For when there are all, there are none. And when there are none, there is always some. Therefore, there is only all, and all and only.
Word rattles quickly across the snake of the empire; the great deceiver is dead. Lord Ravicca, one-who-heads-whisper, exposed by his closest aid. And then, when the truth shattered the innocent, when the great wafts of common-folk descended upon his abode, no blade did he or his knights raise save a scream as his jaws was torn from his skull.
But in his accepted death lay an absence; the once-lord had not one heir, save for a daughter who had fled many years ago. And with none of his aids trusted due to their allowed relation with the king, the common folk have decided to elect their own.
So the cards were set, so the rules were made, so the game of many masks begins. But will the next ruler be the one the people need, or the one they never knew?
You are clear on what your goals are. You are clear for how this empire is to grow under your rule. You only need to win this game, and take it all from those who wish to rob you.
You stare upon the great palace gates as they open to the beginning. In one hand, a parchment of invitation by the earls of your county. In the other, what necessities you cared to bring.
You step through the snakes' gates. You rummage through your things as you walk, and pull out your token; your mask.
Behind the Mask - Test 15 - All and Only
Hello, and welcome to Behind the Mask!
This is a test game, containing many new concepts, roles and changes. Experienced or beginner, I recommend you read the rules to confirm any changes.
Pre-game Before the game starts, you will be assigned a role.
Each role is unique in that two of the same role cannot appear. You will always have a different role from anyone else. Each role has strengths and weaknesses, but you can apply more general strategies to all of them.
Roles can change in between games; please look at the below role list for this game.
Roles:
Spoiler:Roles that are unchanged:
Barbarian
You are a Barbarian! Across the land, your name is whispered in fearful corners and shouted from the peaks of mountains. Mighty conquerors seek mighty trophies, and the Palace is certainly a worthy trophy.
After winning a duel, gain an intimidate charge up to a maximum of 3 at a time. During the dinner phase, you may expend any number of charges to intimidate an equal number of players. PM the moderator to use this power. Intimidation is not announced publicly, only the victim and the Barbarian will know. Intimidated players cannot challenge, and must accept all challenges presented to them for that challenge phase. If an intimidated player breaks this rule, the intimidation will be publicly revealed and be forced to adopt said rules.
Royal
You are a Royal! The blood running through your veins is undeniably royal. An aura of command encircles and influences those who behold you. Combined with a forceful and assertive personality, you can direct others without their knowledge.
Your vote counts as two during the Voting Phase. PM the moderators to cast your second vote secretly. Once per game, during the Voting Phase, you may force a vote. PM the Moderator to use this power. A forced vote allows you to instantly declare any vote-able player as executed. You or your role is not revealed when you used this, players will only know that a royal has forced the vote.
Poisoner
You are a Poisoner! There is no better color than the pale blue of asphyxiation. Or perhaps a simple white pallor. Hmm, but the rich re- No matter. Your art is that of death, slipped unnoticed into a vein, on the rim of a cup, among familiar foods...
You may poison a player's food during the Voting Phase. If they eat it, they will die during the dinner phase. PM the Moderator to use this power.
Roles that previous existed that are changed:
Sorcerer
You are a Sorcerer! Why must the magical elite linger among the unpowered civilians? No matter. Your victory is near certain, as you are obvious the the most cunning and clever person here. The other contestants must be grateful that your powers are too flashy.
Once per game, you may choose a player to magically kill. PM the Moderator to use this power. When you use your power, you will be revealed as the Sorcerer. There are no restrictions on when you may use this power, only that you cannot use it if you are one of the losers in a voting phase, nor during the first round.beseech thee, salt sorcerer.
Soldier
You are a Soldier! You went off to war a simple peasant boy, unsure of the world. You returned not a man, but a soldier. With guns, war is hell. With magic, war is worse. Your mind was nearly shattered, and your body forever changed.
You are immune to poison. You will be notified if poison attempted to kill you. You will kill the MAA when he shoots you. This does not reveal your role. While you may be blackmailed, you cannot die to it. You are notified if you are drugged by the Pharmacist, but you are not immune to it.
Musician
You are a Musician! Perfect pitch, perfect playing... perfect music. Hands dance across strings and keys as the notes rise and fall. No matter the tune, no matter the tempo, every song ascends to perfection in your grasp. Yet with a single twist, that song becomes an instrument of death.
