What is GrandChase Classic?

Spoiler: In short, Grand Chase was a platform fighter MMORPG. like Super Smash Bros., Brawlhalla, Rivals of Aether, Or Elsword. In fact, it was made by the same company that made Elsword, long before Elsword. In this game, you can choose between 20 characters with unique playstyles.

Like Elsword, your characters have levels, and they can level up by dungeon grinding ( don't worry, it's super easy that you can basically solo your way up to endgame! ), or you can play PvP matches with other players!

There is also a Job System akin to other MMORPGs where the characters have multiple jobs that either enchances their playstyle, or even have an entirely new playstyle.

The original Grand Chase was closed around 2015, but in 2021 they re-released the game under the name "Grand Chase Classic", with most of the features from the original game. Currently there's only 7 characters available from all 20 characters, but they are planning on re-balancing the rest of the characters and then adding them into the game.

GrandChase Classic revolves around Grand Chase, a group of people who gathered on a quest to defeat the evil queen Kaze'Aze, who used her magic powers to cause a civil war between the neighboring kingdoms of Kanavan and Serdin. You get to play as members of the Grand Chase and some other people who's either an ally that's not a Grand Chase member, or other people who are closely related to Grand Chase.

GrandChase Classic is available on Steam for free!

History

Spoiler: Grand Chase (Korean: 그랜드체이스, lit. 'Grand Chase') was a free-to-play, two-dimensional side-scrolling MMORPG, developed by the South Korean company KOG Studios. The game initially launched for South Korea in 2003. After becoming a large success, the game expanded to most of Asia, the Americas and Europe. Grand Chase broke the record of most played online game on Brazil and earned the "most popular online game" award in Indonesia in 2011.

The game was closed on 2015, in favor of maintaining its spiritual successor, Elsword. On the same year, They released a mobile game spinoff of the game,GrandChase M, developed by Davinci Games. They also promised that a whole new grand chase game is being developed by KOG studios and is going to be released in the near future. in 2018, An official sequel of the game was made, named Grand Chase: Dimensional Chaser, while a spinoff was also made, with the name of Kurtzpel.

On June 30th, 2021, KOG decided to re-release the original game under the name "Grand Chase Classic" on steam, with CBT registration going on right now and the CBT starting presumably about august.

How to Play

Spoiler: Getting started:
to start the game, click any of free character slot and select any character. at default you'll have 4 but they are giving more slots as more characters are released.

1.) Controls
Here's the default controls. they're fully cuztomizable, and you can technically use 3rd party controllers. it's unfortunately pretty jank support, though, so i'd advise against controllers.
  • Arrow keys = move
  • Z = Attack.
  • X = Special Commands (depends on characters)
  • C = Special Commands (depends on characters) / use PvP items (PvP only)
  • V = Taunt
  • Left Shift = Use pet attacks
  • Ctrl = Swap weapons
  • Space = Ability Switch (depends on characters)
  • 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 = Emoticon Bind Keys
  • Q, W, E, R, and T = Item Bind Keys (Dungeon only)
  • A, S, D, F, and G = Special Attacks Shortcuts

1a.) advanced commands:
This is your HUD.
Image

  • the upmost bar is your chat bar. press enter to start typing, and press enter again to send message.
  • The red gauge displays your HP, and the blue gauge displays your mana. each bar on that blue gauge represents 1 bar of super. You can restore HP by using consumable items, and you can restore mana by using costumable items, and attacking enemies.
  • if you hold your attack button (Z by default), a white gauge will fill up to the blue gauge. If you release the button whenever the white gauge goes over the bars, they will do skills for respective costs. It has no cooldown. alternatively, you can press the shortcut button for each supers [that's A, S, D, F, and G] , at the cost of having a cooldown for that shortcut.
  • the purple gauge represents pet attack gauge. when it's full, you can press left shift to make them attack.
  • the big numbers represent your PvP items. it drops randomly and when you have them, press C to use it. you can also press N to toggle through multiple items.
  • on top of this, you can also bind dungeon-only consumable items with [Q, W, E, R, and T], and you can bind emoticons with [1, 2, 3, 4, and 5].
  • at higher levels, you can complete a mission to unlock a sub weapon slot. you can press [ctrl] to swap between weapons.
  • some characters have their own special commands, but we'll talk about them later.

