Role Idea - The Patient (Neutral Killing)

Role Name:
The Patient (Role Color: #808000)

Role Alignment:
Neutral Killing

Abilities:
  • On odd nights, choose one player to attack.
  • You will attack exactly one person that visits you each night.

Attributes:
  • You will clean those you kill directly.
  • Players that die from visiting you will have only their alignment shown and their will destroyed.
  • If you do not select a target, you will attack someone at random.
  • If you are roleblocked, you will kill one of your visitors instead of your target.

Notifications:
  • The Patient:
    • You have decided to devour [Player] tonight.
    • It is time. The hunger is calling you. (Odd nights)
    • You didn’t choose a target, but your hunger is too strong. You attacked a player at random. (Odd nights if no target is selected)
    • Someone role blocked you so you stayed at home tonight.
    • You devoured someone who visited you!
  • The Victim:
    • You were devoured by the Patient!
    • You were devoured by the Patient you visited!

Goal:
Devour all who occupy the town.

Win Conditions:
  • Wins with Survivors, Witches

Special Attributes:
  • All wills of victims are destroyed.
  • Targets the Patient visits and kills appear cleaned.
  • Targets who visit the Patient have only their alignment shown.
  • You are a Unique role.


Investigator Results:
    Sheriff – Your target is suspicious!
    Investigator – Your target is a Framer, Vampire, Jester or Patient.
    Consigliere– Your target gnaws on their victims until they are forgotten. They must be the Patient!

Achievements:
  • Tastes Great - Win 1 Game as the Patient
  • Half Starved - Win 5 Game as the Patient
  • Diced! - Win 10 Game as the Patient
  • Horror - Win 25 Game as the Patient
  • My one love - Devour a Consort.
  • Best served cold - Devour a Godfather.
  • While your back was turned... - Devour someone who visited the Jailor after being Jailed.
  • You knew too much - Devour a Consigliere or Investigator who visited you.
  • Cannot decide - Let hunger overcome you and choose a victim for you.

Additional Information:
  • Has powerful attack.
  • Has basic defence.
  • Kill Order for visitors: MK, TK, MS, TS, MD, CE, TI, TP, NK, NC, NE, NB.
  • If in a standoff with the Veteran, the Patient is forced to attack, regardless of whether the Veteran has alerts or not (Odd Nights only). Therefore, the Patient wins by default.
  • The Patient is forced to attack on odd nights as part of their insanity. Not choosing to attack a specific player forces them to attack one at random – this could be devastating for the patient if they happen to attack a Town Protection target. This encourages the Player to choose who they think is a good victim.
  • You are a Unique role.

Lore:
Drip. Drip. Drip. The blood from the knife trickled down into the bucket, which sat underneath the Doctor’s desk.

The man stumbled out from the shadows, reaching over to pick it up. Extending his tongue and licking the blade. His spine shuddered with excitement, as the taste relaxed his mind. The Godfather and Jailor had made sure he would be sent to this asylum.

Once a loyal Mafioso, one moment of love-struck madness with the Consort had led to tragedy. Watching her being stabbed by the Serial Killer she visited, and then being kidnapped himself, he found himself desperate. Forced into a state of starvation, as he was held against his will, he had lunged at his captor. The rest was history. He had come back for revenge, seeking the Godfather’s blood. The taste of revenge had never been so sweet, nor looked so red. Alas, he couldn’t leave in the day. His former boss’s Hypnotist was watching him far too closely. Although, he smiled, at night when the two were doing their activities he would break free of his restraints. He would climb out the window and devour those who had taken it upon themselves to steal everything he had ever worked for.

This role seems like a stronger SK to me but with a higher chance of getting caught through last wills. This role would kill roughly two players every night on average. Roles that kill more than one person per night tend to make the game end very quickly and have huge impacts on the game if they make bad plays.

Also, this role uses RNG to decide who to kill, which is bad because the game should be decided by skill, not by who the Patient randomly kills. I saw you made a priority list, but it should be expanded and should include all roles or sub-alignments at a minimum. Also, what's so special about the Investigator and Consigliere that cause them to get killed first?

I really like the lore btw

Thanks I am glad you liked the lore. RNG only is an issue if you don't decide who to attack. (Which reminds me to add that to the notifications, so thanks for pointing that out). Example:

Patient has decided to attack Jonathan Corwin Tonight. -> Patient attacks Corwin
Patient doesnt decided to attack -> Your urge to feed is too strong, you attack someone randomly.

I think I missed a few notifications out. Hmm, the investigator thing is interesting - maybe I'll shift it so they prioritise killing mafia over town instead naturally as per lore? What do you think?

Edit:
  • Updated to slow the killrate to at most 1.5.
  • Weakened attack so it can only visit on odd nights - home attacks still occur regardless.
  • Added severe weaknesses via dead medium and potentially escort.
  • Explained the random factor - thus encouraging the player to actively attack to avoid hitting the veteran or TP protected player (which WILL happen).
  • Added and updated Kill order list. Removed special conditions for the Consig.

Edit2:
If people still do not like the "If no Target is Chosen, they attack randomly" I can do a priority list via alignment to "Randomly" attack. - I want to encourage players to choose a victim however.

Interesting role. This is a very powerful role and makes the town worry about the patient than any other killing roles.

It's ability to clean roles should also be a redflag to other evils, they can't specifically go after it as it opens claim space for them, but it can't be left be too long either.
