Hunter

Alignment: Town Protective

Abilities: Watch one person at night and scare off those that wish them ill will.

Attributes:
-You can only scare off one intruder per night.
-You will know if you scared somebody off.

Goal: Lynch every criminal and evildoer.

Win Conditions:
Wins with the Town
Wins with Survivors
Must kill the Mafia
Must kill Witches
Must kill Serial Killers
Must kill Arsonists
Must kill Werewolves
Must kill Vampires

Investigative Results:
Sheriff: Your target is not suspicious.
Investigator: Your target makes rash decisions. They must be a Hunter, Vigilante, or Mafioso.
Consigliere: Your target owns a few beartraps. They must be a Hunter.

Additional Information:
The Hunter scares off one visitor in this order: Vampire Conversion > Mafia Deception > Control > Roleblock > Kill > Mafia Support
It also completely replaces the Vampire Hunter.

F.A.Q.
Woah, did orange just make a role?
Yeah, sure, kinda. Not like a Marshall is the world's newest concept though. Plus, this is a role idea driven by a suggestion to improve game balance.
So this looks like the Marshall from Forum Mafia. What's up with that?
It's almost an exact copy, except it scares of Vampires first (FM has no Vampires) and can actually scare off Mafia Support roles if nothing else is happening to the target.
This seems less powerful than a Doctor, because it can only scare off a killer if nothing else bad is happening to the target.
That's where you're wrong. This role assumes that Doctor will be nerfed to be unable to visit the same target two nights in a row unless the Doctor successfully healed them. The Hunter will be able to protect a target every night, and can also scare off other bad roles on nights when the target is not being killed. In addition, the Hunter currently has no limits on the amount of times it can protect itself.
Why is this paired with Vigilante and Mafioso when investigated?
Mafioso is in every game and needs more claimspace.
What is the main purpose of this role?
It will help to bring balance to the Town Protective alignment while being a strong role on its own. It all works out nicely.
What is this suggestion that the role is a part of?
My Whisper System Overhaul.
Can this role stand on its own, apart from the Whisper System Overhaul?
As it is a better and much more balanced Vampire Hunter replacement, yes it can.

Discuss.

I like the idea, but I think that it should come in in addition to Vampire Hunter, as it's a lot of people's favorite roles. (AKA my sister)

Vampire Hunter is a role that exists purely to hardcounter Vampires. It is toxic to game balance (much like the Vampires it exists to counter) and should be removed regardless of whether or not this replaces it.

For some reason, it feels like a limited Doctor such that it has different priorities. And taking away the Vampire Hunter makes it difficult for town, won't it?

Not even close. What happens in games with no Vampire Hunter at all? This has a much higher chance to be in-game than the Vampire Hunter, can do more than the Vampire Hunter, is better for balance than the Vampire Hunter, and that's not even mentioning the fact that Vampires need a complete overhaul themselves or that the suggestion this is a part of has no room for Vampires whatsoever.

I'd rather it be named Marshall.

Your target makes rash decisions. They are either a Vigilante, Marshall, or Mafioso.

Other possible spots
Your target is paranoid. They are either a Veteran, Marshall, Survivor, or the Werewolf
Your target holds grudges. They are either a Sheriff, Marshall, Executioner, or the Godfather

Consigliere: Your target owns a few beartraps. They must be a Hunter.

Yes.

I am liking your steady stream of role ideas, good sir.

But, playing as the VH as NB is a very fun thing. Unfortunately, my little game of cat and mouse within the game of town of salem is not the best option.

Okay, your rash decisions thing is much better. Going with that.

yep.

Would it be crazy to have both Marshall and NBVamp Hunter?

Not if Vampires are restricted to Chaos modes only. Then they can coexist.

So... it seems like a buffed Doctor that can only protect against one visit in exchange for being able to protect against different things than just death... Or you could think of it as a highly nerfed and non-unique Jailor, I guess? I don't really get the point of it, there are already town roles that do what this does. Also, yeah, Hunter does not fit the role at all, if it just scares them away.

Actually, it works quite well, and has been used in many Mafia games outside of Town of Salem, including ToS's own Forum Mafia.

I think a better name would be Captain, and the lore states that they're a high ranking police officer who gives off a menacing presence towards evildoers

Problem: we're trying to stay relatively close to the Kickstarter promises on Vampire Hunter here.

I like it more now, but still, I want to keep VH as I really like it.

This is just a Marshal even if the Marshal can't scare off Vampires.

Also, Vampires are already underpowered. Why is it the first one to be scared of all roles by the Hunter?

It replaces the Vampire Hunter, and needs to kinda sorta meet the Kickstarter promises for a Vampire Hunter.

Plus, Vampires need a rework anyways.

Sounds like a good idea, but it's not a very original concept. However yours is by far the most thought about and detailed that I've seen.

Your priorities list isn't specific enough tbh
What happens if 2 roles of the same category visit?

Probably whoever visited first (whoever clicks first).

Also I never claimed to have made an original role. :D I even say that in the F.A.Q. :P

That would be really very hard for BMG to implement, me thinky.

They actually already do this for things like Witch.

First of all this way too different from vh. More like scrap the vh oh and add this role. And it is very weak. Apart from beeing a half decent claim it doesn't do much you know.

It's a Town Protective that can protect against more things too. That's what we like to call "doing a lot".

Also hell yes get rid of the trash that is Vampire Hunter.

It does a lot but it's priority doesn't help a lot and it can only prevent one of these things.

If it ends up being underpowered as a Town Protective role, we switch up the priorities.
