Role you used to like but not anymore

I play ranked a lot. Some time ago I noticed that I really stopped enjoying playing as the Jailor. When I see I rolled this role I am like "Not again :c Why me?!". I think it is because of how responsible is this role. Jailor can single-handedly lose or win the game.

People also complain how I play the role. I have a tendency to not execute people when Town very likely maintain majority next day and instantly execute people when it doesn't.

Do you guys have a role you really hate?

I didn't mind playing Town Protective but now I hate it because I have to rely on my other teammates to kill evils and gain info, half the time they are useless.

Nah, you must've just been some good luck. You can check your odds of getting a role by seeing how many lots you have (visible on the role wheel screen). The only factor that will affect them is whether you or any of the other players have a Jailor scroll equipped.

Yeah, I should have clarified that percentage represents your chance of getting the role in comparison to other players. In the case of Jailor in Classic, this percentage is accurate., as it's a guaranteed role. In other modes the percentage doesn't represent your odds of getting the role overall, but in comparison to other players if the role spawns. The odds aren't "completely wrong", but they're misleading. If the role isn't present in the game, then the odds aren't used.

Interestingly, the advertised effect of scrolls is also misleading, but in a different way. They advertise "x10 odds" of getting that role if it is present, however they actually give an extra 90 lots on top of your starting 10 (10x10 = 100). However, this also increases the total lots in the draw by 90. So for example, if you are the only player in a Classic game with a Jailor scroll equipped, this will increase your lots from 10/150 to 100/240. This would increase your chances from 6.67% to 41.67%, which equates to actually multiplying your chance of rolling Jailor by slightly over 6x, rather than 10x. This effect is diminished further if there are multiple players in the game using that type of scroll.

Ehh. If a casino were to put up a sign at a game saying "you have a 7% chance of winning" and someone can prove mathematically that the odds are closer to half that, that casino wouldn't be able to brush it off as just "misleading". Of course, this isn't a casino, and so not as important, but players shouldn't be lied to.

I actually thought this at first too, but it's even worse. I made a post a month ago on this ( viewtopic.php?f=14&t=105943 ) showing the average increase to be 4x, not even the expected 6x. In that post I also assume an all-any rolelist, but technically the theory holds for any rolelist, known or unknown.

Simulating role selection also gives similar results.

I think all roles are good to play except for Forger, Framer, and Disguiser. If I could opt to never get them again I would.

Oh, I remember old Disguiser. I really did few outstanding plays with these 2.

Well if you are playing against weak players framing player at position 1 (n1) almost always works.

Can work better if you claim TI and ask a Sheriff/Investigator who they’ll check tonight to “avoid clashing info”, haven’t had anyone call me out for doing it thus far and works effectively as long as there are no spies

Now I realize with Ranked, Mafioso is just a skillful role when your job is to not die.

Used to like Ret when i started, but now i hate it when i get them in my games. Literally kills any medium/jan games (yes i know a medium can confirm roles, but it seems more sus in a jan games than a ret reviving someone) plays by mafia

I used to love to play as disguiser because I'd be able to manipulate the town with my flip, and my teammates were able to carry the win the rest of the way.

Now disguiser doesn't even work half the time for reasons I don't know. I use my disguise at night, but then when I'm lynched the next day, I flip disguiser.

making fun town roles worse does not make being mafia any more enjoyable, and spy was not the root of mafia's problems
