Is claiming vig as SK really work or just a very good luck?

Postby LoneMafioso » Sat Aug 17, 2019 4:00 am

Once I was SK, I tried to claim as vig on trial to test out if it's work or not. Resulting in a win for me and many SK games later on.
Is this really recommended to claim or it's just ppl not being noticing it was maf claim as well?

An advantage of SK claiming vigi is that if they make you shoot each other with an actual Vigi, you live for one night and can push on the actual vigi saying they are immune, but they might also just lynch you, thinking you are a Mafioso or something.

Depends less on the role you claimed but more on how you used it. For instance, I claim Lookout as evil sometimes and when I make really convincing wills I would win compared to less convincing wills which are more suspicious.

This.

Vigi isn't an ideal claim against good players, or in a semi-fixed roleset like Ranked. Sooner or later you're going to be asked to prove yourself, and it's next to impossible to get confirmed as Vigi if you're not. It's also a likely role on the Mafia forced claim list, so again - not ideal.

Generally speaking, if you're forced to claim in the Ranked list then Sheriff, Investigator, Medium and Veteran will generally be your most flexible options. You ideally want to strike a balance that leads to both Town and Mafia leaving you alone, so high priority Mafia targets like Lookout, Retri, Escort, etc. will usually lead to the Mafia discovering your night immunity even if you do fool the Town.

Falling into the situationally good category are:

Mayor/Retri claiming Medium - that can be a plausible "get out of jail free" card if the Jailor is otherwise suspicious of your TS claim, and you really need to buy yourself one more night with the Jailor down.

Vigilante - if you know who has night immunity from a failed attack and can plausibly frame the Godfather, Executioner or Witch.

Executioner - never, EVER openly claim this to Town in a fixed rolelist, but if you get attacked early by the Mafia then suddenly acting like a plausible Exe gives you cover for your immunity, and makes them more likely to leave you alone to disrupt the Town...presuming your target isn't one of the Mafia.

You should never claim Doctor as SK unless an Investigator or Consigliere has openly shared your results, or you have good reason to believe a confirmed Town member may have been given them.
