Role Name:
Technician

Role Alignment:
Mafia Support

Abilities:
- Sabotage a player, weakening their ability that night.
- Deploy a gas grenade to prevent any investigative results being produced.
- Tap a player's house to receive all feedback they receive.

Attributes:
- You cannot sabotage the same player twice.
- You must spend a night building a gas grenade to be used to next night only.
- Gassed players will appear doused

Notifications:
Technician
- Your target was in jail last night/You were role blocked. You didn’t use your Gas Grenade in time. It exploded.
- You have decided to build a Gas Grenade tonight.
- You have decided to use your Gas Grenade at [Player]’s house tonight.
- You didn’t use your Gas Grenade in time. It exploded.
- You have decided to Tap [Player]’s house tonight.

Gas Grenades:

Visitors to a Gas Grenaded House
- Your vision is obscured. There is a gas grenade.

Arsonists:
- You were covered in Gas! You must spend a night cleaning the Gas off of yourself!

Sabotage:

Group A: Escort, Necromancer, Retributionist, and Transporter.
- You were Sabotaged. You were unable to do your duty.

Group B: Bodyguard, Crusader, Doctor, Potion Master, and Trapper.
- You were Sabotaged last night! You have to Re-equip tonight!

Group C: Jailor, Poisoner, Potion Master, Vampire Hunter, Veteran and Vigilante.
- If they Attack: "You were Sabotaged by a Technician. You were hurt from recoil!”
- Death Sequence is the same as their attack, E.G: “They were shot by a Vigilante”.
- If they do not perform their ability: "You were Sabotaged last night. You have to spend a night repairing your Weaponry!"
- You spend a night repairing your Weaponry.

Other:
- None.

Spy
- Your target was sabotaged!

Goal:
Eliminate anyone who opposes the Mafia.

Win Conditions:
Wins with Mafia.
Wins with Survivors.
Wins with Witch.

Special Attributes:
- If you Sabotage a member of the Mafia, you will be killed by the Mafia.
- You have access to Mafia Chat.
- If there are no kill capable Mafia left you become a Mafioso.

Investigative Results:
Sherif – Your target is suspicious.
Investigator – Your target could be a Spy, Blackmailer, Jailor, (Guardian Angel) or Technician.
Consigliere – Your target likes to play with electronics and explosives, they must be a Technician.

Additional Information:
General
- Hypnotists can produce the Gas Grenade message, but players will still receive results.

Gas Grenade
- Gas Grenades can stop an Ambusher from being seen.
- A Technician can target any member of the Mafia with a Gas Grenade, including themselves.
- Only visiting is registered as a Mafia Visit.

Sabotage
- Sabotaging a Random Mafia member role blocks them.
- Sabotaging a Mafia member kills the Technician instead of the Mafia Killing's Target.
- Sabotaging an acting Group C role deals a powerful attack to them.

- You may Sabotage someone directly using your tools. Your target will know if they were sabotaged. You cannot Sabotage the same Player twice.
- You may use a Gas Grenade to obscure the view of anyone visiting your target, and prevent investigative results from being produced.
- In order to use a Gas Grenade, you have to select yourself at night and spend a day building one. Once built you have to use it the next night.
- Not using your Gas Grenade forces it be used on yourself. Anyone hit by a Gas Grenade, directly or indirectly will be shown as Bodyguard/Godfather/Arsonist until checked again by a Town Investigative.
- Tap a Player's house to receive all the notifications and results they receive.

- You changed your mind.
- Your target was in jail last night. Your ability failed.
- You have decided to build a Gas Grenade tonight.
- You have decided to use your Gas Grenade at [Player]’s house tonight.

Additional Information:
General
- The Escort should be one of the Technician’s biggest counters, as unlike a Consort or Witch, they can be role blocked and cannot prevent an execution if they are.
- The Spy should also be a major threat to a Technician, as if they bug the Technician during the building phase, they will know of the Technician’s plans.
- Hypnotists should be able to produce the Gas Grenade message. Although, players will still receive results.
- If a Witch controls a Sabotaged Vigilante the Witch's target is shot. The Sabotage still goes through.

Gas Grenade
- Gas Grenades can directly protect the Ambusher from being seen.
- A Technician may target members of the Mafia with a Gas Grenade, including themself. This phase of Smoke Bombing will be registered as a Mafia Visit. Building will not.

