The Umbrae Faction

Factional Mechanics:

A new mechanic with this faction is added, the Blood Moon.

The Blood Moon Summons has 1 charge, this will not be used night 4 where it autospawns, this charge may be used N5+ and is saved throughout any Deity spawn.
A Blood Moon can only be summoned on days where the Full Moon would come out during that night.
A Blood Moon will only have the ability to be summoned N5 or later, one will ALWAYS spawn N4 regardless of the Umbrae's existence and will not use a charge.
A Blood Moon is the same as a full moon in the sense that the town is notified at night of its existence.


An Umbra (Assault) MUST spawn before any other Umbrae roles can spawn, the Deity is ALWAYS the second Umbra role to spawn, the following Umbrae spawns are randomized.
If an Umbra (Assault) dies, a random Umbra role will take their spot.

Umbrae Roles


Umbra (Head)
Spoiler: The Deity

Alignment: Umbra (Head)

Attack: None
Defense: Variable

Abilities:
Turn an Umbrae's visit astral.
(Day Ability : {1} Use)
Empower the Full Moon and turn it into a Blood Moon.

Attributes:
During the Blood Moon, you have Powerful defense.
During a Blood Moon, you may issue a Basic, Astral attack.
During the Full Moon, you have Basic defense.
If you are the last remaining Umbrae member you will become the Prophet.

SHERIFF:
You cannot find evidence of wrongdoing. Your target seems innocent!

Investigator:
Your target could be a Sheriff, Executioner, Werewolf, Poisoner, or Deity!

Consigliere:
Your target is the leader of a lunar threat. They must be the Deity!

Notifications:
You decide to raise the Blood Moon tonight.
You will not raise a Blood Moon tonight.
You did not raise a Blood Moon last night.
You decide to drain [X] tonight.
You instead decide to drain [X].
The dirty work must be done. - Becoming the Prophet
They were drained of hope by the Deity.
You were drained of hope!

Goal: Kill all who would threaten the blue moon.



Umbra (Assault)
Prophet
Spoiler: The Prophet

Alignment: Umbra (Assault)

Attack: Basic (Variable)
Defense: None (Variable)

Abilities -
Kill a player each night.

Attributes -
Under a full moon you have basic defense.
Under a Blood Moon you have powerful attack and defense.
Under no moon, you have no defense.
If you are jailed twice, you may issue your attack inside of jail.
You are role block immune.
- Your attack ignores transportation.

SHERIFF:
During non-moon nights: You cannot find evidence of wrongdoing. Your target seems innocent.
During any moon night: Your target is suspicious!

Investigator:
Your target could be a Doctor, Disguiser, Serial Killer, Potion Master, or Prophet.

Consigliere:
Your target is unrelenting in their attacks. They must be the Prophet.

NOTIFICATIONS:
You have decided to kill x tonight.
You instead decide to kill x tonight.
A Full Moon is out tonight, you can feel your spirit leave your body!
A Blood Moon is out tonight. You feel immeasurable strength enter your body!

They were eviscerated by the Prophet.
You were eviscerated by the Prophet!

Goal: Kill all who would threaten the blue moon.


Invoker
Spoiler: The Invoker
Umbra (Assault)

Attack: Basic
Defense: None

Abilities: Kill one person each night, disguising their cause of death.

Attributes:
You are role block immune.
Under a Full Moon, your visit is astral.
Under a Blood Moon, you will mimic the mechanics of your disguised cause of death.
(Werewolf/Pestilence Rampage, Juggernauts Powerful Attack, Arsonists Unstoppable Ignition. )
You cannot mimic Astral attacks, but you may copy indirect ones.
(Ex. You will directly ignite your target as anArsonist.)
SHERIFF:
During non-moon nights: You cannot find evidence of wrongdoing. Your target seems innocent.
During any moon night: Your target is suspicious!

Investigator -
Escort, Transporter, Consort, Hypnotist, or Invoker.

Consigliere -
Your target requests a god to fabricate their work for them. They must be the Invoker.


NOTIFICATIONS:
You have decided to stab X tonight.
You instead decide to stab X tonight.
You will make it look like X died to a [role].
The Full Moon is out, your soul leaves your body.
The Blood Moon is out, you feel stronger then ever!

Goal: Kill all who would threaten the blue moon.


