Honestly just make your character unique and you'll be fine. I have some ideas for extremely rare and/or obscure races if you'd like?

Kalashtar, genasi, and dragonborn are also some great choices.

Also Warforged, Grung, Aarakocra, Firbolg, Bugbear, Kobold, Hobgoblin, Lizardfolk, Orc, Triton, Yuan-ti, Tortle, Centuar, Loxodon, Locathah, Vedalken, etc...

Literally any race is a great choice. Just pick what you want to play

But also remember you don't have to have an interesting race to be an interesting character.

Humans, Half-Elves, Elves, Dwarves and Halings are great too.

And less work for me to try and fit into the setting : P

Its not too much of a problem, I was just teasing. In the end the continent is large enough that I can justify most races being outside of the parts I have mapped.

My real problem is focusing on the fun parts of planning the adventure (the plot, what the NPCs are like, what the players might do, how the adventure might conclude) in order to procrastinate the boring planning (character names, place names, maps, pre-prepared descriptive text, stat blocks).

Well as far as NPCs go just be generic for the most part. It isn't going to matter to much if the blacksmith from a town that we spend exactly 1 day in doesn't have an intricate backstory. An fir the stat blocks there's a great app I use to help with that.

Don't worry it's fine. I've been DMing for quite a while now. Just don't force me to make up a name for someone on the fly lol.

Yes.

Also, if our character dies can we make a new one?

Yes, unless we are near enough to the end of the adventure that it wouldn't make sense to introduce another character.

I was thinking of running Storm Sorcery, not even looking at this thread, but ended up settling on something a bit different and oddly ironic.

Don't want to spoil the surprise just yet though.