Sabotage
- Sabotaging a Jailor will prevent their execution going through. They will not know they were sabotaged until the morning, however.
- Sabotaging a Transporter will prevent players being transported.
- Sabotaging a Vigilante will make them shoot themselves through recoil (dealing them a powerful attack. They can be saved by a Doctor). The target they selected will also be shot. This only works if the Vigilante is selected the night they choose to shoot.
- A Sabotaged Vigilante only uses up one bullet, although they deal a powerful attack to themselves, and a basic attack to their target.
- If a Vigilante is Sabotaged, but does not shoot, at the end of the night they get a notification saying they cannot shoot the next night in order to repair their gun.
- If a Poisoner is Sabotaged, but does not shoot, at the end of the night they get a notification saying they cannot poison the next night in order to repair their dart shooter.
- If a Poisoner is Sabotaged, and chooses to poison, they poison themselves as well as their intended target.
- Sabotaging a Mafia member effectively role blocks them, and kills the Technician.
- All other roles other than the ones aforementioned are immune to sabotage at the current time.

I like this concept.
You should elaborate on what happens with Sabotage
Also the smoke grenade is relatively weak, what if it obscures people's view and stops them from receiving the result of their ability? Ex: Invest investigates a player who was smoke grenaded, they will not receive the result of it. (This is similar to my role idea: Mentalist)

Thank you for commenting, I have made an edit regarding the Vigilante suicide, making it a trade off, and only work if the Vigilante decides to shoot, Ie: Vigi shoots, Vigi's gun backfires too, causing them and their target to be shot. Is that a decent Nerf to that?

I also added an explaination regarding the Sabotage Vs Smoke Grenading. Is there anything else I need to elaborate on?

Update:
- I have added the Lore for this role.
- I have fixed any typos I found.
- I have added another alteration regarding a Technician sabotaging another mafia member, resulting in the Mafia member being role blocked, and the Technician being killed.

Comments/Feedback welcomed still. I still haven't done the achievements regarding this, so suggestions are welcomed. :)

I love this idea. Having 3 abilities at your disposal allows for a lot of tactical thinking, and if played right can make a real difference for mafia. It also seems you have put a lot of thought into the balancing of this, the role itself does not seem overpowered as they can only use one ability at once, and the role will help reduce the power of the currently 3 strongest roles, Jailor, Trans and Vigilante. I can easily see this becoming my favorite mafia role. I also love the part that makes the mafia kill the Technician if he sabotages them, fits really well with the well written lore you have written. So just a few questions.

Will the smoke grenade be able to target fellow mafia members?
Will the recoil from the gun consume an additional bullet if the vigilante is saved by a doctor?

Keep up the good work, you have by far, the best new roles ideas on the forums in my opinion.

I have edited the post to include the answers to your questions however,

1) Yes, a they can - it helps stop detection from Tis.
2) No, it will not. Effectively, a Vigilante would deal a powerful attack to themselves - so could only be saved by a Doctor - giving the Technician another potential counter.

Concerns:
The only major problem I see is that a smoke bomb should not be able to seen by the spy. I'm talking about the spy being able to see a player being smoke bombed. Completely ruins the ability of TIs not being able to see smokebombs imo.

Another [minor] problem is that for ALL Maf roles, if they want to use an ability on a player, it fails if that target is in jail. So, I would just make life easier for yourself ;) and just say 'Your ability failed because your target was in jail.' [Talking about the tapping here]

The role alignment should also be Mafia Killing imo, especially considering they can get vigilantes killed. That also reminds me- if a vigilante dies due to a sabotage, what does it say to the vigilante [You were sabotaged by the Technician! You have died!'] and to the public when they die? [They were sabotaged by a Technician, They were killed by their own recoil, etc.]

Questions:
The vigilante being able to shoot their target as well is great- but what happens if the vigilante is witched AND sabotaged? Does the witch override the vigilante's choice?

If the technician chooses to build a smoke bomb, will the spy get a maf visit on them? [after all, they techincally visited their house to build a trap].

Can you use the Smoke Grenade on your own house? I think this is a very good strat, cuz TIs will have no idea who you are.

Comments:
I also like the nerf that CapWarrior2 suggested, because that will definitely make the technician more wary.

