I played rank for some time a year ago. Now I have fewer brain cells.

So don't play rank. People just randomly lynch on day 2. It's crazy and doot doot.

I stand by this. All/Any definitely requires skills like scumreading and reading people, instead of just looking at a rolelist and saying "Nope, can't be, role is taken". *shrug*

I have 775 trial ratings, therefore I'm an expert at ToS. I'd say don't play ranked - ranked is just luck with no skill involved. Play ALL ANY MODE; this is where real skill is involved. If you don't believe me, then ask All the high ranked jurors. They have more trial ratings than me and they said ALL ANY mode takes real skillz!!!

I have a 16623 trial rating, therefore this proves I really have no life and am dedicated to the game. I'd say play ranked. - rank when playing NB/mafia/NE require some skill. You can play All Any mode if you like a less competitive mode. This involves luck and skill. I am a top ten juror and I prefer rank.

IMHO I love ranked, it's super hard to climb because I can't just drag my way out of silver, but ranked does what a ranked mode should do, it creates an extremely toxic atmosphere.

If you want my "why", here you go: All Any is extremely situational. Some games, you'll be a mafioso+framer against an SK/two jesters/jailor, ret, med, escort, lookout, veteran, etc. Some games, you'll be gf/hypno/consig/bmer in a game where there's like four sheriffs and four survivors and it's all just a shitshow for non-mafia. Maybe every now and then, there will an alright-ish rolelist, but you're not going to survive a game of something as chaotic as all any just by scumreading people, especially when everyone is quiet af and everyone's wills look like this: "n1-2 n2-6", which accurately describes like 99% of my classic all any games. Coven all any is better though in terms of interacting with people, but the increased number of roles, especially underpowered ones (solo medusa in an all any game is straight-up not winnable) makes the rolelist possibilities even worse. All Any is a chaotic gamemode. It's not really designed to be balanced, it's designed to be frantic.

I used to think the same until Flavourable sheeped me into believing ALL ANY mode is best game mode. I used to play ranked games as listed in my stats. But now I'm following whatever Flavourable says to climb the trials system ladder; this is the way to climb the trials system ladder! I hope I become a ToS moderator in 20 years. Wish me luck!

Either way, I just wanted to say I absolutely agree with you. It's my opinion, not a fact. Everyone has their own preference and that's why the game has the different game modes. I'd say: Try all of them and see which one sticks.

I'm currently posting from the gym because I'm still forcing myself to grind at 10:00am even with the brain fog that comes from a fun late night of elevating my dopamine levels. That's just the price you have to pay for having sauce. Anyways, let's get back on topic. The thing about assessing which game mode takes the most skill is you have to consider the skill level of the players who play each respective format in addition to the role list. In a vacuum, all any might be the most skillfull game mode, but the fact that the people who play ranked are collectively much higher in overall skill level than all any players means it is by far the most competitive game mode. In addition, the fact that ranked presents itself as the game mode for high level, competitive play encourages people to adopt a more competitive mindset whereas many all any players are more casual fans of ToS. ToS is a 100% skill based game so you should stop making excuses for losing in ranked and just get good. See me master elo.

To be honest, before I specialized in AA or even played much custom I took a look at ranked. Got all the games and in the end, I found it boring and repetitive. There was alot of VFR, people leaving, getting lynched for everyonesomehow not realising you stated your role and will, and people screaming MED CURSE MED CURSE because a medium died D4. I hated it.

I do, that's really the only thing I play. The "Releaxed" nature of casual players attracts me... if it only was the case. Classic, or even Ranked Practice is still chaos, and people don't even know how to play.(I don't blame them.)
And I play ranked because people actually know how to play, and in my opinion is the only way I'd really play it. I haven't had any experience with the community being toxic/tryhard.