Anathema
Spoiler: The Anathema
Umbra (Assault)

Attack: Basic (Powerful)
Defense: None

Control Immune (Blood Moon)
Roleblock Immune (Full Moon, Blood Moon)

Abilties: Attack 2 players every full moon night.

Attributes:

- Under a Blood Moon, you will rampage at your house in addition to attacking, your attack will be upgraded to powerful.

SHERIFF:
During non-moon nights: You cannot find evidence of wrongdoing. Your target seems innocent.
During any moon night: Your target is suspicious!

Investigator -
Your target could be a Vigilante, Veteran, Mafioso, Pirate, Ambusher, or Anathema.

Consigliere -
Your target is reviled by the town. They must be the Anathema.


Umbra (Support)
Fabricator
Spoiler: The Fabricator
Umbra (Support)

Attack: None (Variable)
Defense: None

Abilities:
Replace a persons body every Full Moon night.

Attributes:
Killed players will appear as alive to the town until they are voted up to the stand, or if they are visited by another person during the night or any night after they die.
A fabricated player being voted up to stand can be pardoned or executed as normal.
On Blood Moon nights, you may kill and fabricate a player.
A player you have successfully fabricated will be seen as "Fabricated" during a death flip, and their last will is not shown.
You will know your target's role and will.


SHERIFF:
During non-moon nights: You cannot find evidence of wrongdoing. Your target seems innocent.
During any moon night: Your target is suspicious!

INVESTIGATOR:
Your target could be a Medium, Janitor, Retributionist, Necromancer, Trapper, or Fabricator.

CONSIGLIERE:
Your target is a deceiver aligned with the moon. They must be the Fabricator.

NOTIFICATIONS:
You have decided to fabricate a body of [X].
You instead decide to fabricate [X].
You fabricated your target!
You secretly know your target's role was [role].
You secretly know your target's last will.
(Blood Moon)
You will kill and fabricate [X] tonight.
You instead decide to kill and fabricate [X].
You were fabricated!

Goal: Kill all who would threaten the blue moon.


Matriarch

Spoiler: The Matriarch
Umbra (Support)

Attack: Powerful
Defense: None

Attack: Powerful
Defense: None

Ability: Craft a rune at night, during the next day, place the rune at your targets house, this will cancel all day abilities to your target.

Attributes:
Runes will cause all abilities to fail.
- Umbrae are immune to Runes.
You cannot craft a rune night one.
You may place runes on fellow Umbrae members.
On Full Moon Nights, your rune will frame your targets visitors and role block your target.
- Frames are permanent.
On Blood Moon Nights, your rune will attack all visitors and role block your target.

Sheriff:
During a non full-moon night: You cannot find evidence of wrongdoing. Your target seems innocent.
During a full moon / blood moon night: Your target is suspicious!

Investigator:
Your target could be a Survivor, Vampire Hunter, Amnesiac, Medusa, Psychic, or Matriarch.

Consigliere:
Your target uses runic powers for the lunar cult. They must be the Matriarch.

Goal: Kill all who would threaten the blue moon.


Tyro

Spoiler: The Tyro
Umbra (Support)
Attack: None (Variable)
Defense: None

Ability - Visit a player each night, disguising as their role.

Attributes -
During the Blood Moon, you may issue a direct, powerful attack.
If the Assault role is killed you will take their place before anyone else.
After killing a player, you may choose an untaken Umbrae role to convert into.
You cannot be role blocked.
You cannot be controlled.

SHERIFF:
During non-moon nights: You cannot find evidence of wrongdoing. Your target seems innocent.
During any moon night: Your target is suspicious!
Results of disguised target: (either)

Investigator: Your target could be a Bodyguard, Godfather, Arsonist, Crusader, or Tyro.
OR
(Results of disguised target)

Consigliere: Your target is in training to become a powerful leader. They must be the Tyro.
OR
(Results of disguised target)

Goal: Kill all who would threaten the blue moon.


Seer
Spoiler: The Seer
Umbra (Support)

Attack: Basic
Defense: None

Abilities -
Cloud a players mind once per night, preventing them from receiving feedback.
(Day Ability: {1} Use)
Call upon the Full Moon to make a blinding fog once per game.

Attributes -
Anyone who was killed in the fog will have their roles shown as (Unknown) and will have their wills cleaned.
Cause of death in the fog will be hidden.
On a Blood Moon night, you may attack a target with an astral attack and hide them in the fog, cleaning them.
The Umbrae will see the cause of death, roles, and wills of those undiscernable by the fog.

