Plateau of Fate [Proceeding]

Postby Swordsworth » Mon Nov 09, 2015 9:09 pm

A simmering volcano, and a city built into the cliffside. Many denizens roam about on their daily business. Two in particular are rushing with haste to the city gates, one furtively glancing about, the other solely focused on reaching the target. A spectral hole opens in front of them, and despite their efforts to stop, they tumble in. The hole shuts with a massive 'whoom', and no trace of the two citizens remain.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A peaceful ocean bay, flowing out from a waterfall on a golden beach, and a small village on the water, set with lilypads. Many denizens roam about on their daily business. One trips and tumbles into the water, and another jumps in to save the former. Neither resurface.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A dusty desert, and a village inset with a canyon. A sports game is occurring at the local stadium. One player slides the ball neatly past the goalie into the goal. The goalie sighs, and goes to retrieve the ball. A muffled sound echoes through the tunnel, and the scorer goes to investigate. A sudden earthquake rocks the stadium, and a statue collapses, blocking the goal. Neither of the citizens reappear behind the statue.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An underground cavern, and a city bolted to the ground. All is quiet as a citizen steps out of the 'mayor''s house. As he walks by an alley, something shoots out of it at foot level, and he stumbles in. A distinct 'whoom' is heard, and the citizen does not reappear.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A steaming jungle, and a village in the treetops. It's a windy day, and the citizens stay indoors. Suddenly, a deafening crash is heard as a citizen's house falls apart, and the citizen is neatly tossed off the tree into the jungle below. A search team is assembled, and they proceed to the jungle floor. The search team eventually returns empty handed, but the team's captain is nowhere to be found.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An icy mountain range, and a city set between two glaciers. A lone, brave citizen sets out into the icy wasteland to check his snares. He does not return.
The 'mayor''s aide goes on a trek to a neighbouring to deliver some news. He never arrives.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A remote, bleak isle in the center of a storm-tossed sea, and a small settlement in the center. A large hole opens in the sky, and a variety of people tumble out, some not even from the six known villages.
A voice booms out, "Welcome to the edge of the world. I welcome you all, you who will have an impact on this world, here to this arena. The fate of the world shall be decided...here. Here, and now.

You begin at sundown. Anything goes. Just be civil about it.

With the loss of a species comes the gains of another. You have unlocked new powers.

Good luck.

Welcome to Plateau of Fate! On this bleak, forbidding, rock at the ends of the world, everything shall be won or lost in an innocent game of Mafia. But why play fairly when you have more to offer?

I will be using Guzame's standard rules(viewtopic.php?f=17&t=27296) as well as a brand new mechanic.

This is a semiclosed game.

New feature:

Spoiler: Individuals shall receive standard rolecards with the exception of Brotherhood Head and Neutrals, who will have numerous abilities in a SFM10-esque style. They are open to all and will be in the OP. However, everyone shall also receive a second 'rolecard' outlining a separate ability, also called a Mask. This ability complements your role and behaves as a secondary night/day action, or even as a passive. This second set of cards is closed, except for the names, which exist as a clue to the ability given. It shall also be known that:

1: Not all of the secondaries will be rolled, there's like 50 possible
2: Some secondaries are locked to specific roles(e.g, Brotherhood Head will always possess a specific mask.)
3: Some masks are bound by very strict rules. If you do not follow these rules, you will be booted from the game.

When messaging the Moderator, you must specify which ability you are using(in accordance to the card. If you can only use the ability during the day, DON'T PM ME PHASES AHEAD OF TIME, NO MATTER HOW TEMPTING.)

The secondary rolecards are available upon request.

Heal - Sacrifice life force to save another from all status ailments. Mask goes on cooldown immediately after.

Investigative Results:

Spoiler: Your target owns dangerous weapons! The only ones carrying such ordinance would be a Bo-Matoran, Protocairn, or a Shadow Matoran.

