Something people may not have considered

Postby Kroogur » Sat Sep 20, 2014 3:24 pm

I get this mostly with jailors, the whole "goal and or abilities" thing.
Some of us have disabilities which make typing quickly a problem, I am an older gamer and have arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome and nerve damage in my hands (the last two due to the nature of my job as an auto mechanic and past injuries). You want to know my role fine, you want a brief description of people i may have investigated/healed/transported etc.. fine, But please enough with the "gimme yer abilities or i'll execute you" rubbish.

It's far to easy to have the wiki handy to lie about anything anyways so it's not even a reliable tactic.

Just something for folks to consider.

This is something I pointed out in a different thread, about how people have a problem with typing speeds. For me, I have a speed issue where my brain doesn't get info as fast as other peoples, about a second or two slower. In a game like this, time is everything. And about having the wiki up, even that can go bad because 1.) someone has a slower computer and thus can't reach the wiki (if they just want to live and want to read it, me I just tell them "no" basically) or 2.) the Jailor really doesn't give a damn either way and will say you just took it off the wiki, even if you're telling the truth so pretty much he/she is telling you that you were going to die no matter what.

That's not the only thing people who think forcing players to read role cards is a good strategy haven't considered.

Reading role card is a BAD strategy. I share your concern

They will make a directory that you can pull up any role card you choose. It will not be an effective method.

Going with the excuse that it's reliable and quick is just admitting you have no deductive reasoning skills. I play the game for the "Ah ha!" moments when you catch someone in a lie and can hang them, figuring out just what you're up against when two people claim doctors and having to decide which one is telling the truth, or tricking the Jailor or the town into thinking you're someone important when you're a killer all the way to the endgame. Keeping role card reading as an option just gives people permission to not play the game right and not use the brains they were born with.

well you clearly are very opinionated about the 'right' ways to play the game. That said i see nothing wrong with it, it is a fairly reliable method that can be countered just like any other, and until the day it is no longer as useful as it is now there's no reason to stop doing it

As you can see in posts above and a few threads, it's not just me saying so. Once again, just like the whole leaving thing, you are in the minority of seeing nothing wrong with what you do.

I understand why you would though, cause you wanna win as evil and it's being made null and void to try lying otherwise cause it's all the Jailors want and nothing else. This sort of thing is why I feel the reading is not okay, there shouldn't be just one thing you have to do to win/live another day.

I want to show them it's a bad tactic, so that usually shows how stupid it is

I really don't mind it as a tactic, when used against me. Sometimes Jailors just enjoy pressuring people, but don't execute them for nothing.

I wouldn't use it as my basis for evidence, though, personally. That's when you see Jailors executing Docs and Lookouts.

Same opinions as all these other people. This tactic is awful.

It takes longer to type it up from the game screen than to find, copy, and paste from the wiki.
