Why is LoL so bad?

Because it arguably panders to the lowest common denominator, only superseded in this metric by HotS.
There's not all that many impactful items, most of them are just stat-sticks which is fine but something I really enjoy about dota is the range of interesting end-game items. I'd love to see something like Agh's.
Additionally the game tries to put up this veil of everything being roughly equivalent. There aren't any hard counters like there are in dota, and therefore there's less emphasis on the generic mid/high elo player actually learning match-ups of every lane. League recently feels like do your best to win lane, then do your best to win the 4v4. Sometimes you have a splitpusher and its interesting. Dota feels a lot more complex in the first 15-20 mins of the game. And competitive League is at that point but the amount of inter-lane play and room to influence the map pre-15 is kinda weak in league imo.
I'd have more grips about the league community but around my MMR they aren't actually that bad. It gets really bad in the highest mmr brackets (high diamond and up) and the lower mmr brackets (high silver-iron). Low plat is kinda rough too but idk. It's getting better.

League tries to make the game look simple to draw in new players and it's not and that leads to a more lax playerbase.
That's something that I admire about dota, there isn't any masking of the skillfloor.
