Evils vs Veteran D1

Postby kosmo16 » Wed Mar 04, 2020 5:05 am

I saw a lot of topics about Veteran's baits. It may work against new or bad players, but why would you do that against good players in high elo? They won't visit you. Also because of this trend people think that speaking D1 make them safe.

Two games which happened to me:

1. I rolled Witch. Spotted Veteran D1, sent someone to the Veteran. The guy was Sheriff and because of my control, the Veteran was executed. Why? He and a guy who was in Sheriff's will both claimed Veteran.

2. I rolled SK. Spotted Veteran D1 and a guy who wanted to look like he is vet, but was basically too obvious. I sniped the guy, he was ret. Later guy said I wanted to commit suicide (:

The generally regarded as better strategy is not to alert N1, as the chances of you dying are the lowest there. Also, afaik, you can also talk in high elo and you won't get visited most of the time, other than by suicidal evils, which shouldn't (I believe) be common in high elo.

Also most baits are rather obvious and it'd be better to stay hidden and potentially lure an evil or two to visit you without looking too obvious (e.g. leading the town, coordinating TPs). It's awesome when you find the Mafioso and Janitor both killed by you.

Yep pretty much what everyone in Town of Salem can agree on, "Don't alert Night 1."

This is the problem. Not everyone. I would say minority agrees on that.

mathematically you shouldn't alert night 1 because you are least likely to die n1

you should expect not to get visited n1 if you talked d1 because regardless of how bad you tried to bait it, evil roles should be seeing you as an unnecessary risk

those two things are fact

i'd say the majority of the forums understands that, i'd say the majority of higher elo understands that; but i'd say the majority of the playerbase is fucking clueless

Alerting Night 1 as Veteran I never do it.

Because when I do.. No one visits

But when I don't I get shot Night 1.

I love my life.

i don't understand how veterans think they will be able to bait evils d1 tbh.
I agree with what you were saying earlier at most you will trick a few town into visiting you, but typically evils feel no risk in doing so since it being n1 and all.

I think ppl hated me.

Well what I'm trying to say is that statistically, you have no reason to alert night 1 as you have a higher chance of being visited by townies than you are by mafia, along with the fact that there's a 1/15 chance for every killing role in the game (Example: Mafia, SK, and Vampires means you have more or less a 3/15 --> 1/5 chance of being Killed/Converted. And say there are 5 visiting town roles in the game, that's a more or less a 5/15 --> 1/3 chance you'll be visited by a Townie). It really isn't worth alerting Night 1 unless you're in a all any game or a game with a large amount of confirmed Mafia/Coven, And Neutral Killers.

I almost never alert N1

However, D1 someone had called for TP/LO on them and my IGN was Apple, so I hopped on the chance of a vet bait saying "An apple a day keeps the Doctor away" hoping evils would think I'm soft claiming doc.. It worked haha I killed the SK, the mafioso and the Janitor.

It's probably split 50/50 of who alerts N1 and who doesn't.

I visit vet baits as sheriff and investigator every time because more likely than not it is an evil trying to drive away visitors. I also push on every vet bait that claims vig later in the game because that's normally a mafioso who didn't have the balls to claim a unique role.