At the end of the challenge phase, you may declare one hypothetical dance against two players. One of the players can be yourself. At the start of the voting phase, you will receive results privately as if the two had danced each other ignoring all abilities. Three times per game, during the Action Phase, you may change the winner of a dance. PM the Moderator to use this power. You may use this ability once on yourself.
Man-at-arms
You are a Man-at-arms! All these poor people attempting to fool their way to riches, you have, and always has, been an excellent murderer. By detecting weakness in the group, you can spread fear with one simple line - Who done it?
At the end of the voting phase, you may shoot one person by expending a shot. They will not survive the shot unless they are the Soldier. If you shoot the Soldier, the Soldier will kill you instead. You can only shoot losers of duels/dances. Additionally, you also gain an additional shooting every time you defeat a player in a duel or dance. The shooting is silent, meaning it does not reveal your role. The death occurs at the end of the voting phase. You cannot store more than 2 shots at a time. You start off with one shot. You can only gain one shot per round. You cannot shoot during the first round. You may expend as many shots to shoot as many people during the voting phase, so long as each have lost a challenge that phase and you have enough shots.
Peasant
You are a Peasant! Every day, you go out onto your simple plot of land and farm. But those who look past your grubby face will find a mind as sharp as a tack. The world is an open book to you, as darting eyes pick out nuances in every scenario.
You will be notified whenever the Blacksmith or the Musician interferes in a challenge at the end of the action phase. You will be notified of any secret plate switches at the end of the dinner phase. You will be notified of all challenges that were NOT influenced by abilities at the end of the challenge phase. "Influence" is determined by a situation in a challenge where an ability causes a massive change (I.E, the Knight's passive ability to make dances duels, drugging causing an automatic loss) You will be notified of the original target for the poisoner at the end of the voting phase. You will know if someone is blackmailed or threatened at the end of the dinner phase.
Knight
You are a Knight! Fair combat is your style, for there is true honour when blade meets blade. You find the best way to learn of someone is by your code of honour, trial by combat.
Any dance challenges you partake in are considered duels. It will still appear to be a dance to all players. Blacksmith and Musician will know the difference. Once per game, you may initiate a "Colosseum phase" during the dinner phase The "Colosseum phase" takes place after the dinner phase. During this phase, all players secretly vote on another player. Players may vote for themselves. The two highest voted players will duel each other, and the loser will be killed. In the event of a tie, the Knight may choose the combatants amongst those voted.
Blackmailer
You are a Blackmailer! Your hobby is certainly dirty- in that you dig up dirt. Research and preparation are the keys to success. Before you entered the Palace, you were already familiar with every tidbit and secret embedded in the past of the other players- secrets that will make them cringe in fear and do your bidding.
During the Dinner Phase, you may blackmail one player. PM the Moderator to use this power. Blackmailed players must challenge or take part in a challenge during the Challenge Phase, or will die. Only the blackmailed player will know that they are blackmailed.
Blacksmith
You are a Blacksmith! Steel flows like water under your steady gaze and steady flame. The pounding of your hammer crafts works of art and workers of war. One of your weapons in a hand guarantees victory.
At the end of the challenge phase, you may declare one hypothetical duels against two players. One of the players can be yourself. At the start of the voting phase, you will receive results privately as if the two had duelled each other ignoring all abilities. Three times per game, during the Action Phase, you may change the winner of a dance. PM the Moderator to use this power. You may use this ability once on yourself.
Roles that are new:
Broker
You are a Broker! You always knew how to stock things back at home, always working a market owner's job, and that skill comes to more use here. Why should you settle for one, when you can always get a little more...
You may claim a private gift reserve each voting phase, regardless if you have been challenged or not. If you already claim gifts, you gain a private reserve on top of that. You may have up to 3 private gift reserves at a time. Unlike other roles, you may redeem both your private and public gift reserves at any time outside of the voting phase. Doing so reveals you as the Broker, but does not stop you from gaining gifts each voting phase. PM the moderator when you wish to reveal yourself as the Broker.