Who to Play?

Spoiler:

There's only 7 available characters currently, but they will update to include all 20 characters. and with most of them having 4 different jobs, that bumps it up to about 50+ unique playstyles.
In general, the characters are divided into 3 types: MP characters, AP characters, and Action-Mana Point ["Hybrid"] Characters.

MP characters uses "Mana Points" which they can use to do special attacks. only have 4 levels of skills and restore mana by attacking, or using potions.

AP characters use "Action Points" instead of mana points. instead of recovering through attacks, Action points constantly restores itself at a slow rate. however, you can still use mana potions to restore your AP. AP characters are able to have more techniques that they can bind and unbind freely to the 5 super shortcuts [A, S, D, F, and G], and they mostly cost less than MP characters, but they're only able to use the shortcut button for it.

Action-Mana Point ["Hybrid"] Characters combines both MP and AP mechanic; they use mana points, can hold [Z] to use skills, and restore mana by attacking, but they also have techniques to bind over [A,S,D,F, and G] like AP characters.

MP characters:

Elesis Sieghart
Image

Spoiler:

The acting leader of Kanavan's Ruby Knights, who took the place after the old captain, who's also her own father, Elscud Sieghart, went missing on his mission to track down Kaze'Aze. she joins the Grand Chase in order to find her father.

With her large health pool and her super armor, Elesis is your go-to tank. she has fast attacks and decent mobility, but her glaring weakness is that her attacks range are short compared to other characters.

Her jobs in order are:
Knight [base/1st job] > Spearman [2nd job] > Swordmaster [3rd job] > Savior [4th Job].

Lire Eryuell
Image

Spoiler:

As a representative of Eryuell Island's Elven Corps, she joins the Chase to investigate Kaze'Aze and return peace for the island.

as the only archer of the group, she has the longest range for her attacks, and rapid arrows. she can attack enemies off-screen, but on the flip side you have to actually aim your shots with the only cue being enemy markers. her main weakness is her weak mobility.

Her jobs in order are:
Archer [base/1st job] > Crossbowman [2nd Job] > Arch Ranger [3rd Job] > Nova [4th Job]

Arme Glenstid
Image

Spoiler:
A magician from Serdin's Violet Mage guild. After hearing about Kaze'Aze's magic prowess, she wants to meet Kaze'Aze directly.

As a magician, she has 2 sets of skills: she has her "Black Magic", and "White Magic". The black magic mostly consist of damaging AoE, while her white magic mostly consists of buffs and debuffs. you can press [X] to toggle between her magic. This, coupled with her mana absorb, skill charging, and mana restore, makes her one of the best skill spammer in the game. If you stand still for about 3 seconds, she starts to restore her mana at a faster rate, and you can cancel it by pressing anything. Just like elesis, she has fast normal attacks and decent mobility, with her only weakness being short range normal attacks.

Her Jobs in order are:
Magician [1st Job] > Alchemist [2nd Job] > Warlock [3rd job] > Battle Mage [4th Job]

Lass Isolet
Image

Spoiler:
A thief from Ellia's Silver Cross guild. After being freed from Kaze'Aze's mind control, he decided to join the chase to atone for his sins.

High mobility, fast attacks, and high-damaging skills. his only weakness are short skill range.

His Jobs in order are:
Thief [1st Job] > Assassin [2nd Job] > Dark Assassin [3rd Job] > Striker [4th Job]

Ryan Woodguard
Image

Spoiler:
A druid that protects the elf forest. Joins the chase in order to stop the war that Kaze'Aze ignited.

As a druid, he can transform into various forms for a duration. in order to transform, you press [space] and your 1st skill will change into transformation skill. then, you can activate that skill to transform for a certain duration. Ryan's other form generally has higher speed and faster attacks than normal Ryan.

His Jobs in order are :
Druid [1st Job] > Sentinel [2nd Job] > Viken [3rd Job] > Vanquisher [4th Job]

Ronan Erudon
Image

Spoiler:
A member of Kanavan's Royal Knights. Joins the chase to end the war.

