The New Chat Thing

With the newest patch, with the chat log open, new chat messages appear brighter than old ones (at first I thought this was a bug, but it's not; see viewtopic.php?f=30&t=107108 ).
The bug I'm reporting here is that since certain messages don't appear in the overlay, but they do in the main chat, the overlay isn't properly serving its purpose as an overlay, leading to confusion.

For example, with the chat log open, after new messages come in, if I close (and save) my will, the "Your last will has been saved" message does appear in the normal chat (as it should), but doesn't in the log's chat.
