Night Hag (Coven Evil)

Postby MorganTheMod » Sat Jun 22, 2019 5:54 pm

Before I start this, I'm going to explain what a Night Hag is, in general human talk.
When people experience Sleep Paralysis, they often complain of pain in their chest like a weight holding their ribs down. Old folklore came up with the explanation that a "Night Hag" is the cause of this, coming to you during your sleep and sitting or laying down on your chest and sending bad dreams into your head while you sleep.
It is seen as a 'spiritual' demon stuck in the astral plane that can only hurt or communicate with you while you are in a state of sleep.
They also have been called a Mare(Night-Mare) and incubus (male)/succubus (female).
Hopefully, you understand the concept of a Night Hag a little bit more after that explanation.
Role Name:
Night Hag

Role Alignment:
Coven(Evil)

Abilities:
- You may choose a target to put into sleep paralysis.

Attributes:
- The victim will be awakened if visited by another player.
- While under sleep paralysis, the player is unable to visit other players and is unable to talk during the daytime.
- Sleep paralysis takes effect the next morning.
- You will know the role of the player who awakened your target.
- With the Necronomicon, you summon an astral demon that will ensure your target stays asleep but grants them Powerful protection and the target will die after sleep paralysis is over. Your visit is Astral.

Notifications:
You are experiencing sleep paralysis. You will be awakened in two nights, or by another player's visit! (Received at the end of the night when someone has been visited by the Night Hag)
You are experiencing sleep paralysis. You will fall into Eternal Sleep in two nights! (Received at the end of the night when someone has been visited by the Night Hag with the Necronomicon)
Sleep paralysis renders you unable to speak with other town members. (Anytime target tries to message- similar to "You are blackmailed")
I am experiencing sleep paralysis. (Sent as a message from the player anytime the target tries to talk during the defense period after being voted up by the town)
Your sleep paralysis renders you unable to visit any other town members. (At the end of a night when under sleep paralysis)
You were awakened by another player! (When sleep paralysis ends due to a player visiting the target)
You can feel an astral presence watching over you during your sleep paralysis. (When the Night Hag puts someone into sleep paralysis with the Necronomicon)
Someone tried to awaken you but an astral demon ensured you stayed asleep! (When a person visits the victim of a Night Hag with the Necronomicon)
You were attacked but an astral demon ensured you stayed safe during your slumber. (When a sleep paralysis victim of a Night Hag with Necronomicon was attacked and protected by the astral demon)
(Insert Name) was cast into an eternal sleep by the Night Hag. (Death message show to town after someone died from sleep paralysis)
A (role)'s visit has awakened your target! They are no longer under sleep paralysis. (When your target is awakened while they are under sleep paralysis)
A (role) tried to awaken your target but an astral demon ensured they stayed asleep! (When your target is visited while under sleep paralysis while you have the Necronomicon.)

Goal:
Kill everyone who stands in the way of the Coven.

Win Conditions:
Normal Coven win conditions.

Special Attributes/Notes:
Unique Role
A Player falling into Eternal Sleep will be dealt an Unstoppable attack, due to the fact that they cannot be awakened anyway because there is an astral demon.
A player will still be able to visit the night that the Night Hag visited them.
Sleep paralysis' effects do not begin until the next morning.
A victim of sleep paralysis will still be able to talk at night, including Jailors, jailed targets, Mafia, Coven. Reasoning behind this is that Coven and Mafia cannot purposely visit its own members except for Potion Master.
Vampires are immune to sleep paralysis due to their restless nighttime nature. The Night Hag will receive a message that their target has been awakened on the first night that they are under sleep paralysis as if there was a regular visit.
Mediums can speak with the dead and Psychics receive visions. Sleep paralysis does not roleblock but does stop people from visiting other players.
Survivors and Bodyguards will not be able to wear a bullet-proof vest while under sleep paralysis.
If Night Hag has the Necronomicon, a Doctor's heal, Bodyguard's/Crusader's protection, or Trapper's trap will not save a target falling into eternal sleep.
A Guardian Angel's protection will prevent a target from succumbing to sleep paralysis the night the Night Hag visits them and from falling into eternal sleep (dying) but cannot rid of sleep paralysis on the first night due to a Guardian Angels protection being Astral (not a visit). Sleep paralysis is not actually hurting the player just preventing them from speaking at daytime or visiting.
An astral demon will grant the victim of sleep paralysis with a powerful defense. It will not, however, prevent them from being converted by vampires.

