Censorship of profanities / swears

Postby Tommyticklemouse » Thu Sep 25, 2014 6:28 am

Im a little butthurt by the recent update of censoring bad words that now prevents me entering a game named "I Cum Blood"

Maybe It's for the greater good that they've clamped down a little on typing profanities.

Should probably just grow up or be more creative (^^)

On the other hand you can disable the filter for swears in chat by going to settings.

Shouldn't you be a bit more mature about your in-game name?

You're already admitting to violating Section 5, sub-section E of the Terms of Use for Town of Salem, which states the following;
BlankMediaGames Terms of Use wrote:Transmitting or communicating any content which, in the sole and exclusive discretion of BlankMediaGames, is deemed offensive, including, but not limited to, language that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, sexually explicit, or racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable;

Do choose more mature, non-explicit names, if you want my honest opinion. :D

I tried to name myself a certain breed of tree once but the game wouldn't let me. Although, having watched 'Are You Being Served?' I guess I can understand why they wouldn't allow it. It's a running gag with Mrs Slocombe.
It didn't even occurred to me that it would be viewed as obscene.

ToS is a game targeted towards people of all ages. From a small age of 10 up to 50 or so. We don't want younger children having the wrong message.

Honestly, if they're under 13, they shouldn't be on websites due to COPPA. Some websites actually ban users under 13 from being on their websites due to COPPA Law. (It's a US law for children safety, basically, for those who don't know.) Especially during these days, when people are just horrid on the internet, anyone under 13 doesn't need to be apart of the internet. This is why my child, no matter what, will not get a smartphone until I think they are old enough. I see second and third graders who have iPhones...seriously? -_-

Maybe because the word "grape" would be said as "g****". But then, when would grapes be relevant to Town Of Salem anyways?

Yes it that nothing to do with TOS but hasn't that always been the point of being able to choose in game names?

Jesus, I bet you're a laugh at parties!

Well I'm not trying to be offensive, that just happens to be a song title of one of my favourite bands.

A song wich touches me on such a deep personal level, that I want to share it with others hoping they'll feel the same way

I'm just offering a simple suggestion. No need to go insulting me and throwing your sarcasm everywhere. :)

I actually think the censorship is a little bit of a joke. It's way too easy to bypass in chat and in names.

I prefer to have the filter off, but I understand those that don't wish to see that stuff.

I apologize Naru2008, I guess sarcasm really is the lowest form of wit. :oops:

Ill just have to settle for Dethklok's song name involving fire and a raging libido.

Don't worry Naru, you're always invited to my parties if you're ever around my neck of the woods <333

Personally, I think that if you're trying to dodge the filters personally, you're a bit of cockosauras. If you haven't found the option to turn off the chat filter, then fine, I guess it's understandable... censorship is something that I don't approve of.

However, if you do decide to bypass the filters to broadcast shittalk to other users who have the filters on deliberately, and don't want to hear these words, then that's a total dick move.

That'd make you that one guy at parties who is super loud all night, gets punched and throws up on someone's sofa.

I learnt what some inappropriate words were from runescape when I was 9 years old and that had censorship, Even though i'm fine, this stuff needs to be kept to yourself. "I Cum Blood" there's literally nothing funny nor clever about it. Just really stupid and immature.
