This strategy revolves around important/self-confirming town roles coming out every day or two and is made a whole lot easier with the current jailor meta. Claim bodyguard, and every time an important town role comes out, douse them. Put in your will that you were guarding them. It's made even easier with mayors and retributionists, as they create situations where it would make sense for a bodyguard to move off the jailor and onto the mayor/revived townie. There's something to be said about how ironic it is that self-confirming town roles cause such a problem with most evil roles, especially with the jailor meta, but an arsonist with a bit of luck on their side can use these powerful town roles to quickly turn the game in their favor. Probably the most important part of this strategy is the timing of your ignition. It's an unfortunately common mistake among arsonists to ignite too early, as that confirms your presence and puts suspicion onto people who claim doctor, sheriff, or bodyguard, among other visiting roles that often visit different people. Of course, in a ranked game, the lack of NK kills for more than two nights makes everyone suspect an arsonist is afoot, but if you play your cards right you can get a win. Personally, I tend to ignite when the mafia loses two or three members since igniting with too many mafia alive could mean that you give the mafia the majority and they are able to quickly identify and lynch you. Killing off pretty much all of the important town roles in one night can be one of the most satisfying things about playing as arsonist, and you're likely to end up in a kingmaker situation with town and mafia. Of course, since it's ranked, the kingmaker is likely to give you the win since arsonist wins are somewhat rare, but you never know what they will pick. You might also end up in a situation where the town still has majority (usually the result of a transporter and mayor), which might cost you the win, but if you still play your cards right, you can potentially deceive and convince the town that you had doused someone who died the previous night and get them to lynch the mafia, when in fact you had doused the mayor.
This strategy led me to two arsonist wins in a row in ranked, so I'm pretty happy with it.

There are two problems here:
1. Town will know there is an arso by D3 the latest, so all bg claims are automatically suspicious
2. Doesn't work if a power role dies (i.e. you'll have to explain away not guarding them) - not to mention if you claim TP, it may or may not rouse suspicion that you're still alive after an X number of days

what 3cheers said, but add the fact that mafia are also trying to kill the power roles fast, so all your douse victims could be killed early, and you end up late game with no one doused or maybe 1 or 2 doused

Strategy is situational. I would say it should be good when Town lynches are on point. But no idea how to avoid cross-killing in that case. I usually douse low priority targets for Mafia like Jailor (because of tp) and Veteran (because of risk)

Arso is very strong in current meta, maybe even stronger than SK.

The best arsonist strategy is just to douse Jailor N1 ignite N2 then douse 2 mafia and ignite. You also need to keep town and maf at close numbers...

Now with the buffs to Arso, it actually makes sense to ask for TPLO D1 and then claim Invest.

Meanwhile, douse other TPLO claim.

Pick a random target, then ask them to claim in whispers. Put that down as the result you got. Afterwards, just mix your results with your doused and some dead, and you have a semi-credible will.

Also, try to find Mafia quickly. This is good sense for an NK, but also is useful for trying to bait visits. Try to attack hard once you're out, not taking no for an answer if you've "found" a "confirmed" Mafia member. You're trying to bait a few visits on you.

If one of the killing Mafia is dead, get the Jailor to jail someone else if you were attacked last night. There's a good chance you get stood up and hung if a death note communicates this info.

Ignite N3 without fail. If all goes well, you'll have some TI, a TP, the Mafioso, and Jailor dead.

Afterwards, just work towards thinning up the Mafia and dousing dangerous Town roles.

If you're lucky, you can isolate:
- Any one TI
- Doctor
- Vigilante
- Escort
- Mayor
- Medium
- Any one Mafia

and then either obstruct justice or just ignite repeatedly. After all, you're basically a Veteran with stronger attacks if you ignite.


The entire purpose of this new "Arsonist Meta" is to vet bait. If you're good at that, then you're good at Arson, probably. Just don't talk too much, and don't stay silent.
