I opened Steam, it downloaded the new patch update 3.1.7 and the game doesn't start. I get this error message.

What would this message say when translated to english? Its hard to run a translator over an image.

Edit: It seems that uninstalling and reinstalling should fix this, please try that.

THE UNINSTALL REINSTALL WORKED.


Same issue here. I'm on MAC. Followed suggestions still doesn't start.

I too am having the same problem (also on Mac). I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and it still produced the same error message.

I haven't tried to play on my computer in a while. The first time I tried since the update was last night, and it didn't work then either. I just decided to hold off on the uninstall/reinstall until today because it was late.

The console on Mac should have some (error) messages logged, which might help to find the issue.

After a quick lookup for the 111errorcode it appeared to be something different, as that one would come up when burning/copying CDs.
Have you checked your Steamfiles, if the exe-file is there and what happens when you run it on its own?

There is no such thing as an .exe on mac, but trying to run the TownofSalem.app file through the local files in the game just lead to this error message popping up by itself: Spoiler: Image Notably, the Steam-based error message with the error code did not appear.

Could you just to be sure, perform another uninstall, make sure that the files are gone and the retry installing it for another check?

Not a Mac user either, but it seems to be a problem with the LabStatsGoClient? Not sure what it is, but just as for Windows users, my first questions, besides those that Jerme asked would be:

1) Is your OS (and your drivers) up to date?
2) Have you tried turning off the third party program (LabStatsGoClient, in this case) off to see if it's a clash between the game and said program that's causing the issue?

My computer is a hand-me down from my dad, who works at the computer lab at a university. The school gave him the old computer, which was then given to me. I don't really know what the LabStatsGo thing is (or how to turn it off), but I'm fairly certain it's some residual program from the computer's original purpose.

My OS is 10.13.6, or High Sierra. My dad has specifically ordered me NOT to upgrade it, as the last time I did this with a computer he gave me, it bricked the computer. I'm not going to take that risk again.

The problem is that, if a PC/Mac is not up to date, sometimes it clashes with some games games and/or programs (and it puts your computer/laptop's security at risk) when the base code language behind the program has a version that is no longer supported by your OS version.

But if that's the case, why is this problem only happening now, along with the up-to-date Mac and Windows users? I'm pretty sure my OS being slightly out of date isn't the cause of this, especially when others who are up to date have the same issue.

The specific error that OP is posting, you mean?

All cases of those that I've come across so far, were caused by a (former) out-dated OS. Generally fixed by updating the OS (and if it was already done automatically or prior) and then reinstalling the game from scratch.

No, I'm saying that unless your OS is up to date, we can't rule that out. And since that has fixed it for several other people so far, I can't really offer anything besides that. Updating an OS should never be a scary thing, unless the computer is already faulty/corrupted file-wise. If you're too hesitant to do it yourself, I do 100% advise you (and/or your dad) to go to a specialist, because aside from the problems you will eventually start having more and more with games and programs if an OS isn't kept up to date, your internet security will also go down the drain, which is even more dangerous for devices that are easily hacked into via WiFi.

Do with it what you will, as it's friendly advise, but aside from that, there's nothing on our side that's causing the issue. I'm sorry.