Your target has experienced a miserable past! Meaning they are an Fa-Matoran, Tridax or One's Shadow.
Your target spends most of their time waiting for something to happen! Logically they must be a De-Matoran or Shadow Toa or All-Face.
Your target watches other's meticulously! Meaning they are probably an Onu-Matoran, Ko-Matoran or Maxilos.
Your target changes the way people look at each other! They have to be a Ga-Matoran, Antroz or the Shadowed One.
Your target like to play tricks! Therefore there's a high chance that they are a Su-Matoran or Vamprah.
Your target has many advanced tools and equipment! The likely suspects would be Fe-Matoran, Po-Matoran or Beast
Your target has a blazing passion or determination for something! They must be a Ba-Matoran, Av-Matoran, or Vezon.
Your target is a misfit in the community! Thinking for a while you conclude they must be a Ce-Matoran, Vo-Matoran, or Shifter.
Your target can be anywhere and everywhere! They are no doubt a Le-Matoran or Nivawk!
Your target abides the laws quietly as far as you can tell! Reluctantly you concede they may be a Reconstructed Matoran or Teridax.
Your target has forged documents! They are ???.

Town

Spoiler: Reconstructed Matoran

You are a Reconstructed Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Citizen.

The rebuilding stripped you of your innate talents. But with a mask on, you are no longer quite so helpless.

Each day you get to vote in an attempt to remove the Brotherhood from the community.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Town Power

Av-Matoran

You are the Av-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Power.

Forcibly covered in illusions to hide your identity and power, the time for shying away is over. It's time to face the foes head on!

You have the ability to reveal your true colours, showing everybody who you are and giving you three votes instead of one.
However, doing so will make it impossible for the Fe-Matoran to heal you and you will be a top target for the Brotherhood.
To reveal your role, simply say I am the Av-Matoran! in bold during the daytime, and your Game Moderator will officially reveal your role to the rest of the town.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Vo-Matoran

You are a Vo-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Power.

A former fisherman, your innate powers of lightning have been awakened. Although it'll be tough, you can probably pull together 1 sharp shock to bring someone back from the brink.

You may bring one dead town member back to life.
You may only use this ability once, so use it wisely.
Should you die on the night you decide to bring someone back from the grave, the powers that be have decided to finish the job you started and make sure that he comes back.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Po-Matoran

You are the Po-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Power.

Your innate powers of stone have been awakened, and you've made an impenetrable cell to house those you deem allies of the Brotherhood.

Every night you may choose to jail or execute somebody.
To Jail somebody, you must message your Moderator during the day telling them who you would like to Jail.
If you do not do this before the day is over - you jail no one.
The prisoner will be allowed a 1000 character limit to share a defense with you.
(NOTE: Jailed Mafia will lose the ability to communicate with other Mafia, and they will be unable to see the Mafia Chat.)
If you jail somebody they will be roleblocked and cannot use their night ability, even if they are normally roleblock immune.
However, all night actions fail against your target, unless they are someone with an Investigative night ability.
If you execute somebody, they will be roleblocked and killed. An execution will kill anybody, even roles immune to other forms of night killing.
If you execute a Town member, you can not execute anybody else for the remainder of the game. You will still be able to jail people though.
You can execute up to 3 times.
You can't execute on the first night.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Ko-Matoran

(This role is still in the experimental stages ~ It will not yet appear in Episodes for the time being.)

You are a Ko-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Power.

Your powers of ice have awakened! Known for your ability to deaden conversations, and your fierce reputation of bringing logic to the table, you know you can shepherd things in the right direction.

During the day you may PM the Game Moderator that you wish to activate your power.
If the majority vote is then reached on a player, the Game Moderator will announce that you have entered the gallows.
You can communicate anonymously with the Town via two 1000 character-limit messages for opening/closing arguments.
Within 24 hours, the players must send a vote of /Guilty or /Not Guilty to the Game Moderator.
Your vote counts as two in trials.
During your trials, you may also swap defendants or force a verdict. You may only do each of these once and they can be used together.
At the end of the Trial, regardless of the verdict, the Day Phase will end.
You may do this only 3 times. You can also perform this power on yourself.
The only exception is the lynch of a Jester. This will cause your trial to fail and swapping defendants to a Jester will force them to haunt the Lawyer the next night.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Town Investigative

Ga-Matoran

You are a Ga-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Investigative.

Your innate powers of water have awakened! Although enemies are powerful, they must have had to improvise. You can tell they've painted their disguises on. A little wash will expose them for who they are.

Every night you have the ability to soak one town member to see their true colours.
If your target is a member of the Brotherhood, a Beast, or a One's Shadow you will know.
However, select Brotherhood Heads, the Shadowed One, and the Shifter hide their tracks too well and will appear as not suspicious to you.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Onu-Matoran

You are an Onu-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Investigative.

