Mutiny 9: The Storm

The botanist peeks her head inside the door to listen in on the conversation.

[BRVR]

The Mercenary drags the child-creature below deck, and down to the cargo hold, looking for somewhere quiet. “We’re gonna have to talk about this, kid. I’m sorry, but I can’t have you running around with my face. Or anyone else’s for that matter. You could really scare or hurt people. And if that happens, you’ll be in danger too.”

"No face?" They look a bit sad. They nod and go to normal

/Stalk the Mercenary and his doppelganger

The red eyed dancer's steps quietly like a predator, back hunched ready to jump at any moment

You sneak after them, quietly following them into the cargo hold.

The botanist peeks her head inside the door to listen in on the conversation.

You catch some snatches of the conversation. Something about the sails, and the decks.

You mean you want to climb the rigging? Or just stare up at him and hope to work out what's going on?

The main deck is in something of a state of chaos. PCs are everywhere. The door to the Captain's Cabin hangs open.

They look dark and angry, and are rapidly approaching.

It's hard to tell from this distance, but you think he's preparing to haul the sail in perhaps?

/head to the captai's quarter

"Pardon me, captain, but I would like to inquire as to how long the voyage will be delayed by the approaching storm. Actually, how long will the voyage last?"

Seeing this child change so suddenly is unsettling even the second time. “Ahh. Don’t be sad. It’s just. It’s scary. And sometimes when people are scared they get mean. You might get hurt. Now, what you’re able to do is very cool. Looks like it’s very special. And it’d probably be really helpful in some emergencies. But you have to be very careful. I think I was the only person with a ranged weapon up there, but there was a man nearby with a sword. We don’t know what sorts of weapons everyone has so we all have to be very careful not to upset anybody. You don’t seem dangerous. More like you want to play. So let’s try and play safely, so that no one gets hurt.”

The other man nods, and heads out the door.

"Now, please head belowdecks sir, this is not going to be a very smooth few hours."

The child mimics Takumi's voice. "Face scary. Play safely. Careful for emergency." They seem satisfied with what they said and nods. "Faces. See my faces?"

“Yes, your faces are very good. I’d have thought I was looking right in the mirror if I didn’t see you change right before me.” He pats the kid on the head. “Are you here alone then? How did you even get on?”

[BRVR]

“Yes, your faces are very good. I’d have thought I was looking right in the mirror if I didn’t see you change right before me.” He pats the kid on the head. “Are you here alone then? How did you even get on?”

"On? On!" They wave their hand in a tidal motion. "On!" Then they frown. "Alone. Alone good."

The kid gets excited. "Faces! All faces!"

The kid becomes Takumi
Then the Painter.
Then two random men.
Then back to a kid. "Not all faces... Not... Good faces?" They nod their head. "Dangerous faces."

/nod and head below deck to the crew quarter

You enter the crew quarters. There are hammocks, slung across the cabin, with an equal number of chests and wardrobes. The room is poorly lit by a number of candles, held in iron fittings.

/strike a thinking pose on the main deck

As you strike your pose, a man heads past you and down into the ship. He returns moments later with two men, who are yawning and stretching. One heads towards the rigging, the other the painter. The man who went past you speaks.

"Ma'am, please head below. We've a storm coming in and we need to clear the decks."

"My word, I hope we'll fair well."

Seeing that the magical child is not in danger, the masked dancer heads to the middle deck to see other people. Before he heads out, he pats the changing child's head and taps the Mercenary on his forehead. "I'll be heading up. Don't fight," he says smiling under his mask.

“They can be dangerous, yes. If someone sees you changing. Or if you’re somewhere like this boat. There’s only a small number of people here, so if someone shows up twice that could be very bad. But, even though they can be dangerous. They’re very exact. You looked just like me. And just like Miss Painter. You’re very good at making faces. And if you’re alone..” The mercenary shoves his worries down. “Do you have a name, kiddo?” He watches the dancer he’d been ignoring before leave. May have to watch out for him.

You all head into the corridor. Bright oil lamps line the sides, firmly held in place by steel rings.


A thunderous boom echoes through the hall and rain begins to fall. A man comes over to the hatch to the lower decks and seals it shut.

Night 1

Night has now fallen, and a monster storm has begun to engulf the ship. The crew is attempting to see the ship through, but as part of this, they have cleared the deck. You can no longer access the Captan's Cabin, the galley, the main deck or the fore- and aft- castles

"Danger? New face for danger?"

[Fenraiser]

Seeing the two new people just entering the hall after the thunder and the crew shutting the upper deck, the wokf dancer decides to check on the passengers in their rooms. His red eyes glow even brighter as he does so.

The mercenary stumbled a bit as his heart began to beat a little faster. “I think it’s a storm, little one. We should go upstairs, it’s probably safer where nothing can fall on us.” He offered a hand to the child.

The Child takes the hand smiling.
