Can you explain what you hope to accomplish when claiming a role that is not your own as VIP?

It confuses the coven. For example, the meta is for psychic to be protected by trapper (when not VIP). So coven might try to send a visiting non-killing role to a psy claim to break the "trap", when it reality they'd get killed by a crusader.

Claiming to be a role you are not could/will get the real owner of that role lynched instead.

Any strategy can backfire. It's not against the rules and it's not gamethrowing.

I would not call this a valid strategy, though. Claiming a role you are not as VIP gets the real owner of the role lynched instead.

There's nothing in the rules about only using "valid" strategies.

Nah bro, you intentionally claimed a role you knew someone else would have, and immediately tried to kill the first counter-claim knowing they'd be Town and tried to say they weren't claiming when they clearly did a few times. That's black and white gamethrowing.