Your innate powers of earth have awakened, and you are looking for reactions. Not everyone reacts the same to an earthquake.

Every night you have the ability to shake 1 town member to discover their role.
You will always be able to narrow it down to a few roles related to each other, but you won't be completely sure.
However, if it's a Reconstructed Matoran without any special role, you will know it for sure.
You may also discover that a certain character is the ???. (But beware! If somebody is framed, they will also look like the ??? to you, so be careful.)

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

De-Matoran

You are a Lookout.

Your alignment is Town Investigative.

Your innate powers of sound have awakened, including a razor-sharp sense of hearing. While you can no longer enjoy staying up late partying with your friends, you can discern footsteps between people across the town.

You may listen at one person each night.
You will hear who visits that person each night, should someone visit.
You may not watch yourself and you will not know the roles of the visitors, only that they visited.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Le-Matoran

You are a Le-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Investigative.

Your innate powers of Air have awakened, but that's not really all too important. Your talent of essentially flying through the tree and rooftops gives you immense speed and the ability to hear...and follow.

You can choose one player to spy on during the day and hear all whispers that player has sent to others.
You may decide to do this within the first 24 hours of the Day Phase. If you do not do this, you listen to no one during the day.
You also have the ability to see who the Mafia visit at night. You will not know what Mafia role visited which player; all you will know is that they were visited by a member of the Mafia.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Town Protective

Fe-Matoran

You are a Fe-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Protective.

You are this town's doctor, and have kept everybody healthy for years.

You have the ability to visit one person each night. If they are attacked that night, you arrive just in time to save their life.
If your target is attacked, both you and your target will receive a message saying your target was attacked but healed.
You also have 1 self-heal, allowing you to instead save yourself if you are attacked.
You can only use the self-heal once, regardless of if you are attacked or not that night, so use it wisely.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Ba-Matoran

You are a Ba-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Protective.

Your innate powers of gravity have awakened, but it takes great focus to use. You shall plant yourself and the enemy in place, and shatter their heart if you must!

Each night you can choose one player to protect.
If your target is attacked, both you and the attacker die instead.
If you successfully protect someone, you can't be saved from death.
Your counterattack ignores night immunity.
You also have 1 bulletproof vest. If somebody tries to attack you when you wear a bulletproof vest, they will receive a message saying that you were immune.
However, you can only use this vest for one night, so choose wisely.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Ce-Matoran

(This role is still in the experimental stages ~ It will not yet appear in Episodes for the time being.)

You are a Ce-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Protective.

Your innate powers of psionics have awakened in full, although you were created odd with half your potential awakened already. Thus, you've already had practice at unsettling individuals with the power of your mind.

Each night you may choose to follow a player. Your presence scares one malicious person from targeting them.
You will not be informed if you protected your target, but whoever you scare away will be notified.
Should your target be visited by multiple people with malicious intent, only one will flee. (Brotherhood Deception > Escort/Consort > Killing Roles)
However, the Shadowed One and the Beast will ignore your presence since they fear nothing.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Town Killing

Protocairn

You are a Protocairn.

Your alignment is Town Killing.

You were exposed to a volatile chemical and were transformed into...something no longer quite Matoran. But your mind is still sound. With your new talons, you can champion the fight.

Each night you may decide to shoot and kill one town member you believe to be evil.
However, if the person you shoot turns out to be Matoran, you will be overcome with grief and kill yourself the day after the innocent's death is revealed.
You only have 3 bullets, allowing you to perform your night action up to 3 times. Make them count.
You may not shoot on the first night.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Bo-Matoran

You are a Bo-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Killing.

Your innate powers of the Green have been awakened, but it's more of a passive, so it's harder to control. Beautiful yet poisonous, plants of all varieties spring up when you remain still.
This may have its uses.

Going on alert makes you kill anybody who comes to your house that night, both evil and good, so use this power carefully or you will do more harm than good.
This can also kill people who are normally night immune, like the Brotherhood Head, Beast, and Shadowed One.
You are immune to all other harmful night actions while on alert.
You CAN still be affected by Mask powers.
You can go on alert only 3 times throughout the game.
You are immune to being roleblocked.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Town Support

Ta-Matoran

You are a Ta-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Support.

