if its something like your voice, people care less than you think. If your friends are pestering you about it and you don't want to talk, just don't do it. If they keep pushing for it, they just aren't good friends.
Just whenever you enter a voice channel make sure you are muted first thing, every time and you will be good. I myself am pretty private when it comes to things like that, so i try my best to not unmute myself, and in a year and a bit it only happened once, and very briefly.