Ronan is like a mix of Elesis and Arme. As a spell knight, he has his own swordmanship skills on top of magic skills, which, like arme, he can toggle with x. his special ability is his "Erudon weapon" upgrade, in which he has a new bar that when filled, you can use by pressing [up]+[c] to upgrade your weapons' attacks with unique properties.

His jobs in order are :
Spell Knight [1st job] > Dragon Knight [2nd Job] > Aegis Knight [3rd Job] > Abyss Knight [4th job]

Amy Plie
Image

Spoiler:
An Oracle and an idol from the Silver Land. Joins the chase because her patron god needed help from the chase to get away from Ascendant God's control.

Amy is a stance character. she has 2 stances: her performance stance and her fighting stance. in Performance stance, she has generally slower, ranged attacks and focuses buffs/debuffs as her skills, while her fighting stance is generally faster but focuses on shorter attacks.

Her jobs in order are:
Dancer [1st Job] > Muse [2nd Job] > Siren [3rd Job] > Starlet [4th job]

Jin Kaien
Image

Spoiler:
Silver Land's last living Silver Knight. Joins the chase to avenge the Silver Knights.

As a fighter, he has fairly high mobility and powerful attacks, but his attack range are shorter than most people.

On top of that, he has another bar called the "Ki" bar below his MP. you can charge his "Ki" by holding the [x] button, and you can spent your "Ki" bar to enchance your attacks and special attacks. if you charge the bar fully, you can go into "burning" mode in which your "ki" bar rapidly decreases, but until it's empty, you can use your enchanced attacks without any costs.

but more importantly, he does have a DP, a projectile attack, and a tatsu. so maybe we should ask the most important question.
Is Jin... a Shoto?

His jobs in order are:
Fighter [1st Job] > Champion [2nd Job] > Asura [3rd Job] > Rama [4th Job]

Ercnard Sieghart
Image

Spoiler:
The Legendary Gladiator of Kanavan. Joins the chase to avenge the Highlanders.

Sieghart is like a mix of Elesis and Jin. His jobs are very similar to Elesis’, but like Jin, he has a “Rage Bar” under his MP bar. The Rage bar works almost Like Jin’s “Ki Bar” except you can’t charge the bar, and that the bar can be filled by attacking, or be attacked, on top automatically filling itself at a slow rate.

As a Gladiator, Sieghart is decently mobile and have decent attack range, but his weakness is that his special attacks are generally shorter.

His Jobs in order are:
Gladiator > Warlord > Duelist > Prime Knight

Mari Ming Ornette
Image

Spoiler:
An Amnesiac who lost memories of her past. Being a naturally curious person, she found Sieghart’s skills fascinating, and that led her to join the Chase.

As a Rune Caster, she can use her magic to attack and summon various gadgets that aids her in battle.

Generally, her attacks are long ranged and is relatively powerful, but her weakness is her low mobility and her slow gadget setup.

Her jobs in order are:
Rune Caster > Duelist > Polaris > Geas

Uno
Image

Spoiler:
Born from the blood of Highlanders that were annihilated by Astaroth. He is instinctively heading towards Sieghart.

Being the latest character that was released, he is significantly more advanced than most of the characters. As a Bloodless, he has blood orbs that he can gain from doing certain attacks, and it can be used to enhance his attacks.

He has very high mobility, fast attacks, and decent power. he doesn't really have apparent weakness other than his lack of skills to choose from.

His jobs in order are:
Bloodless

AP characters
Dio Burning Canyon
Image

Spoiler:
A demon from the Underworld. When dimension portals leading to Aernas suddenly appeared, he came to investigate.

Generally, Dio's Skill tree is divided into two separate paths: The [Devil Force] Path and the [Weapon Force] Path. The [Devil Force] Path is more focused on Dungeon climbing with AoE damages, while the [Weapon Force] path is more focused on PvP battles, with faster attacks but less AoE damages. It should also be noted that while you can technically learn skills from both paths, your skill points won't be enough to learn all skills from both paths.

His jobs in order are:
Stygian > Drakar > Leviathan > Dusk Bringer

[...the rest of the characters would be added when they are released and/or if I bothered to add them here]

How should i play?

Spoiler: will be added soon
