Fake Claiming a TS role

Postby foggyartsit3 » Mon Jan 14, 2019 8:13 pm

Town support slots are often considered "high risk, high reward" for fake claiming, I merely wish to voice my opinions on the matter considering it has worked out well for me in past games.

The 5 town roles in the town support category are (from hardest to claim to the easiest) Mayor, Transporter, retributionist, medium, escort. While they all have their own distinct advantages, they are all situational and require proper gamesense, advanced manipulation of trust, and most importantly supporting evidence

Mayor: this should almost never be claimed, as more aggressive/ high elo towns in the late game will force a mayor to reveal seconds after claiming, but it can still be used. It might be beneficial to claim mayor as a consig/PB if all TI/RT slots are filled and you are pushed on by an invest, or if a known doctor is in the game and it is unlikely that there is another TP. the first strategy will buy you a day at best as you will have to compete for the TS slot with another-easily confirmable- TS. The second strategy has much more flexibility while still keeping the spot light on you, it's fairly easy to divert suspicion early on with this claim, but as leads run dry or the town gets desperate this claim might run thin, using this claim is again, only very useful for a few days at best, if you have value to provide or are close to winning the game (while allowing town the illusion of a chance) this is a viable strategy.

Transporter: I use this claim quite often as it can get you out of a jam quickly, this claim similar to the jailor claim. is highly suspicious but if pulled off will allow for you to contribute quite a bit. The transporter claim can be used if you suspect that enough attention has been directed towards you to warrant a TI's checking, Claiming transporter should be done BEFORE a TI posts their results as claiming transporter after being accused is about as effective as saying "No U". redirecting a TI's results will usually work if it's done onto someone the town already finds suspicious, and will buy you a day or two, this strategy probably won't work if the town already has reason to suspect you in which case a real transporter would've let the TI investigate. Transporter can also be used to confirm allies (mafia or coven) as claiming to transport someone killed by mafia and a member of your own mafia will not only add validity to your claim since you are supplying the town with information, but it will also "confirm" a member of your mafia that would be indistinguishable from the truth as long as a lookout didn't witness it. Claiming transporter as witch is another viable way to use spread false information. claiming transporter and saying that you transported someone who died to a mafia attack with yourself is a good way to announce your presence to the mafia and is slightly more covert than claiming spy and posting fake wills, you can then support your claim by pretending to transport dead people, yourself and members of the mafia.

Retributionist: This role is similar in effect to claiming mayor but significantly easier as there is no way to confirm yourself while on the stand so claiming this in a situation where the town isn't too hostile towards you is a near guaranteed way to gain one more night as a jailor wont jail you/escort wont RB you if they think it's a possibility that you are telling the truth. However, this claim is different from claiming mayor in that it will ONLY buy you one night as after that night is up the town is very unlikely to allow you a second night. It might be possible to hold off the town by claiming that a consort visited you/you are waiting for a priority target but more aggressive towns are unlikely to believe this.

Medium: because of how easy this claim is to fake many low elo towns might lynch you based on this claim accompanied by minor suspicion. this town support role is fairly straightforward in it possible uses; as a "medium" you may provide false information for framing a townie/casting light suspicion, get off the stand with a proper list of information the dead would likely wish to convey(but with minor implications as to not bring suspicion to your not bringing it to the town's attention), for saving a teammate's life by supporting their claim with the graveyard's information, or communicating discretely with the mafia by announcing something they would know is false.

Escort: also pretty straightforward as it is only really claimed in three scenarios, in endgame to outright deny someone else's claim, to assert yourself as a prominent voice in the town (recommended for consorts only) or to deflect suspicion from another mafia (or coven member) by claiming they were unable to do "insert mafia/coven action"

this is only a rough draft without any real editing, as it serves mostly to voice my opinions/share strategies rather than a more professional, thought out piece.
this is a basic outline for fake claiming as town support and can be reinterpreted to fit many more scenarios, obviously this isn't every possibly fake claim for TS as how could I hope to climb if I share all of my secrets publicly.
I wrote this hoping that my evil bois got a little bit smarter in taking down the clearly overpowered townies. Good luck all, best luck to the poor NK's who already had it pretty rough. :D

living your best life despite knowing that your life couldn't have unfolded any other way is the most effective condemnation of the nature of reality. Done by complying with it in its entirety. Be your best self, you don't have a choice either way.

This is an evil guide on how to not die in that dark cell, while being screamed at by the man with a gun more powerful than all the body armor a mob boss could buy. Another layer of Kevlar won't save you, but pretending that you are an escort confirmed via a dead sheriff's will statistically raises your odds of survival. Slightly.

I heard fake claiming as town? It CAN be useful and I would give some info, but I really can't think of anything when I'm not in the situation. It's really something that has a very slim line of use.

I mean, I understand that it's a thick wall of text but to clarify, this is not fake claiming AS town, this is a guide on fake claiming a town support slot.