It's similar to a potion master, except the only cooldown is the smoke grenade.

The jailor meta, unfortunately, will still thrive. That's cuz you need to spend a day building your smoke bomb first, and on night two, spies/LOs/TPs generally have their own assignments that other townies have told them to do.

Overall, I really love this idea. Mafia definitely need a PM-esque player on their team.

Thank you for the time you put into reading this. I have answered your questions, and amended the role accoridngly.

Questions
1) The Vigilante be forced to shoot the Witch's target. The Witch will suffer no consequences of this.
2) Building the Smoke Bomb itself won't be classed as a MV, however, if the bomb is used on a Mafia member, it will be classed as a visit - opening claim space up.
3) Yes, the Technician will be able to use the Smoke Bomb on their own house.
4) Notifications: Re Vigilante death: "He was shot by a Vigilante" will be the death message. HOWEVER, the Vigilante will indeed recieve "You were Sabotaged by a Technician. You died to recoil!"
5) Re: Being Jailed - I have fixed that now since, indeed it would be considered too overpowered if the jailee revealed the jailor.

Maf Killing Vs Maf Support
While I can see why it could be considered a killing role, it is more support based. Most of the Technician's abilities are support based. With 1 ability that could be considered more deception and one that has a potential killing outcome - albeit indirect. Therefore, I think Support is correct.

I mean I can change it, I've also been told invest/consig/mayor/Tech would work too. The act of tapping isn't just a bug its an info collector. but I will change it and we will see. Elsewise I might revert back to Med/Jani/Ret/Tech as a method of weakening its claimspace. As it is a powerful-ish role if used correctly.

In Coven All Any it would be a chaos causer for sure, particularly with the transporters. In TT It could be used as a method for a TT Vig to pull off the shot, or an excuse for a TT Transporter to claim failed transport ;)

You should make the Sabotage ability affect more roles, I've got some ideas below:

First off you should remove the one for Jailor since the Consort is really meant to do that
However there are still many roles they could be able to sabotage, such as:

Psychic: When sabotaging them, make it so they have 3 Good people in their Evil vision and 2 Evil people in their Good vision; they will not be notified that they were sabotaged

Veteran: They will only shoot Town members that visit them the next time they go on Alert(so that they can still shoot you if you try to sabotage them while they're on alert), however they will not be notified beforehand that they were sabotaged. they will still grant themselves powerful defense. If they do not go on alert within the next night, the sabotage will be gone.

Crusader: Will take priority in killing a Town member over a Mafia member that night you sabotage them. They will be notified that they were sabotaged.

Doctor: Nothing will happen the night you sabotage them, but after that, they will accidently kill the next person they heal that doesnt get attacked. They will be notified they were sabotaged, meaning if they're smart they'll try and act as a Vigilante, but this means you have one less TP to deal with until they kill somebody which may be a Town member.

Bodyguard: They will not kill your Mafia(Killing) however they will still die in their target's place. This will only take place on the night you sabotage them, and they will also see your name upon death, making you a bit vulnerable to a possible Medium alive.

Trapper: Their trap will attack the next Town member that visits that night. It will still attack an Evil role that visits, but if a Town member does happen to visit it'll take priority over them.

Escort: Instead of role blocking another player, they'll role-block themselves.

Mayor: Will lose their 3 votes the next day but will gain them back afterwards.

Now, if Sabotage affected all of these roles, it would have to have a possible 2 or 3 day cooldown, like the Potion Master. Or, you could make it so you can't Sabotage the same person twice. I'm leaning towards the one where you can't pick the same target twice, but it's up to you.

This role seems really complicated.
Is it accurate to say that the three abilities simplify to a roleblock, a rolestop, and a spy's bug?

Edit:
Actually- it looks like a sabotage is an improved roleblock which stops its target from using their abilities as well as backfires. This is seems too powerful, it can be simplified it to a roleblock.
The smoke grenade seems to be a rolestop but only against investigator roles. This seems too hard-countery, perhaps it can be buff'd to become a full rolestop.
The tap seems like it's more specific than the Spy's bug, but is only usable against killing roles. I suggest buffing it where it receives the same/better information as a Spy's bug would.

I mean it did great in Testing so it can’t be too bad, but the Technician is more of a jack of several trades.
