Hey Townies,

So! To introduce myself, I'm the artist that's been spearheading most of the Unity art rework and the latest skins (pretty much around the time of Coven's inception).

Recently we’ve been looking into how much work would be needed to update some of our older skins to a higher graphic fidelity and came up with this test!

Looking for feedback/general opinions on this upgrade and whether it’s something the public feels is worth pursuing moving forward.

I’d love to see those skins in the game to replace some of the older ones! It allows for easier facial animations and views, and seems to fit with the way Unity is running for you guys and not a “classic” look. All up for it!

So you are the one responsible for the happy little frog. I like you. The most recent skins have been looking really nice. Especially digging the Poisoner and the Mafioso skin. I'm up for seeing the game get a fresh look!

I feel like this is a happy medium between the very detailed appearance of the character in the sidebar of the main menu, and the very cartoonish appearance of the way the skin currently looks. I like it.

I wonder how this style would look with the more complicated skins (War Torn Santa, Uriel, Beelzebub, etc.).

TBH though...I kinda hope they keep the older ones around and just release the new ones as new skins. I have a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in those, awkward as they are. I would hate to see them gone forever.

Maybe they could leave them on old players that already have them, and not give them to new accounts? Kinda like what they did with the youtuber beta skins?

no support on this idea. I thoroughly dislike the idea of content (even cosmetic content like skins) that is only available to certain people. I would hate it if the people who had the game before the Unity port had access to the old skins, but everyone else was permanently locked out of such content for the sole reason of joining the game too late.

That's what we did with the YouTuber skins.

Though I agree; we shouldn't lock skins out anymore.

However, keep in mind blueheatwave is doing the art. Such discussions about the future of skin availability isn't within his scope.

I know that’s what you did with the YouTuber skins, and I never liked it. Guess you gotta give Kickstarter backers some kind of reward, though.

I know this isn’t blueheatwave’s area of expertise, but since someone decided to talk about it, I wanted to put in my two cents before the topic faded.

Thank you all so much for such a positive response!!! It really makes my day that all this effort put in was worth it.

As much as I’d love to have all the skins be consistent and upgraded, the old skins will always have a spot in my heart. This sounds like a lot of effort, but maybe there could be an option to toggle between new and classic skins? (would only show for the person who toggles the option instead of keeping it inconsistent)

I second this notion. These new skins look gross imo, no hate to the guy who has been doing unity but the entirety of the artwork looks like China made a knockoff town of salem. Why fix (and break) what is not broken?

The devs could fix ranked but na we have these skins forced down our throats, please make a classic skin options.

huh? his art is top notch and i like the new skins. i just want to have classic skins as well

I agree with you some ideas could be a Juggernaut skin we don't have one of those.We could update a lot of them but i don't want to get rid of any of them

So...has a decision been made about officially refurbishing the character skins yet?

And will they be released along with the Unity port update?

The thing is, I've just realized that you'd probably have to refurbish each and every single asset including pets and optionally houses and lobby icons too as it'd match your new character theme in game so i'm assuming it'd take long to do.

If only I can spend my town points and merit points on that new Mafioso skin which was shared on a reburbished UI spoiler. My patience is slowly crumbling away...

I dig the look of it and I like the idea of remastered skins, but the option of being able to opt out sounds like a decent plan. I have my specific go to, so it probably won't affect me but I think all the oldschool mofos that wanna keep to the old ways are gonna be way more on board if the skins are an optional thing. BUT if you wanna remaster the Incognito skin and it looks fuckin mint, I won't say no
You do good work and I love you for it, just please make it optional so I don;t have to play with exclusively people who have been here after season 3. PLEASE

it’d be cool if the skins had animations where they gesticulated whenever the user sent a chat message. that way, there’d be a tie between the user and their person. i usually dont even notice the people standing in the middle until the last 4 or 3, but it could be cool to notice a person whos been chatting a lot
