Earth open up
The ball falls into the core of the earth, where it is lost for millions of years. During that time, it becomes covered in iron. The earth eventually is swallowed by the sun, but the ball is propelled out first. It goes to a space station, where the robots that have taken us over send it back through a time portal into my hand.
