Probably not. Feats are an optional rule.

If we are using them though, I'd like to ban the usual suspects, like GWM, SS, Lucky, etc. They tend to break the game.

I'm not sure whether or not I'll ban those, I'll think about it.

I believe you are forgetting by far the most unfair feat: sentinel.

Sentinel doesn't seem that bad.

It allows you to lock down a single enemy, sure, but your opportunity attack takes up your reaction, so at most you get one extra hit per turn.

Yes. Feats are taken as a replacement for a Ability Score Increase.

Sure.

TBH i'm fine with most stuff like feats and multiclassing as long as people don't munchkin too much.

Yes, there will be some boundaries. I'll message you a bit later tomorrow and we can have a discussion about that.

Due to slow responses from some of the players (which is not a problem), we probably won't be ready to start by the weekend.

In the meantime, anyone else got any good game stories, what was your favorite dnd moment?

The time our wild mage sorcerer got the fireball wild magic and killed a party member even though the DM let him reroll his dex save like 10 times.

I should mention this was in Tomb of Annihilation, so he couldn’t get revived

This would actually have less activity in the long run as it would slow down combat immensely.

TheLastEvangelist is done. Only two players are still making their characters now. cupcakeaj2 is still fairly early on in the character creation process, and is doing it via PMs with me. Cenvil pretty much finished their character sheet a while back and then dissappeared before I could get a backstory and description and hasn't been online since.

ScorpioDiAngelo wrote:Since response time is so slow, have you considered allowing more players in hopes of greater activity levels?

I don't think that will help. Most of the players were fairly fast but it will always be as long as the slowest player takes. As DJVoxel says it will slow down combat quite a bit. Eight is already a lot of players, so I don't think we should add more. I've run a game for 10 players IRL and even though they are experienced players and generally pay attention, it is hard to keep those sorts of numbers of players occupied at once, and combat was really slow.

Hmm. Maybe the time my character threw a kenku at a dragon angry birrds style.

I've had Cenvil do that to me before in the past with one of my games, though he left two-thirds of the way through.

Maybe send him some kind of deadline?

I don't think the messages haven't actually been read so I'mz not sure how much help it will be. I will send him something soon and if he doesn't respond and everyone else is finished I'll start without him.

We'll see how it goes.

SEEMS bad.

I have a group where we sometimes juggle multiple campaigns at a time. Sentinel is absolute god-tier in combat. You can use it even when they disengage, it cuts movement to 0 to prevent running (minus magic), and you can use it supportively by attacking an enemy when an ally is attacked, which is excellent for any class that has massive damage on-hit (Rogue's sneak attack, Paladin's holy smite).

There's also battlecaster which makes concerntration checks twice as likely to pass and allow you to cast single-target spells as a reaction (Which can be some really powerful spells, like hold person, inflict wounds or command. Some weirder ones like bestow curse too.) (I also believe battlecaster is UA)

I wouldn't mind if feats were banned, but personally feast allow for more diverse characters.

This assumes the attack hits and it doesn't help too much against multiple targets.

Its true about the multiple targets but usually a class that takes sentinel has a high + to attack hits or has some sort of advantage bonus, which mitigates that effect.

I still think it isn't a problem since it is not a 100% better pick over an ASI. It's a situational utility, made to accentuate certain builds which is exactly what feats should be.

GWM, SS and Lucky are problematic because they are always better than an ASI.

I might be being optimistic but I think we might be able to start on either sunday or monday or tuesday at the current rate character creation is going. Personally I would prefer to start playing around 5pm GMT as that is when I would guess the most people would be available to play, and I think it would be best if as many people as possible are around the moment the game starts. How does that time sound, would you like it to start at a diffent time than that?

Edit: wont be sunday
