
Can kill one person each night (doesn't necessarily have to).
If your obsession visits you at night, you will be role blocked; if an escort/consort who is not your obsession visits you, they will be killed.
If you target your obsession at night, you will stalk them, roleblocking them and killing whoever visits them, piercing night immunity. (Doing so reveals the identity of the Stalker to their obsession.) (One use only.)[Would be too weak without it, but too strong with unlimited uses. I was originally considering not letting it pierce night immunity, but because it's one use only, I figured I'd let it slide.]

Goal: Eliminate the competition. (Be the last one standing, with the person you're obsessed with.)

Wins with: Spoiler:
______ (Your obsession) [Side note: if you and your obsession are the last ones standing, your obsession's faction will win with them.]
Neutral Evil roles (As long as the obsession isn't town; otherwise, you must kill Neutral Evil roles as well.)
    Neutral Benign roles
[To clarify: You MUST KILL everyone except for your obsession, Neutral Evil (Unless the obsession is a townie), and Neutral Benign roles. No exceptions.]

Special Attributes:
Spoiler:
You will automatically vote innocent if your obsession is voted up to the stands. [Removed because it makes the Stalker too easy to detect.]
If your obsession dies (in which case, you've already lost) , you will go on a rampage and kill:
-1/3 of the people who voted guilty on them (minimum of 1), if they were hung.
-The person(s) who killed them, if they died at night.
    -Yourself, no matter what.
[Allowing a Stalker to stick around after their obsession has died would require a role change, which is frowned upon]

Investigative Results:
Spoiler: [list]Investigator: Your target is covered in blood. They could be the Doctor, Disguiser, Serial Killer, or Stalker. Might change based on changing investigator results.
Consigliere: Your target is obsessed with someone. They must be a Stalker!
Sheriff: Your target is not suspicious.

Notifications: [spoiler]You have been eliminated by a Stalker! (Anyone)
You were attacked by the Stalker you visited! (Consort/escort)
______ died last night. They were eliminated by a Stalker. (Anyone)
[Your obsession] visited you! You were roleblocked. (Stalker)
Someone tried to roleblock you, but you killed them instead! (Stalker)
You are being followed by a Stalker! (Obsession, beginning of night 1)
You caught ______ (The Stalker) stalking you last night! (Obsession, when Stalker uses stalking ability)
You were attacked, but your Stalker saved you! (The obsession, if the Stalker kills an attacker.)

Achievements:
Spoiler: "Burning Love"- Stalk your obsession the night they ignite their targets. [Assumes your obsession is the arsonist.]
"How dare you"- kill an escort/consort while stalking your obsession.
"Woof"- kill a rampaging werewolf while stalking your obsession.
"Twilight cringe"- win with your obsession being a vampire.
"Too little, too late"- Kill someone the same night they kill your obsession.
"Stabby stab"- get attacked by a serial killer the same night you attack them.
"Nope, no stalker here."-Get investigated by a sheriff.
"Oops"-Kill your obsession on accident. [Requires transporter]
"I'm okay"-Get attacked by your obsession and live.
"There, there."-Visit your target, who is a Werewolf.
"Instincts"-Stalk your obsession on a night when they are visited by two or more killing roles.
"I missed you"- stalk your obsession the same night they visit you.

Despite seeming devastatingly overpowered, the Stalker role would actually be difficult to win, in that if the obsession dies, the Stalker loses, and if they seem too overprotective of a particular individual, they will be discovered, and lynched.

Edit: It would be about as difficult to win as a Stalker as it is to win as an Arsonist, currently.
Arsonist has been updated since this was posted.

FAQ:

Q: What happens if a Stalker stalks a Werewolf when the Werewolf chooses to stay at home on a full moon?
A: Spoiler: The Stalker roleblocks them, keeping the werewolf from attacking. But because the Stalker is stalking, any visitors to the Werewolf die anyway, but are said to have been killed by a Stalker instead. Apparently everything I say is wrong so nevermind.

Q: What happens if the obsession is an Escort or Consort, and visits the Stalker?
A: Spoiler: The Stalker is roleblocked.