SHERIFF:
During a non moon night -
You cannot find evidence of wrongdoing. Your target seems innocent.
During any moon night -
Your target is suspicious!

Investigator:
Your target could be a Spy, Blackmailer, Jailor, Guardian Angel, or Seer!

Consigliere:
Your target calls upon the moon for a terrible fog. They must be the Seer.

NOTIFICATIONS:
You have decided to call upon the fog tonight.
You have called off the fog.
You successfully called the fog onto the town.
Victims:
Your mind was clouded last night!

End of Night -
A dark fog swirls the town.
End of Night (Blood Moon) -
A rending fog suffocates the town.

Transition Phase:
We were unable to discern [X]'s cause of death.
We lost the will of [X] to the fog.
We could not discern [X]'s role.

Goal: Kill all who would threaten the blue moon.


Soothsayer
Spoiler: The Soothsayer
Umbra (Support)

Attack: Powerful
Defense: None

Abilities:
Link your mind to your target's at night, seeing your targets visit.

Attributes:
If your target does not visit, you will learn their role.
If your target visits, you will learn your targets targets role, you will be able to discern which has happened.
On a Full Moon night, you will learn both players roles if your target visits.
On a Blood Moon night, you will rampage your target if they do not visit, and you will rampage at your target's targets house if they do.

SHERIFF:
During a non moon night -
You cannot find evidence of wrongdoing. Your target seems innocent.
During any moon night -
Your target is suspicious!

Investigator:
Your target could be an Investigator, Consigliere, Mayor, Tracker, Plaguebearer, or Soothsayer.

Consigliere:
Your target promises peace under a moon of blood. They must be a Soothsayer!

NOTIFICATIONS:
[Consigliere Results] - Tracking a non-visiting player
Your target's target is a [role]! - Tracking a tracked target's role.
You attacked someone.

Goal: Kill all who would threaten the blue moon.

Now that there isn't guaranteed to be the Deity, keeping the Deity alive is the biggest priority. But since they can only summon the moon late in the game I'm not sure how important it will be. The night numbers can be tweaked with testing to make it so that the Deity isn't OP while also not being useless. So that's not a big issue. The astral visits thing is a good secondary ability. Not very strong but they can still do something.

Prophet seems like a pretty basic killing role. The Jailor and Transporter mechanics are a little weird but okay and make the role unique. As long as there's a promotion mechanic the kill power should be fine since it's a 1 KPN faction.

Invoker is pretty similar to Prophet. Not a fan of the astral attacks considering that's the ability of the Deity. Maybe you can replace the full moon ability with something else like disguising yourself as the killer you choose. Not that you would necessarily want that.

Anathema has a different killing pattern which is fine since it's stronger later in the game but weaker earlier. I think it balances out pretty fairly.

Effectively this is similar to Janitor since the fabrication can be figured out pretty easily. I don't love the fabrication mechanic since it can be worked around by making everyone talk but in practice no one would really do that and it doesn't have a large effect on the balance. Overall the role is weaker than Janitor since it's restricted to full moons which is fine since the US roles should be weaker than Mafia due to the higher kill power of Umbrae.

Matriarch seems like an unfair counter to Jailor since it's one of the only roles with a day ability. Even without the day ability thing the role should be fine since it would be a full moon Consort with frames, so it would fit the mold of being weaker than Mafia but still useful. The killing mechanic is fine as well since it should be around 1 kill on average on a Blood Moon.

Tyro seems pretty weak, but it's not much different from Disguiser so that's not a big deal. Maybe let it flip as its disguised target's role? That could make things interesting.

Seer is overall alright but its kill seems a little strong since the basic vs powerful thing won't make much of a difference in Ranked. I would suggest removing astral attacks while keeping the clean kill mechanic.

Soothsayer seems a little strong. A rampage is definitely better than the 1 kill on average that the other US roles get on a blood moon, and the investigation ability is significantly stronger than Consig. Maybe remove finding roles all together? So it would have a weak investigative ability countered by a stronger killing ability.

The faction's roles and mechanics are a little complicated which isn't terrible but isn't ideal. The roles are mostly balanced given the faction's mechanics, but there are a lot of moving parts since each role has normal, full moon, and blood moon abilities. I would suggest letting the blood moon happen a little earlier so that it can have more of an effect but that can be figured out with testing.
