Cheat Sheet on Using TG!

Postby Cabohhh » Wed Jul 14, 2021 5:53 pm

Well hi there! This is an introduction on modding the Testing Grounds, found here. This is where we test the winners of the monthly polls.
Now, sometimes, maybe you want to mod a test game. Maybe you just wanna play Town of Morons. Maybe you just want to have 5 alts and make them all kill each other. Your choice, really. Just remember that Official TG tests will take precedence over your casual games, so please listen if a moderator asks you to stop for the tests.

Basics :D

When you enter the TG, you'll notice on the right-hand side of the screen there's a list of names. Those are the current players. Names highlighted in light blue are currently spectating. Players whose boxes have been grayed with a role underneath are currently dead.

Sometimes, text will be bolded and highlighted in yellow. This means that the moderator is currently speaking.

if you look up at the top, underneath the search bar, you'll see several navy blue boxes with words in them. Those are the periods, which I'll explain down below.

Pregame: As you can tell by the name, this is before the game, where you can just talk, laugh, use the fun commands, and complain about the overly town-sided rolelist. Here, the role list is edited and shown, which I'll explain later.

Roles: This is where the rolelist is rolled, and roles are distributed amongst the players. When you have been given a role, use the command /confirm to confirm that you have received a role.

Mod Time: Mod time happens after every Day, Night, and Verdict period ends. This is where the mod will perform commands, ie. Jailing, killing, giving investigative results, etc. Because Automod isn't completely functional on its own, the mod will have to do most actions manually, so don't complain about it taking too long, mmkay?

The mod will get a list of everyone's names, their role, and who they are targeting, in order to assist them to make sure they're doing everything in the correct order.

Day: You'll notice that there are two days, "Day #" and "Day 1". Day # is just the normal day, the number which can be changed by the mod with the little "Day/Night" variable next to the "Day 1" button. Day 1 is for (obviously) Day 1, where the timer is 15 seconds.

Voting: This portion of the day is for, well, voting. You can either press the vote button on the right hand side, like you normally would in ToS, or you can use the "/vote" function, followed by the number or name of the player you have chosen to vote for.

Trial: If a player has had enough votes on them, the game will be put into the Trial phase. This is where you would argue your case, post your will, call your accuser exe, etc.

Verdict: This is where you will vote on the fate of the accused. Like normal ToS, you can guilty, inno, or abstain. If the accused is guilty, it will go into Last Words. This is just the five seconds where you yell at the town for "gamethrowing". After the Last Words phase, it will go into Mod Time. Please remember, if you're modding, give a grace period of 10 seconds after the will and role are revealed for the players to discuss.

Night: This is quite self explanatory. During this time, you will use your abilities via the buttons or the /target function, talk with the dead, execute, etc. Please do not press anything if you do not have a night ability. After the forty seconds have ended, it will go into Mod Time.

This will rinse and repeat until an ending is reached.

Rolelists and Role Randomizer

Now that you've got a grasp on the fundamentals, let's talk commands and modding.

Now, before you start the game, you'll need a role list. If you look at the bottom right corner, you'll see two buttons, one with dots and lines, and one with the letters "AM" written in capitals. Press the button on the left (the dots and lines) and a menu with roles will pop up. You'll see a role for each player excluding the mod. These roles can be changed by pressing the pencil emoticon next to the role. To set the role in stone, press enter.

Most of the time, roles are going to be Town Investigative, Random Mafia, Any, so on so forth. If you enter a desired subalignment correctly, it will be coloured when you press the enter key. If it isn't coloured, you most likely made a typo.

Specific roles (Godfather, Escort, Witch) will not be coloured. Because there doesn't need to be any randomizations with these, they will stay the same when you enter the roles phase.

To show everyone the role list, press the "Show List" button on top of the pop-up. To show the roles of everyone, use the "Show Roles" button. This will show the roles of all players, so try not to use that.

After setting up the role list, you'll see a button with a picture of a die on it. This will distribute the roles amongst the players. Press the checkmark to apply the roles to the corresponding players.

You might see some roles that you don't recognize. This is most likely because you have "Custom Roles" turned on. To disable Custom Roles, just press the checkbox until there isn't a checkmark in it anymore.

Modding

As the mod, you have the responsibility of performing all functions for the testers

When you look at a player, you'll see that there are a lot of buttons. These are complicated, but I'll endeavour to simplify.

Spoiler: Kill: Obviously, this kills a player. It is instant, so I would suggest that you use this only after all other commands are completed. The role and will of a player will be revealed.
If a target has been cleaned, use the /clean # command to clean the target. A list of other commands can be found with the command /help.

Jail: This is for jailed targets. Press this to send someone to jail. They will be able to speak to the Jailor in night chat, and the jailor can choose to use the /execute (Also known as /x) function to kill their jailed target. Remember to release the jailed target, or else there will be two jailed targets!

w: Use this button to view a target's will.

Arrow Button: Pressing this will give you a list of preset prompts (ie. RBed, Controlled, Attacked and Healed, etc.). Use these if you don't want to directly message the targeted.

Fedora: Pressing this will give the target access to the Mafia night chat.

Keys: Pressing this will give the targeted Jailor abilities. Strictly for the Jailor only, no one else.

Chat Bubble: Pressing this will let the targeted read whispers. Really only for Blackmailer.

Candle: Pressing this will let the targeted speak to the dead.

Incognito Symbol: Pressing this will give the targeted the ability to reveal as the Mayor. Obviously, only for Mayors.

Player Commands

So you've seen the buttons. But, there are a whole bundle of commands that are exceptionally important.

Spoiler: /help: This will give you a full list of commands, and their descriptions.

/givemod: This will make a tester a mod. To be used by the mod.

/mod: This will message the moderator. To be used by testers.

/msg #: This will message a tester. To be used by the mod.

/role #: This will let you view your target's role. To be used by the mod.

/rolelist: This will show you the current rolelist in use. To be used by everyone.

/w #: This is for whispering, like in ToS. To be used by testers.

/vote #: Use this to vote for a player, for those people who like to make their lives a little extra harder.

/ping: Use this to see what your ping is.

/ss #: Use this to unspectate a player. Can only be used in pregame, and to be used by the spectator or mod.

/clean #: This will clean a player. To be used by the mod.

/disguise # #: This will disguise a player. To be used by the mod.

/sys: This will send a notification to a player, usually used for investigative results/custom notifications. To be used by the mod.

/afk: This will cause you to go afk. You can only use this in Pregame phase. To be used by everyone.

/me: A fun lil thing for you to find out :3

/hug: Give your friend a big ol hug! (Only in pregame)

So this is it. You're now a modding genius. Just remember to follow the ToS rules, be civil, and most importantly, don't die.
