Yeah if you do that you're a borderline troll and just a bad, flawed player. For example some people try to claim Sheriff and give false results on a player to "see their reaction" well guess what? Every single time they're just gonna call you exe unless they're a bad player as well so I don't get what you're trying to do here. Yeah if you try fake claiming as townie don't even try to act like it's a legitimate strategy, either be open about the fact you're trolling or don't do it at all... Unless you're vet and trying to bait...

Well I've seen some people with Important roles (Jailor/Vigilante/Veteran/Retri/And TI sometimes) Claim VH, Surv, or Amne so they hope to avoid attack. It works most of the time actually. If you're playing against a smart mafia, they won't attack VH or Survivor. It's kinda spotty for Amnesiac, but Amne claims need to be at the right time because mafia expects open Amne claims to become Town. So maybe claim Amne in late game with a mafia or two dead.

In low elo I used to claim sheriff as transporter. You transport yourself with a guy. If they claim transported you claim transported as well. If they don't you claim sheriff with red check on them. Somehow works, I do that only in games where people are passive.

Fake claiming can be essential, nothing wrong with it. Dying Vig, hidden mayor, hidden ret, baiting vet, baiting TPs, baiting Transporters. As long as someone like the Jailor knows you are doing it then it's fine.

I don't see an issue with say for example med fpsing a sheriff claim as a reaction test. Thinking outside of the box is a good way to catch scum off guard.

Acidicbreeze your strategy is ranked practice tier, if you try doing anything like that in ranked like my original post says you're borderline trolling. If you take a look at my example game in my post about numerical VFR and you tried to use that trolly strategy there you would upset the game and potentially cost town the game as well...

I would have to disagree. Theres many reasons to lie during VFR depending on the role list. Witch game? - why not claim TP as escort and get the witch to make you RB maf when vigi is told to shoot them? (It gonna fill that RT slot either way) why not claim Vet as vigi? Why not claim medium as Ret or Mayor? Why not claim Doc, as BG in an arso game? Or BG as doc in an SK game?

I have even claimed arso, as vet, just to bait the witch, usually resulting in a dead witch XD

In Ranked, fakeclaiming in certain situations is pretty viable. Mayor/Retributionist claiming Medium works well, because you can easily confirm yourself when you need to, and you are still claiming within your Town Support slot. The advantage of deterring evils from attacking you is definitely worthwhile (although some evils will see through your strategy and kill you from the get-go). Vigilante can fakeclaim Veteran and vice versa to deter/bait the Mafia/Witch, and it fits with your Town Killing slot. These strategies are pretty well-known, which can effect their utility, but they can be effective nonetheless.

This is an example of what I would generally consider to be a bad fakeclaim. The benefit here is that you can gain some information from their reaction, and if they have a weak claim/will/scummy demeanour you can push for an easy lynch. The problem I see with this strategy is it has a lot of potential to backfire if you accuse a townie. You're going to look extremely scummy if the Town believes them, and Medium is in itself a weak claim. And if the Town doesn't believe them, even worse. This strategy could work really well for say, Mayor, as you always have your reveal as a safety net. That allows for your scumreading without the drawbacks.


My ranked plays are pretty rusty though so take with a pinch of salt.

They were referring to the Witch controlling GF into themself, not the vetbait. You're correct that Veteran can kill Witch through their mystical barrier.
