First of all, a very good way of learning is watching better people play. If you have time, you should check some ToS youtubers, who will show you what to do and what not to do. Here is a thread with some reccomendations. If you want to focus on playing as evil, I think IRepptar is pretty good, since he actually really enjoys being mafia. People say HollytheMayor is also very good, although I don't watch her as much. She made a pretty cool mafia guide for ranked, which you can check here. Speaking of mafia guides, a very good guide I read a long time ago was Elastoid's guide to mafia wins. It's probably dated in some aspects, but you should still check it.
My advice is to never lock yourself up in a claim in ranked. You shouldn't "always claim X as Y role". Instead, you should check what other people are claiming. If there are lots of TI claims, you won't want to claim that. If no one is claiming TP, it might be a good idea to do it. If you are mafia, you should coordinate so each of you claims a different slot, so you don't end up counter claiming each other. This isn't easy, since most TS roles are hard to fake. So you might have 2 mafia members counterclaiming each other.
Ideally you wan't to coordinate your claims with other mafia by night 1, but you can keep several fake wills of different slots so you can claim the best role in every situation. You should also keep a will of the role within your investigative results, but only use it if you suspect you were already investigated. Having multiple fake wills is especially good if you are NK, but keep in mind that if there is a lot of claiming day 2 and you don't counter claim, you will look really suspicious later.
You shouldn't feel obligated to claim within your invest results. Instead of claiming doc as sk, why don't you claim bg? Or trapper? If people see someone claiming doctor in a game with SK kills, they will assume the doctor is sk. The same will happen if you claim bg as arso or sheriff as ww. You should be more creative. If you are active enough in the chat and claim your role early, investigators won't check you. Even if they do, you can push them because "why would they check someone who has already claimed instead of a quiet nonclaimer?".
My general opinion about good claims is:
-Gf and NK are especially good for claiming TK or ret since they can't be killed by their counterclaim. I guess gf can also claim psychic or trapper in coven, in case they are tracked. Although they shouldn't be tracked in the first place if they look townie enough. Claiming TI, and TP for arsos, also works.
-Framers, disguisers, forgers, hex masters and maybe potion masters (I don't really know much about coven) are good for claiming TP, since they can visit whoever asks for protection d1 and by confirmed by lookouts and trackers. If there is a spy they might get in trouble, but they would be in a way bigger problem if they hadn't visited the tp ask anyway, since the spy would be able to confirm every visitor as not mafia, provided there is a lookout.
-Other mafia roles can claim TI. Blackmailers are especially good at claiming lookout, since they can write a proper will by reading whispers. Another easy claim is investigator. Just say you investigated another mafia member n1 and post their results (ask them what they are claiming first, so you don't end up in a 1 for 1 against them). After that, you can pick dead people or other mafia. You can also said you visited a jailed mafia member.
-Any mafia role can claim TS, but this will need special coordination from their team.
-If you are jailed n1 you can claim TP or lookout, since you won't be expected to be on jailor n1 anyway.
-NEVER claim within your investigative results if you are consort, hypnotist or janitor. If you are janitor, people will just assume you are janitor as soon as you claim medium. If you are consort or hypnotist, you can easily be called out by a spy pointing out all your targets were visited by mafia. Even if there is no spy, a decent town would suspect a consort who roleblocks potential townies instead of suspicious people, or a trans that only transes himself with others in coven. Claiming within your results as other mafia roles is doable, but be wary of spies.
If there is a fellow mafia claiming TI, you should look for a way to confirm each other. If the mafia doesn't coordinate, they will lose.
Regarding your strategy of claiming doc as sk and then staying home, I don't think it is a very good idea in ranked. If there is only one kill per night, town will have a lot less of pressure and will have plenty of time to find the mafia. After that, finding you will be very easy. I don't know about how useful this strat is in all any, but if I were a kingmaker I would never side with a silent NK, since I would feel they didn't contribute enough to their win.
Another basic but fundamental concept is being able to notice when town lost mayority. If the amount of mafia+coven+neutrals is equal or greater than the amount of townies, no one who isn't town must vote, to prevent town from lynching. This guarantees town loses unless they have a mayor. If there is only 1 more townie than not townies, then it's the perfect moment to push a misslynch. This is mentioned in the video I linked. After town loses mayority, you can even kill the jailor without being scared of the lookouts, if you haven't taken him down yet.
You should always try to misslynch townies if you have the opportunity. If someone is being vfr'ed and they claim a taken slot without having cc'ed before, push guilty and hope other maf does the same. Even after the person is found out to be town, the rest of the town will blame them for playing bad rather than blaming you.
You shouldn't be afraid to inno fellow evils eithers. If you see the chance, just do it. Saying "inno" in the chat multiples times might help. Of course, this is riskier since it may reveal your whole team if it fails. Only do so if you have a reasonable argument to defend your teammate.
Those are some basic things I can think of. Of course, there are lots of specifiq tips depending of your role. I hope my format wasn't too messy.
