I played a witch game a few nights ago and I managed to find a serial killer early, which is my favorite evil to work with as witch. Serial killer is also my favorite role to play, as I’ve mentioned before. A few weeks ago, I got three serial killer wins and a werewolf win, and in all four games, I screwed over a survivor to get my win, lynching three and killing one at night. The three SK games were solo SK wins and the werewolf game was a werewolf/jester win with a jester who randomly accused me of being SK D2. I’m still not sure whether I want to write about those towns, though I did find it odd that I got four different survivors killed as part of my strategy to survive. Usually I’m friendly to survivors, but sometimes an evil can use suspicion of a survivor to their advantage and exploit the survivor as a diversion, and also a voting tool. In this witch game, there weren’t any survivors, and it was a rather typical witch game overall, but I figured I’d tell the short story here for those of you interested in witch games like this.
D1/N1: I’m Mazelzog the witch. Someone claims retributionist and calls for TP/LO. I control a silent Beelzebub into the retri claim. The Beelzebub turns out to be serial killer. I am also roleblocked.
D2/N2: A mafioso is killed by mafia, an apparent transport or witch. No one else is dead, and the retributionist claim also claims attacked in jail, implying there’s a jailor as well. This is not an ideal start for me, but at least I found a serial killer. I decide not to witch them again. Instead, I whisper them later and tell them I’m witch and I know they’re serial killer, and that they’re in my will. They reply ok back and no one is lynched. I control someone silent into the retri claim. My target is a werewolf.
D3/N3: A transporter is stabbed by a serial killer and the retributionist is mauled by a werewolf. Someone dramatically bemoans the death of the retributionist, and, to my absolute surprise, the werewolf then comes out and says they’re sorry they mauled them, they didn’t mean to. So this werewolf apparently decided to queue for an All Any game, and then, when a witch makes them kill a retributionist N2, they decide they’re going to claim werewolf in a jailor game and also imply they were witched. I have no idea why this person even took the time to join this game, but this was what they did. As there were no mafia kills N2, I feared there may be no mafia left, and I may only have the likes of the serial killer and the werewolf to work with, so I did consider calling this person a jester, at least to force the jailor to waste an execution on them. But I instead decide to stay quiet and they’re pushed and lynched by a narrow margin. I witch a vampire hunter tonight.
D4/N4: The jailor is stabbed by a serial killer. A doctor claim comes out and says they tried to heal the jailed person, and that this jailed person is probably SK. The jailed person claims escort and posts a will, then asks me and John Willard to confirm. I say nothing, as I suspect this is escort and I’d rather they be lynched. They go to trial and desperately call for us to confirm them, but neither of us say anything and they get lynched. I control John Willard, and it shows them as transporter, but I know this could be because they were transported with a transporter.
D5/N5: The doctor is stabbed by a serial killer and an arsonist committed suicided. No one says anything for the entire discussion phase. During this time, I grow paranoid that I will be voted against, as I now appear evil for not confirming the escort claim and also voting guilty on them. Their will confirms I’m not serial killer, but I also haven’t claimed anything. I consider claiming witch and saying I know who the serial killer is, and that I also know there are vampires here and I know a vampire hunter’s identity, but I am concerned this could be one of those towns that pushes a witch claim just for claiming evil even though there are more dangerous threats the witch could expose. I gamble on being able to be voted down at trial by outing the serial killer as a last ditch effort, and I say nothing. Then, one of the three non-claimers randomly votes against me, and tells them to get me. I immediately suspect this person is a vampire who is afraid of me, but I vote against the vampire hunter to create a split. The vampire hunter votes against me too, and the serial killer votes against the vampire hunter. Thankfully, the other two people don’t vote anyone. Then, about halfway through voting:
Mazelzog: I’m witch, you silly gooses
Mazelzog: I know who the SK is
I control the non-claimer who voted against me, and they turn out to be vampire. I had controlled them into another non-claimer, so I suspect this non-claimer is a vampire as well.
D6/N6: The vampire who voted against me is dead. I whisper to the two non-claimers and claim witch to them, and let them know I know who the serial killer is. One claims medium and the person I witched the vampire to claims doctor. The doctor claim then claims vampire to me. I lie to them both and tell them the VH is the SK, and we vote them up. They claim VH on the stand, but I say they’re SK and that the real SK is VH. The VH gets guiltied and I ask the SK to kill the vampire tonight, while I ask the vampire to bite John Willard on the promise that I’ll help them. I’m just trying to get them to not bite me. I have no intention to side with the vampires. I control Willard in case they’re arso or something, but they’re just a medium.
D7: The vampire is dead and Willard was converted, and the serial killer and I lynch them.
I enjoy NK/NE wins the most. Not even solo NK wins, but NK/NE wins specifically, especially games in which a neutral killer manages to survive using the aid of a neutral evil. In this town, the only mafia member died N1, and I was left with the silent serial killer, the self-incriminating werewolf, and the catatonic arsonist, as well as a few vampires. This is basically how you play with an SK in this spot. You don’t need to control them. In fact, if you control them because you’re afraid they might attack you, this can actually make you more likely to be attacked by an uncontrolled werewolf, arsonist, vampire, or other killer, and you gain less information on others, information that you can use to your advantage. When this serial killer didn’t claim witched, I knew they were probably smart, and I let them know I’m the witch who visited them so they don’t visit me. They never visited me, and we worked well together without whispering too much.