Your innate powers of fire have awoken. However, you have decided to put it to a different use, as your mentor as shown you how to use your flames to communicate with the beyond.

Each night you may ask any dead player a question with a 75 character limit.
The dead player can send you a 150 character answer to the question. They do not have to answer the question, nor tell the truth. However, the answer MUST be relevant only to the question, at the Game Moderator's discretion.
The dead only have until the end of the Night Phase to answer you back.
Dead players being contacted by a Ta Matoran are still permitted to private message other dead players as well.
You may ask three questions each night. They do not have to be to the same person.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Fa-Matoran

You are an Fa-Matoran.

Your alignment is Town Support.

Your innate powers of magnetism have awakened! You enjoy your newfound ability to immobilize people by sticking yourself to them. Unfortunately, you can't move either! Help?

Each night you can choose one player to visit.
You will spend the night with your target, who will be too stuck to use their role that night, effectively roleblocking them.
Your target will be informed that they were roleblocked.
However, if the person you visit turns out to be the Beast, you become the Beast's target instead of their intended target.
You are immune to being roleblocked.

You win with the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill Shifter
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

Su-Matoran

You are a Transporter.

Your alignment is Town Support.

Your innate powers of plasma have awakened, and you've used it to secretly construct a highly advanced underground chute system for fast and silent transportation. Hopefully some good will come of this expenditure.

Every night you may transport two people.
The two people will be notified that they were transported.
Any actions against the two people will be swapped. This includes investigations, killings, and being controlled.
You may transport yourself.
You are immune to roleblocks and being controlled.

The head of the Brotherhood of Makuta, you will stoop to any length to bring down and control the Matoran Universe. No act is too despicable to achieve that goal.

Antidermis- You cannot be killed normally.

False Hope- You may fake your death in the manner of a cleaned player who flips a role.

Last Hope- If you are the last Brotherhood member alive, you shall assume the guise of a "Matoran".

Innocent- You are immune to all investigatives.

You may choose to slow time or speed up time during a day.
You must choose to do so the night before.
At random after 24 hours have passed into the day, the change will take effect.

Their last will will also be revealed to you and hidden from the rest of the town.
It doesn't matter who kills your target or what side your target is on, the only thing that matters is that they die that night for your skill to work.
If your target doesn't die, it will still use up one of your cleanings.
You can only choose to clean a target 3 times during the entire game.
If there are no other kill capable Mafia players left, your role will become that of a Mafioso.
You can communicate with your allies each night, for as long as they are alive.

Your allies are [x] the [role], [x] the [role], and [x] the [role].

You win with the Brotherhood
You win with Shifters
You must kill the Innocents
You must kill The Shadowed One
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else

???

You are Unnamed.

Your alignment is Mafia Deception.

???

Each night you have the ability to frame one player of your choice. If they're inspected by the Sheriff that night, it'll say they're a Mafia member. You may also choose which role they appear as should they be inspected by the Investigator.

Antroz

(This role is still in the experimental stages ~ It will not yet appear in Episodes for the time being.)

You are Antroz.

Your alignment is Mafia Deception.

The tactical expert of the Brotherhood, you succeed best and playing the part and selling it. It's your time to shine.

Every night you may visit two players swapping all of their investigative results. The only investigative role who will not be fooled is the Sheriff, so watch out!
If there are no other kill capable Mafia players left, your role will become that of a Mafioso.

Vamprah

(This role is still in the experimental stages ~ It will not yet appear in Episodes for the time being.)

You are Vamprah

Your alignment is Mafia Deception.

You smile with glee as the light leaves their eyes, their muscles loosen, and they fall into the clutches of darkness. Those that are asleep can dream. But why dream of good when you can dream of something ELSE entirely?

Every night you can choose to target 1 player.
Your target's real night results will be replaced with a false night result of your choosing.
The effect you choose will not actually be done; For example, an investigator pranked into thinking he was roleblocked will still receive night results with clues as to which role his target was. However, he will not know for sure if he slept peacefully.
Other pranks cannot be overwritten and if a player is pranked twice by two pranksters, they will get two messages.
If you are controlled by a witch, you will make your target think they "slept peacefully."
You may only choose to prank a target 3 times the entire game.

Neutrals

Spoiler:
Shifter

You are a Shifter

Your alignment is Neutral Rolemaster

The last of your species, you have a unique ability that got you in this mess. Surviving this ordeal would allow you to escape.