Pharmacist
You are a Pharmacist! Once a man with integrity. You ran a successful business, until one day the King of your nation seized your assets to prevent you from obtaining more wealth than him. You came here to wage revenge against this King, and defeat him in war. You are willing to do anything to get this castle, even harm the innocent. people in this castle.
5 times per game, during the voting phase, you may drug somebody's food. Drugged food guarantees that the victim automatically lose all challenges next challenge phase, regardless of base values. Premium food prevents this, but gives your use of your drug back in exchange. You may use this as many times as you have uses left, or save them across future rounds. Once each voting phase, in addition to drugging somebody, You may give them a sedative instead. Sedative food prevents the victim from voting during the next voting phase. Premium food prevents this. You can only sedate one player per voting phase. Players are not told they are drugged or sedated. While you have limited uses on drugging, you have unlimited uses of sedation.
Author
You are an Author! Ink at hand with pen and parchment, you strive to make the greatest story. Be it from scandals or centrifuge, your words dart across the world like an inanimate hand. And with those words comes power.
Each voting phase, you may attempt to predict a standard guess following the next dinner phase. PM the moderator to use this power. You may make as many predictions as there are roles, and may make them all in the same phase or divide them between rounds. You may only predict each role once per game, and you may not predict an author guess. Therefore, you may only use this power as many times as there are players in the game, minus one. (BtM T15 - 14 uses) If any roles you predict are guessed that following dinner phase, those guesses are negated and you learn the roles of those who had their guesses negated. All players are alerted when an author intervenes. Death stake guesses are considered to have failed, therefore killing the guesser.
Cheater
You are a Cheater! You've never played a fair game in your life. And frankly, you don't intend to. With so much on the line, why allow rules to stop you? A number removed here, a number added there. 'Rules' are more 'guidelines' to you.
Your positions are always at the bottom of both lists. Each challenge phase, you automatically win the first two challenges of that phase. This occurs before other effects. The first two challenges are chronologically the first two challenges issued, not accepted. Denied challenges are not considered chronologically; it only applies if the challenge is accepted. The first time you are guessed as cheater, it is considered a fail.
Challenge phase: The game always starts with this phase. This phase lasts 48 hours, or until all challenge are submitted. Time may be increased at the moderator's discretion. A challenge phase may be voted to be skipped with majority players in agreement so long as no challenges occur.
During the challenge phase, you may challenge anyone to a duel or a dance. The difference between the two depends on what role you have, but you may only challenge one person per phase. The highest on each respective chart below is the winner.
For a challenge to go through, one person must challenge another, and then the other must accept the challenge. Each person is given 1 deny at the start of the game, which they can use to refuse a duel from another person. You can get more denies as a gift. If you do not respond before the challenge phase ends, you will automatically accept any challenges against you. Challenges typically may look as follow:
Abandoned Monk wrote:By the nine! These fools dare quash against my skill?!
You, ruffian seem ill equipped to deal with me! I /Challenge thee hawky bastard to a duel!
The "/Challenge" is important. This tells the mod exactly what you are doing. If you don't care for roleplay, simply put "/Challenge *insert mask* *insert type of challenge*". Bolding the challenge will also help the moderator identify the challenge.
You don't have to challenge if you don't want to - state that you wish to /nochallenge and the moderator won't expect anything from you. You cannot take these back once you declare them! No challenging also does not protect you from being challenged.
To accept a challenge against you, state "/Accept". If you wish to use a deny, you may by saying "/Deny". Do not forget the "/".
Duel list:
Spoiler:Barbarian Soldier Blacksmith Knight Man at arms Sorcerer Blackmailer Peasant Poisoner Pharmacist Author Royal Broker Musician Cheater
Dance list:
Spoiler:Royal Musician Blackmailer Peasant Sorcerer Poisoner Pharmacist Soldier Man at arms Broker Blacksmith Barbarian Author Knight Cheater
Voting phase: This phase lasts 24 hours. Time may be increased at the moderator's discretion. Due to the nature of some roles, this phase cannot end early.
Anyone who loses a duel or a dance is eligible for voting. The Royal can vote twice, but otherwise each person gets to vote once. If you are voted off by the group, you will be formerly executed and be officially removed from the game. Roles are not revealed upon death and no-one can be executed on the first round.
While some roles can avoid being voted, no single role can avoid execution.
