I was vet and had used 2 alerts until the final night in which the spy was killed by the witch and witch was killed by the werewolf. I was still alive at the end of that night and when day came the summary came and the werewolf had won even though I still had an alert left. Is this supposed to happen? Because I still could have alerted the next night.

There is a mechanic in the game known as the Stalemate detector. It comes in and ends the game early if there is a situation were the game will never end and gives the win to someone (Eg. Mafioso and Escort alive, Mafia wins. Mafioso and Transporter alive, Town wins. Godfather and Transporter alive, Mafia wins).

In this case, there is absolutely no chance for Town to win. Even if you successfully kill the Werewolf with your alert, you still die in the process. Therefore the game automatically lets the Werewolf win, as it is the only role with a chance to win in that situation. This is not the case with Serial Killer and Arsonist, as you can kill either of them and still live and win the game for Town.
