The Alien Faction

The Alien faction is a quirky faction with limited kills but very powerful roles.

Unique Mechanic — Charges
Every Alien has a "normal" ability and a Killshot ability.
Killshot abilities require a Charge to activate.
Select your Coin "Charge" ability to try and charge your killshot ability if you wish to use it.

Multiple Aliens may charge their killshot on the same day.
The Alien faction starts with a pool of charges of a variable size.
Spoiler: KillShots = 6-StartingAliens
With 1 Alien, 5 killshots are granted (and a bonus shot for last man standing)
With 2 Aliens, 4 killshots are granted.
With 3 Aliens, 3 killshots are granted.
With 4 Aliens, 2 killshots are granted.
If for some reason you have 5 Aliens, 1 killshot is granted.

Every time an Alien dies, 1 additional charge is granted.
If there is only 1 Alien remaining, a bonus charge is given to the last Alien.

Killshots are only expended if the ability is actually used. If you're roleblocked, the shot is refunded.

If there are fewer killshots than people who want to use them, priority is decided by lobby join. I might make a priority list later.

If an Amnesiac remembers Alien and then dies, that currently grants Aliens another killshot. This may later prove to be a bad move but we'll see how it goes.

Aliens use #00BFBF.
Every role is unique as of present.

Abductor
Spoiler: — Abduct someone at night, informing them they were roleblocked.
— Your target will be untargetable for that night and roleblocked.
— With Killshot: target someone to deal a Powerful attack and Janitor them. You get to see the will and role. Flipped role is "Missing."


Death Ray
Spoiler: — Energize two people at night.
— If an energized player ever visits another energized player, both players are dealt a Basic attack.
— With Killshot: target someone to deal an Unstoppable attack to them and all energized players they visit or were visited by that night.

Shapeshifter
Spoiler: — Target someone at night to silently roleblock them, steal all night feedback of any kind, and perform their action instead of them.
— You learn where you went instead of your target.
— Your investigative results (except for Sheriff) permanently change to that of your target's, and you will appear as your target to Lookouts and Trackers.
— If you die you will flip as your target's role.
— You may target Aliens.
— With Killshot: you will deal a Basic attack to your target and whoever they visit.


Forcefield
Spoiler: — Place a forcefield at a target's house.
— Your forcefield will redirect all visitors' actions onto themselves.
— You may target Aliens.
— With Killshot: your forcefield will deal a Basic attack to all visitors to your target.


Scrambler
Spoiler: — Scramble two targets at night.
— Your targets will do each others' actions.
— With Killshot: Your targets will instead do Basic attacks.


Hivemind
Spoiler: — Connect someone at night.
— Everyone who is connected is affected by every night action that targets other connected players.
— You are automatically connected.
— With Killshot: you may mind-melt someone and deal a Basic Astral attack to them. You will have Basic defense for this night.


Prober
Spoiler: — Target someone during the day to probe them the night following.
— Your target will be placed into an Alien-flavored Jail.
— You are unable to communicate with your target.
— You are unable to execute your target
— At the end of the night you will learn your target's Investigator results and learn who they attempted to target throughout the game.
— With Killshot: You will poison your target.


Commander
Spoiler: — Deploy or move alien technology at night.
— You are roleblock immune.
— You may give inventions to Aliens or to yourself.
— You have three inventions to install:
* Mind Trick confers detection immunity.
* Energy Shield grants Basic defense.
* Gravity Sink roleblocks all visitors.
— Your inventions will break upon a successful use and cannot be redeployed.
— If you give somebody else a copy of an invention that has already been given you will instead move the old copy to the new target.
— You may not undeploy an invention.
— You may not give someone two inventions at the same time.
With Killshot: You get a fresh copy of a Basic attack invention that you use on the person you "give" it to.

