VLDR: Ignorance is Bliss
[Game Rules]
1) Respect me and the other players. Please remember that this is just a game.
2) Role-playing is strongly encouraged but will not be enforced. Anything out of character or fourth wall breaking should go inside of brackets.
3) Roles exist in this game. Do not reference them in ways that break the fourth wall.
4) Do not go against your win condition. Exceptions may be granted for character reasons (meaning if you play the character over the role, I won't penalize you).
5) Only post during designated phases. I will tell you when you can and cannot post. Dead players may not post.
6) Do not talk about the game outside of game means. This applies for dead players as well. Dead players will have a dead chat to talk about game stuff in private.
7) Remember to have fun. If you aren't enjoying the game, please let me know. I'm always looking for ways to improve my games and hosting abilities.
[Roles]
At the start of the game, all players will receive their Character Card. This card will contain your name, age, gender, and some information on your past. Your attributes and win condition will also be revealed to you so you can build a backstory and a personality to suit your given backstory parts and win condition. Your ability or abilities will be revealed to you once all players have finished making a backstory.
[Pregame]
Backstories will be made during a Pregame Phase. Players may post in the thread during this phase to mingle with each other. This phase should last no more than 48 hours (and will likely last significantly less than that). I reserve the right to veto any backstory elements you present to me. Once all backstories are in, the game will start. You may add to your backstory at any point during the game, so long as it is consistent with your character.
[Attributes]
- Code: Select all
STR - Strength. Determines the amount of weight you can carry and the potency of your punches.
DEX - Dexterity. Determines how nimble you are with your hands, how fast you can run and how sharp your reflexes are. Also used to dodge incoming attacks.
ACC - Accuracy. Determines how likely you are to hit a target from a distance, or land a blow in combat. The farther away you are from your target, the more important this attribute is.
CON - Constitution. Determines how big of a build you have, how well you can take hits and how many hits you can take before being knocked out or killed.
Some roles have adept or inept components to them.
An adept action takes the higher of two D20 rolls. An inept action takes the lower of two D20 roles.
[Combat]
All attacks require two rolls per player.
The first roll is the attacker's Accuracy against the defender's Dexterity. The closer the attacker is to the target, the more favourable this roll is to the attacker. This roll determines if the attack makes contact with the defender. If this roll fails, the attack misses and no further rolls are made for the attack.
The second roll is the attacker's Strength against the defender's Constitution. This roll determines how much damage is done in the attack. The Strength roll will determine the damage itself, and the Constitution roll will determine how the defender deals with the damage.
[Activity]
Do not join this game if you will not be active. This game will take no more than 10 days (plus pre-game phase) barring events outside of my control. Try to be active for at least a couple hours a day. Players who have activity restrictions (school, work, etc) will have action priority for exploring, but not for attacking. Inactive players may be prodded or removed from the game at my discretion. If you know in advance that you will be inactive for 24 consecutive hours or more, please let me know so I don't remove you for inactivity.
If you are inactive, I may act for you should the situation demand it. You may send me instructions for what to do in such an event at any time. I will try to play your character as you have been playing so far (meaning if you are avoiding conflict, you will run away if attacked, if you have been starting fights you will retaliate, etc). Do not complain about actions taken while you are inactive. Always remember that the alternative would have been far worse than what actually happened if I did not take action for you.
[Phases of Play]
There is no designated Ambidex or Puzzle phase. The vast majority of this game will be done in PMs.
The entire game is essentially one Roaming phase.
This does not mean that there are no puzzles and no Ambidex game.
If you are a new player, you should make new PM folders for this game.
[Inventory]
All players get 5 inventory slots plus a hidden slot. All items become visible on death or if you are searched while unconscious. Items that are part of a role do not count towards your limit. (You do not have more slots, but starting items are not counted if the player who started with them is holding them).
[Actions]
You may attempt any action you like. A D20 will be used to gauge success or failure in your actions. Creative actions are encouraged.
[Maps]
When you join, I will send you a link to a google spreadsheet. This will be your map. As you explore new areas, I will add them to your map.
I will also be adding room descriptions in the spreadsheet so you can reference them at your convenience.
You will have edit permissions for if you wish to make notes on the map or on other in-game events. Please do not change the room names or alter the map. Don't be that guy.
[Joining Procedure]
Send LordofFail a private message after April 20th, 4:20 PM EST.
Subject should start with VLDR. Body should contain /join somewhere in it. Add "also I'm an ultra bottom" to your join for bonus style points.
Sending your join early will result in being cancelled. Again, don't be that guy.
[New Players]
Three slots are reserved for new players.
New players may send their join PM 24 hours before normal signups (new player signup timer here).
If the new player slots are still open when normal signups open, the spot may be filled by anyone.
Also, feel free to join the community discord. You can even send in actions by DM if you like (I personally prefer DM actions, they are easier to keep track of than PM actions).
