Couple things to note, 1) sailing ships are so flammable it’s not funny. They’re covered in tar and made of wood and canvas so spilling oil over an enemy might not be the best idea when that oil will also lead the flame to the ship, and 2) that would require you hefting around the oil instead of anything else.