They were Abducted by an alien. (abducted.)
They were shocked by a death ray. (killed by energy from Death Ray)
They were disintegrated by a death ray. (killed by an unstoppable attack by Death Ray.)
They were eaten by a Shapeshifter. (killshot shapeshifter)
They were zapped by a Forcefield. (reflected by a killshot forcefield. if a target kills themself with their killing action they use that flavor too.)
They were killed by a Scrambler. (targeted by a killshot scrambled target)
They were killed through psionic connection. (died indirectly from a hivemind)
They were melted by a Hivemind. (targeted by a mindmelt)
They died from injuries after a probe. (poisoned by probe)
They were blasted by a Commander. (shot by Commander's attack)

Aliens are imbalanced versus a 9-man Town. I fix this by merging the slots of Witch and Exe and giving a bonus RT to Town. More claimspace, more majority, more deception.

With KillShot: deal a Basic attack to another player. You may choose the kill flavor.

If the Traitor is the last player standing the game will continue until they are killed.

This is definitely interesting!

Factions, I feel, can be kinda hard to develop because there's a lot of moving parts and components to take into account

but I think this Faction works pretty well!


I feel like the Shapeshifter's KillShot is a bit basic and not as special / unique as the others

Also---I am guessing there can only be a Maximum of 4 Aliens right? So no need to say that 5 Aliens are only afforded 1 KillShot then ?

Also, for KillShots, say there are 3 Aliens and thus 3 KillShots-----does that mean EACH Alien can do 3 KillShots? Or are there ONLY 3 for ALL 3 Aliens?????? :o

Maximum of 4 aliens, yes. I stuck in the 5 just in case a ranked list ever does 5v10 again.

Shapeshifter's attack is a bit weak, yeah, I'll see how it compares with the others shortly.

The alien team has a pool of killshot charges that they share. So yeah there's only 3 for all Aliens. Once someone dies on the Alien side, that'll replenish a killshot, and if there's only a solo alien remaining they get a bonus killshot on top of the other one so that they're able to still kill to victory.

I also still have yet to work out how Amnesiacs interact with the shot pool and how priority is decided on who gets the killshot if multiple people want to do the killshot when there isn't enough for them all. It'll likely go by lobby priority, and Amnesiacs remembering Alien likely won't remove killshots if they join up.

I think the Alien Faction names are a bit........unusual. They're not like, actual names persay. But then again. They are like Aliens so I am not even sure what a good naming system would be for an Alien faction? Maybe do things with like Stars /// Planets? Ex: Forcefield>>>Starfield?
Maybe a bit too flowery but I think it would be cooler + still get the point across + EVERYONE loves a Stars & Planets theme

anyway, /support for sure! it seems interesting :D

The names make sense IMO. I have been iffy about replying to this because
1. It's difficult to judge factions
2. It's difficult to make feedback constructive because of this.

However, 3, its difficult to make factions, kinda means that you put a lot of work into this and it should be rewarded, yes?

So what about a faction with a limited amount of kills? One which can have a large variety of effects? Some notes.

The roles are out of balance with eachother. You havent given aliens a "core" (like Mafioso for mafia) which gives aliens consistency. Death ray for example is one alien that can kill without a kill shot. Why have I outlined this issue?

Say we have a 11 v 4 alien town game. As an informed minority, aliens need to try to whittle down the town. Let's say your alien companion contains a scrambler and shape shifter. At N1, with both killshots, they can instantly take 4 town out of the game. Now it's a 7 vs 4. Now sure, the aliens are stranded for kills. But roles like death ray can also add to this without aliens dying.

Now what about an abductor, forcefield, probe and commander comp? With their killshots, they can only manage to make this town a 9 vs 4. Then they are stranded. No more killshots, and a kill shot represents 1 kill. Not that this is the best way to play it. Maybe there is some nutty forcefield play. But I think the difference between the last game is clear. Aliens have run out of stuff to and haveny scratched the town. I just thought of this parallel now, but it feels like filling mafia with ambushes.

I think having a consistent alien with some sort of killing capability without killshot will make alien builds less swingy. I think having death ray always be rolled could be the solution.

Thanks for your feedback!

On your recommendation I'll make Death Ray a guaranteed spawn in comp. I believe this may have been the angle I was looking to take with it as it's the only role that breaks the "no kills without killshots" rule, albeit can only cause said deaths indirectly (unlike Electrician, the role it's based off of, it can't re-energize someone to kill them.)