Q: What happens if the Stalker is jailed on the night of her rampage?
A: Spoiler: She will kill the Jailor and anyone who visits her or the Jailor.

Q: What happens if Executioner and Stalker have the same target, and the Executioner gets their target lynched successfully?
A: Spoiler: The Stalker will still rampage, piercing night immunity (like a Werewolf) but the Executioner will still technically have won.

Q: What happens if the Stalker stalks their obsession the same night their obsession visits them?
A: Spoiler: They both end up roleblocked. The Stalker's attacks won't go through, but the obsession will not be able to use their ability either.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask in the comments. I'll answer them here.

Lore:
Spoiler: When she was young, the other children wouldn't play with her, because they thought she was strange. She was shy, smart, and well-mannered, and yet she was often picked on for being different. Adults would ignore her, and would often blame her when things went wrong. Having experienced this her whole life, she had become used to it, as if it were simply a part of life. Eventually, she was under the mindset that no human lives mattered, that they were all evil. But one day, she met somebody nice. No one had ever spoken kind words to her, or shown any signs of caring, until she met him. He complimented her appearance, gave her some flowers, and told her to ignore what people said about her. Little did he know, she had already lost her mind years before. She had become attached to him. Possessive of him. She refused to allow him to love anyone else, which led her to believe that she could only live happily with him when all competition was out of the picture. A few weeks later, as he was walking home from the market, he noticed someone following him in the shadows. He rushed home, and locked the door behind him, thinking them to be a serial killer. Ever since that day, every time he lays fond eyes on anyone, they're found dead the next morning. And although he doesn't know it, the Stalker is behind it all.

I put everything in spoilers so it's easier to scroll through the post and find whatever details you're looking for. It also makes it nice and neat ^-^

Cool but "If your loved one dies, you will go on a rampage and kill: Everyone who voted guilty on them, if they were hung." is super over powered.

Ok then, maybe just one person who voted guilty on them, of her choice.

This seems like a great idea, but I would think this would be hard to implement by the devs.

Well, it depends on how they implement it. In theory, it'd be similar to lots of other roles. They'd be told who to protect, just as an executioner would be told who to hang. When their loved one dies, they would die the next night, like a Vigilante would if they had shot a townie, but bring someone with them, like a Jester. They would kill someone every night, like a Serial Killer, and if their loved one dies because of multiple guilty votes or because of multiple killers at night, they would go on a rampage, like a werewolf. A role like this could really put a spin on the game.

All NK's need to have the same goal: kill everyone other than them, survivors, and witches. This would make the alignment swingy.
Factional balance - understanding that whisper games are bad because they cause Town to win a disproportionate amount

Strategical balance - understanding that whisper games are bad because there's no reason to use any other strategy

Structural balance - understanding that disabling the Mayor's whispers, despite it fixing whisper games, means that a player can't use a core mechanic of the game and is still bad

This matters - educate yourself.

What if the role was considered Neutral Chaos then, like the vampires?

I updated the description, so the role won't be too overpowered. Feel free to take a look.
If anyone else wants to come up with theoretical situations, feel free to post them in here :P
Kirize12 wrote:Neutral Chaos is a bad category.

What category do you suggest, then? You wouldn't turn down a good role just because you couldn't decide where it belongs, would you? I mean, isn't the whole point of the Neutral Chaos group to find a place for Neutral roles that don't quite fit in anywhere else?

Love this role idea, even if the kill all guilty can seem op, I think its a great idea, but make it so u can be healed / vested from it. then I say its fair.
Check out my ideas:
My Guardian Faction
My Elemental Faction
My Spirit Faction
My Demon Faction

After agreeing that as Godfather id have my mafioso make food for me, here was a funny response.

You're not supposed to make lover roles/roles which protect another target from being lynched.

I dont like this part. Maybe you should do 1/3 or 2/3 of the people who voted guilty

But besides that

I changed that detail, so the rampage is limited to three guilty voters maximum. It seems reasonable.
