Unable to play

While trying to play a round with friends, two of my friends had issues playing and the game kept saying they had to pay to play while for the others including myself can play for free. How can we play for free while our friends can not?

The game went pay2play in November 2018, all active account that existed that time were allowed to continue to play without upgrading their account to a premium status, inactive account and those that were created aftwards have to pay in order to play.