Investigative Results:
Sheriff- Your target is suspicious. (Necronomicon would give them detection immunity)
Investigator- Your target could be a Escort, Transporter, Consort, Hypnotist, or Night Hag.
Consigliere/Coven Leader- Your target uses the power of the night sky to put others to sleep. They must be a Night Hag!

Achievements:
Well Rested - Win 1 game as Night Hag.
Rejuvenated - Win 5 games as Night Hag.
A New Day - Win 10 games as Night Hag.
Deep Sleeper - Win 25 games as Night Hag.
Exhausting Work - Put yourself into sleep paralysis.
Restless Disease - Have a Plaguebearer under sleep paralysis the night they become Pestilence.
Wrong Side of the Bed - Put a member of the Coven under sleep paralysis in the first 2 Nights.
Different State of Mind - Successfully cast a Hypnotist into Eternal Sleep.
Did You Get 8 Hours? - Put one person into sleep paralysis 3 times in one game.

Lore:
Will write as soon.
Feel free to write one and I will definitely take it into account.

Please give ideas and talk to each other. I will give a quick example to clear up any confusion.

Example:
Nora - Night Hag
John - Framer
Frank - Tracker
Sam - Sheriff

N1: Nora puts John into sleep paralysis
D1: John cannot speak but can vote
N2: Frank visits John. John is awakened by Frank. Nora puts Frank into sleep paralysis.
D2: John can speak. Frank cannot speak.
N3: Nora has Necronomicon. John visits Nora. Nora puts Sam into sleep paralysis with an astral demon.
D4: Sam and Frank cannot talk.
N4: John visits Sam. Sam is not awakened because of the astral demon. Frank is no longer in sleep paralysis.

So the Coven gets a nerfed Poisoner with added Blackmailer powers to make up for it?

Too similar to Poisoner, imo. Wouldn't be bad if Poisoner didn't exist, but since it does...

I understand where you are coming from, but the point of this role isn't necessarily to kill, but it can eventually like every coven member. And without the Necronomicon, it can be very hard to kill due to the many visiting roles.
It is not a nerfed Poisoner with BM abilities. The player is also prevented from visiting which can stop a Sherrif from continuing to search, and could possibly kill them in a long amount of time. Instead of creating a Coven role that JUST role blocks, this role can provide a method to do a form of role block while still being able to kill. Night Hags never go unnoticed like the majority of the Coven roles, because the players are notified of their sleep paralysis.

Poisoners focus is to kill and control Doctor, where Night Hag focuses on occupying the other players and can even find out if there is a role in the game when a target is cured of sleep paralysis.

The only thing Poisoner and Night Hag have in common is that their abilities take affect a later night than the night they visit, and a Night Hag's take another Night than the Poisoner's.

Note: The Night Hag is designed to neutralize/occupy players to keep them from finding and killing the Coven.
But every member of the Coven needs a method to kill, so I created the Eternal Sleep function.
It is very easy to prevent someone from falling into eternal sleep due to the natural majority of roles that visit in Town of Salem.
The Night Hag is a way of helping out the Coven to keep players from doing things that would hurt the Coven.

I might potentially remove the Eternal Sleep function and leave it for the Necronomicon ability, meaning that after the sleep paralysis time period is over for a player, they simply wake up.
But, if the Night Hag has the Necronomicon the player will fall into Eternal Sleep after sleep paralysis is over. The astral demon will still apply with the Necronomicon.

If this change is applied, the Night Hag will still be able to kill with the Necronomicon (as the Coven Leader can with Necronom. but can't without it) but will still be able to fulfill their purpose to the Coven.