Additionally, during this phase, if you took part in a challenge during the challenge phase (Regardless of whether you won or lost) you may PM me for your choice of gift. There are 5 gifts to choose from -
Free guess - You can guess someone's role the following dinner phase. You cannot store free guesses, and you can only make one guess per dinner phase. This gift remains active, and the guess must be PM'd to me. If you do not use the free guess in the round you acquire it, it will be wasted. You cannot have more than 1 of this gift. Free deny - You can get an additional deny to use for challenges. You may hold a maximum of 5 denies. Encore - You may consume an encore during the challenge phase to make another challenge. You cannot challenge the same person twice in a single round. You may hold a maximum of 3 encores. Guess immunity - You may ask for guess immunity, preventing you from being guessed for that dinner phase. Any guesses on you will be rendered invalid, regardless of whether correct or not. This gift is automatically used on the round you acquired it. You cannot have more than 1 of this gift at a time. Premium food - Upon receiving this gift, you will be given food that cannot be poisoned, amongst other effects. If the poisoner selected food that is premium, it will have no effect. This gift is automatically used on the phase you acquire it. You cannot have more than 1 of this gift. Premium food can be swapped around through the use of switches. Gift Reserve - As an alternative, this gift can be redeemed later in the game during the voting phase for a gift of your choosing. You can only hold 2 of these at any time. Once redeemed, you will receive the requested gift at the end of the voting phase alongside other gifts.
If you were challenged multiple times, you can have multiple gifts with up to 3 in a single phase.
Dinner phase: This phase lasts 24 hours. Time may be increased at the moderator's discretion. Due to the nature of some roles, this phase cannot end early.
After all the other phases, the 15 will sit and eat dinner. During this time, you can choose to swap plates with anybody else. You may do so by stating "/switch [insert mask name]" Roles that interact with this phase will have additional actions or notifications. Be aware of your ability.
Some of your gifts also become relevant during this phase. Pay attention to what your gifts do, and act accordingly.
If you will it, you may guess with your life a player's role with no gift cost. If you are correct, you will eliminate them from the game. But if you get it wrong, you yourself are eliminated. PM the moderator to perform this action, do not guess publicly!
Once the dinner phase ends, the round ends and the next round begins. We start from the challenge phase again, and the game loops until one remains. The survivor is declared the winner.
Other information Death is self-explanatory. You are out of the game. Not everyone can be a winner, but please be civil as you do.
Private communication between players is perfectly acceptable. However, you must include me in the PMs. Failing to do so is grounds for eviction from the game. You have been warned. Also, you cannot communicate privately with a player who is dead.
Editing posts is banned, unless it is the most recent post. Again, it is grounds for eviction from the game. If you are editing a post and another post is made during your edit, make a new post.
In the past and present, moderators have made errors in judgement and game-play. If you notice such an error, notify the moderator and keep them informed - We've had players die when they couldn't, roles being revealed by accident and rules be broken.
If you ever have any additional problems that are not mentioned, such as civil behaviour, feel free to PM the current moderator for any excess questions.
Signups: If you want to signup, please type "/join" and give yourself a mask to don. Masks typically follow animals, both real and mythical. There may also be certain themes in each game to follow.
Anyone is welcome, even newbies. The game is relatively easy to understand and plays itself in some ways. This is a test game, and is not as strict as a result. However, some of the rules applied here may differ from standard games.
The theme is 18th century fantasy. Flintlock and fireballs. Do as you will with that.
Due to the nature of the creation of this game, many players have already pre-in'ed into signups. We apologise for anyone who missed out due to this, but this game was created in compensation. If you have pre-in'ed through this, please confirm your attendance by posting below and naming your mask.

I'm the alpha wolf with the howl that is worse than my bite! A gentle, caring creature that will gladly be your companion or let you become part of the pack.
You'll still need to declare a mask. And yes, apologies for the typo.
Edit: Not seeing the typo here, it's spelled correctly?
UazyAltay is the typo
Should be Uzay
You're welcome :3

My alts were EdwardMidford and TsuchiyaTenaka. I apologise profusely for being bad and hiding behind them. I ask for forgiveness but know that won't be a simple feat. Please stop bringing up my past, as I'm striving towards a new future. I just sometimes struggle to show that I truly want said change.
