game goes all gray after choosing a role

hey, my steam version of the game is virtually unplayable since every game, after it selects a role, 97% of the screen goes gray.i can still send messages and interact with the game as normal, but there's no visuals. i am also able to hear all the audio. this has been happening ever since i purchased the steam version of the game.