Identification - You will know what roles visit you when they do. Once they have, they are applicable for [Transformation].

Transformation - Shape-shift into and carry out the action of any role that has visited you so far. You will appear as the player that you are emulating to De-Matoran, and you will appear as the role to Onu-Matoran. Ga-Matoran will not be fooled. You pick afresh each night.

You must kill the Shadowed One
You must kill the Matoran
You win with everyone else.

All-Face

You are the All-Face.

Your alignment is Neutral Maskmaster

A natural born trickster, you grew up learning special tricks. You began to covet mask powers, and one in particular. Though how good you are pales in comparison to..that mask.

Mold - You will know what mask powers are used on you when they are.

Trick! - Select a mask that has been used against you along with a target. If the mask is a passive, the passive will last for 2 phases. The maskmold is consumed after usage.

Same, but...? - You are immune to offensive passives emanating from Masks.

You must kill the Matoran
You must kill the One's Shadow
You win with everyone else.

Shadowed One

You are the Shadowed One

Your alignment is Neutral Dark Hunter

You have always had your own agenda in the scheme of the world. This universe shall be yours...by any means...!

Dirty Work - Use one of your underlings to perform the kill. You may only do this twice a game. When you do this, a player at random is seen by De-Matoran instead of you.

Complete Annihilantion - Murder and exhume a target. The body will be cleaned, but will flip a role. Your standard method of killing.

Dark Hunter - You are immune at night, immune to select investigatives, and are immune to certain mask powers.

You must kill the Matoran
You must kill the Brotherhood
You must kill the Beast
You may spare anyone else.

One's Shadow

You are One's Shadow

Your alignment is Neutral Observer

A former Dark Hunter, you nearly faded away. Always watching from below, you look for your chance to spring and regain life.

Soul Thread - You are eyeing [Name]'s soul. Get them dead at night, at all costs.

Soul Eater - If your target dies at night, you will consume their soul and become their role. Your mask shall also power up.

Dissolve - If your target is lynched, you shall also die.

You win with whoever your target wins with, but only once they are murdered.
If they do not die, or are lynched, you will lose.

Beast

You are the dreaded Beast

Your alignment is Neutral Hungry-For-Toast

RAWWWWWWRRRRRRRR! (Translation(not 100% accurate): I want some toast :3)

Mother Tongue - If anyone bears the Mask of Translation, they will instantly become your ally.

Holes >.> - Select a player each night to put a hole in their floor. They will be informed of this.

Toast! - At any time you may force every player into their holes and toast them, but only twice.

Locked Face - You will always have the Mask of Neutral Control.

You must kill everyone.
If a player has the Mask of Translation, they alone are exempt.

I will fix BBCode and flavour later

I have a few reservations about this pitch such as the lack of everything except flavor, but it looks good so far.

Saw the inner workings of this game. Good enough for a yes vote for now. If it needs to be ironed out, that can happened later when it's more polished, but for now it looks solid -- and it looks like it'll be getting better, too.

- Mask mechanic looks cool and fun
- Rolelist looks balanced
- The Neutral roles look interesting
- Cow has approved of the inner workings, which I cannot judge

One question: the Beast has different colors in the rolelist and some of the rolecards. Is it relevant to the game?

Looks really good. I have a couple of questions though:
1) can One's Shadow have only town as a target or do they get a random player in the game?
2) I don't understand how Makuta Teridax's 'False Hope' and Matoran's 'The Finale' work.

1) Town or Mafia.
2) False Hope relates to how The Shadowed One kills. If you are killed by the Shadowed One, you will flip your role, but your mask and will are cleaned.

The alignments the various neutrals win with seems a bit off. The Shifter has to kill the Shadowed One, but the Shadowed one doesn't have to kill the Shifter? Also, would the Beast have to kill the Shifter?

This is intentional.

Also, the Beast must kill EVERYONE.

In that case, wouldn't the other neutrals also have to kill the beast? Or does it mean the game would just end with the Beast alive, yet defeated?

If it's the Shifter and Beast left, then yes.

So on and so forth with any role that does not mention the Beast.

Mask mechanics look fun, role list looks fairly balanced, overall looks like a decent game to play(even it's a partially closed game, and I don't like closed games lol)
