Watcher (Neutral (Evil))

Disclaimer: This role idea is less something I'd genuinely want to see in-game, but is more for creative expression/something fun to think about.

Name: Watcher

Alignment: Neutral(Evil)

Description: You are mysterious entity with a keen sense of sight and hearing who is obsessed with other's personal business.

Attack:None/Defense:None

Abilities: During the day, you may choose to Watch over the town.

Attributes:
  • When you Watch over the town, you see all night chats (Mafia, Coven, Jailor, Vampire).
  • You will not see the names of people who chat (similar to VH and old spy).
  • You will see who each person selects, regardless of their team, but you will not see the name of the person who is selecting.
  • When you choose to Watch over the town, all townspeople will be notified at the start of the night.
  • You may choose to Watch an unlimited amount of times, but you may not Watch twice in a row.
  • If you are Jailed, you cannot Watch.
  • On nights that you successfully Watch, all actions against you, except for Jailing, will fail.
  • On nights you do not Watch, you will learn of all roles that visit you, unless you had Watched the previous night.
  • You cannot be roleblocked.

Goal: Live to see the Town lose.

Win conditions: Same as Witch

Notifications:
"Someone has decided to target [player]."
When someone chooses a target while you are watching.

"You have decided to Watch over the town tonight."
When you select the option to Watch during the day.

"You instead decide to rest tonight."
When you deselect the option to Watch during the day.

"You climb up to a high vantage point and listen carefully. You can see all that happens tonight."
The beginning of a night where you successfully Watch.

"You feel a mysterious presence looming over the town. You get the feeling of being Watched."
The notification the town gets at the beginning of a night you successfully Watch.

"You are exhausted from last night. You need to rest tonight."
The notification you get at the start of the day following a night where you successfully Watched.

"You tried to Watch, but were hauled off to Jail!"
When you are jailed on a night you tried to Watch.

"Your target was nowhere to be seen, so you went back home."
Notification someone gets when they try to visit you on a night you successfully Watch.

"You noticed a [role] visiting you last night!"
Notification you get when you don't watch and someone visits you.

"You are so tired that you fall right to sleep, completely unaware of your visitors."
Notification you get when you are forced to stay home after Watching the previous night.

Results:
  • Sheriff: "You cannot find any evidence of wrongdoing. Your target seems innocent."
  • Investigator: "Your target could be a Lookout, Forger, Witch/Coven Leader, or Watcher."
  • Consigliere/Witch: "Your target seems acutely aware of your visit. They must be a Watcher."

Author's Notes:
  • I vaguely remember a role with a similar set of attributes here in RI a long time ago, but I don't remember what it's called.
  • I made this role a NE role, because I feel like it would be too beneficial to the Town if this role could win with Town.

i’m gonna be honest with you i had a whole paragraph debunking why this is op but in the middle of writing i realized that every point i brought up i disproved in the next sentence haha

good idea, i like it, but maybe due to my inexperience, if there is mafia AND coven in a game, which does it win with? i’m unsure. because in coven there are no witches and witches win with mafia... or maybe i’m oblivious haha either way i wanna know :)

also, what happens if the role is roleblocked?

Exposer - Neutral (Benign): “You are an exiled Framer who wishes to expose the Mafia.”

Famine, Horseman of the Apocalypse - Neutral (Chaos) {WIP}

War, Horseman of the Apocalypse - Neutral (Chaos) {WIP}
(We have Pestilence and a suggestion for Death, why not have the other 2 horsemen?)

If the role is roleblocked, nothing happens (like if a medium gets roleblocked, no night ability anyway)
In terms of mafia and coven, they win with both. They just need to live to the end of the game and have the game result in a non-Town victory, like witch.

Honestly this role seems like so much fun, and pretty balanced, especially for a neutral role. It is sort of a jack of all trades, master of none. I like it.

Being able to read messages you're not allowed to will never be fair, balanced or not be broken. It's a fucking horrible idea theoreotically and practically, evident by the reception of Spy, Blackmailer and VH. YOU CAN'T BALANCE A BROKEN CONCEPT, LIKE WITH RESSURECTION.
Plus this thing can't even do a good job for a true NE(aka Witch) as it can't directly disrupt town's flow nor help it's allies without revealing

Alignment

Okay so, I love the idea of this role. They are able to see the action of evil players. But this doesn't really work with with Neutral Evil alignment.
This role can find lots of information, but can literally do nothing with it. As a result, they are incapable of using it to harm the town. Perhaps this role would be more useful by being able to watch the townies instead, thus being able to feed other evil roles information.
