[Game Idea] 12 Angry Townies

Postby Alzar » Tue Mar 15, 2016 2:11 pm

A switchblade found on the scene. A dead father, and a boy without an alibi. Twelve Jurors, two witnesses, one suspect.
12 strangers, locked in a room to decide a man’s fate-

THE JUDGE IS DEAD. LONG LIVE THE MAFIA.

  1. This is a closed 12 player game, themed around the play 12 Angry Men.
  2. 168 hour days, 48 hour nights.
  3. No rolecards will lie. There are no hidden wincons. Any roles or mechanics involving alignment conversion such as Cultists will not be featured.
  4. No knowledge of the play is needed to play the game. Flavour arguments will be useless.
  5. This game's mechanics place heavy emphasis on day mechanics, (possibly) including, but not limited to: voting, lynching, day actions, and day length.
  6. Looking for reviewers, PM me for details.

Closed games that have simple enough mechanics are growing on me. I don't know if you're planning on basing alignment and abilities off of the juror's personalities, but with the role list basically known, scum won't have a lot of claim space if the characters that are inherently villains are the mafia.

There are like 18 different interpretations for every character in the play, so no. Flavour has literally no bearing on any of the game's actual mechanics, and anyone who tries to lynch a Juror over flavour deserves to be found guilty by a bunch of biased middle aged men.

@Lokiben: A flavour disclaimer is already in place.

The 10th Juror is a bitter old man who believes in justice, but is blinded by the views that he's upheld for so long that he can't imagine ever letting go of them. To him, the idea that the boy is innocent violates everything he's been working for his entire life and would force him to realise that his mental dichotomy of "us vs. them" might not be so real after all, and his black and white views of subjects aren't real justice. Near the end of the play he believes in a guilty verdict and doesn't believe all the coincidences and circumstantial evidence should be reason to allow an (in his mind) guilty murderer go free on the streets. To him, he was serving his duty as a jury member.

Also, the 8th Juror broke about 3 laws. Jurors aren't permitted to conduct their own investigations or introduce new evidence, and switchblades are also illegal.

I wrote like 3 different essays for English class about 12 Angry Men all from different arguments and viewpoints, so yeah.

It's pretty cool. One portion of it I can't weigh in on when it comes to balance, but it looks really solid and fun to play.

Change in plans. All current mechanics are being completely revamped.

For those of you who aren't reviewers, feel free to continue normally. Nothing else is being changed, just the mechanics and roles.

Mechanics are done(?).

If anything is horrifying, it's Metrion's fault. All of it. >:O
