Gossip (Town Investigative)

Role Name: Gossip

Role Alignment: Town Investigative

Abilities:

Each night, you may select one role slot in the rolelist. You will learn who the player occupying that role slot visited that night.

Attributes:
  • You will receive the same results as a Tracker would have received when visiting that player.
  • Since you target a role slot rather than a player, this is not a visiting role.
  • If you select an Any role slot, you will also be told which general alignment that role slot was rolled as (Town, Mafia, Coven or Neutral)

Notifications:

(Tracker messages)
"This person is a member of the [Town/Mafia/Coven]" or "This person is neutral" (if you selected a role slot listed as Any)

Goal: (Town goal and win conditions)

Special Attributes:
Attack: None
Defense: None

Investigator Results:
Sheriff - Innocent
Investigator - (Escort resultset)
Consigliere - Your target has an ear to rumors in the town. They must be a Gossip.

Additional Information:

I recently proposed a spy rework that completely changed the Spy role. After further consideration, I'm reposting the same concept as a new role idea instead of a Spy replacement.

This is really interesting. I could see it being really powerful in terms of confirming people who have claimed. Like, if a Sheriff claims to check #2 day 2, and then the next night you see who one of the TIs visit, and they visit 4, and then the Sheriff claims to visit 4, that would probably hard clear them. Still though, seems fun.

I think if a Framer frames somebody, and the Gossip checks their role/alignment on the list to see who they visit, they should appear to visit somebody that they didn't actually visit. If Framer had the ability to choose a second target for those kind of things, it could be that.

Although I don't really get the name, I would probably change it to "Detective" or something, considering that was the old name for Tracker before it got added to the game, and this is able to track the roles in the role list.

Good role

It has an RNG element which I'm not super happy about.

I see it personally as a but underpowered but I think testing will show whether or not it's a good role.

What RNG? Do you mean the randomness of "which player is in which role slot"? That's part of the randomness during game setup, not an RNG element of this role.

Other than what I said in my first post, I think if this role tracks an RT spot, they should see what sub alignment fills that spot, so that it isn't so weak when tracking them.

Oh, maybe. It's frozen for the TG voting for now, but that's definitely a possibility if it scores "more edits".

Just to clarify, since I've seen some confusion about this:

This role does not treat dead players any differently from living players. If the player in the roleslot you selected is dead, then you're still just told who they visited (if anyone), the same as if they were alive. (Dead players usually don't visit, but there are exceptions, such as when a Retributionist is controlling them.)
