Rebel Faction
Subalignments: Killing, Investigation, Misdirection, Support
Goals:
- Kill: Town, Mafia, Coven, Vampires, Horsemen, Neutral Killing
- Can Win With: Neutral Evil, Neutral Benign
Attributes:
- Retributionists can revive all Rebel roles as if they were Town roles.
- Vampires cannot convert Rebels.
- Only one Rebel Killing will spawn. Once they die, any Rebel can decide to forgo their normal ability and deal a Basic attack. If the Rebel Killing is indisposed (such as being jailed), another Rebel can kill.
- The Rebels are an informed minority, who have a night chat and have a cap of 4.
- All Rebels, except Hunter, appear suspicious.
- The Rebels can vote on raising the Rebel Flag. If the majority of Rebels vote to raise the Flag, the Flag will be raised.
- Voting happens during the day, with a coin.
- Raising the Rebel Flag gives special abilities to each of the Rebels, as well as reveals their name to the town.
- The Rebels cannot be hung the day they raise the Flag.


Rebel Killing
Spoiler: Insurgent - Rebel Killing

Attack: Basic
Defense: Basic/Powerful

Summary: You are a killer who seeks justice in the town, and will go to any extremes to achieve your goals.

Abilities: Kill someone.

Attributes:
- With the Rebel Flag, you have a Powerful defense.

Precise: Your target yearns for true justice. They must be the Insurgent!

Goal: Rebel faction goals.

Lore:
Dragging the green cloth stained with the blood of your team, you string it up onto the pole of the gallows. Tomorrow it will fly. In the meantime, you make haste to the house of your designated target. Grabbing your trusty pistol, you burst through the door and prepare the shot. One bullet right into the skull. Grabbing your knife, and dipping it in the man’s blood, you scrawl one word on the ground next to the corpse. ‘Rebellion’. You are the Insurgent.


Hunter - Rebel Killing

Attack: Basic/Powerful
Defense: None/Basic

Summary: You are a dark-hearted mercenary who kills those who the town finds a threat.

Abilities: Kill someone.

Attributes:
- With the Rebel Flag, you have Basic defense.
- If you kill someone who has been put on trial and put down, you will deal a Powerful attack.
- You have Detection immunity.

Precise: Your target doesn't let the accused off the hook. They must be the Hunter!

Goal: Rebel faction goals.

Lore:
You have never felt bad killing. You know it’s a problem; you know you shouldn’t find so much joy in your work. But you do. The thrill of the hunt, the excitement of the showdown, the satisfaction of the murder, and the fact that you are making a difference. You know the system is corrupt. You make the difference by ridding the town of scum, one person wrongfully spared the noose after the other. You are the Hunter.


Distiller - Rebel Killing

Attack: Unstoppable
Defense: None

Summary: You are a rouge grain distiller who uses their concoctions to aid the rebellion.

Abilities: Run your brewery.

Attributes:
- With the Rebel Flag, you have infinite drinks.
- You have two abilities that you can choose.
- You can use both abilities in the same night.
- You can give out a first taste, making someone drunk.
- You can overdose a drunk, killing them.
- On the first night of being drunk, they will be unable to talk.
- Being drunk lasts for two nights.
- After the drunkenness runs out, they will have a hangover which prevents them from having their defense raised above None.
- Doing nothing brews a drink (which is necessary for either ability).

Precise: Your target reeks of poisoned alcohol. They must be the Distiller!

Goal: Rebel faction goals.

Lore:
You have spent the past few nights hard at work. You let your fellows commit the murder in your stead, while you were preparing your concoctions. Finally, your time has come. Tonight, you will deal your drinks. Finding the house of your target, you knock and enter. You keep yourself cloaked, but it probably doesn’t matter. They are still drunk beyond compare from your drink yesterday. You slip them another, and in their haze, they down it. You make your way out, knowing the job is done and they will be dead of alcohol poisoning by sunrise. You are the Distiller.


Rebel Investigative
Spoiler: Name: Ninja (Rebel Investigative)
Attack: None
Defense: None
Summary: You are a stalker who follows their target to the house of their visitee.
Ability: Choose someone to stalk each night.
Attributes:
- You know the role (Precise results) and name of who your target visits.
- You can read whispers.
- With the Rebel Flag, you receive the Precise result of your target as well.
- Being risen by a Retributionist, Necromancer, or Archivist will perform the ability as normal.
Invest Results: Lookout, Forger, Ninja, Coven Leader/Witch, or Juggernaut
Precise Results: Your target is quiet and always behind someone. They must be the Ninja!
Goal: Rebel faction goals.

Name: Socialite (Rebel Investigative)
Attack: None
Defense: None
Summary: You are the life of the party, who has connections everywhere
Ability: Gossip with someone each night.
Attributes:
- You will receive any feedback your target receives.
- This includes results such as Town Investigative results, as well as Town Protective messages, roleblock messages, attack messages, failed attack messages, Coven Leader/Witch messages, etc.
- With the Rebel Flag, you receive 3 votes.
Invest Results: Spy, Blackmailer, Jailor, Socialite, or Guardian Angel
Precise Results: Your target is the town’s gossip. They must be the Socialite!
Goal: Rebel faction goals.

Name: Hitchhiker (Rebel Investigative)
Attack: None
Defense: None
Summary: You are a hiker working for an insurgent group that accompanies your target where they head.
Ability: Choose someone to hitch with each night.
Attributes:
- You know the role (Investigator results) of your target, as well as the name and role (Investigator results) of who they visit.
- With the Rebel Flag, you can take gunpoint and hitchhike at the same time.
- Being risen by a Retributionist, Necromancer, or Archivist will perform the ability as normal.
Invest Results: Investigator, Consigliere, Mayor, Tracker, Hitchhiker, or Plaguebearer
Precise - Your target seems to drift between towns on a whim. They must be the Hitchhiker!
Goal: Rebel faction goals.

Rebel Misdirection
Spoiler: Name: Grifter (Rebel Misdirection)
Attack: None
Defense: None
(Unique)
Summary: You are a talented spokesperson who convinces your targets to do something against their will.
Ability: Grift two people.
Attributes:
- Your targets will visit whoever the other selected.
The target that is switched in the case of a Disguiser is the non-Mafia target.
Jailors, Veterans, Survivors, Werewolves (non-full moon), control immune roles, and roles without abilities are immune. In this case, the grift will fail and neither player will receive a message.
If any role that can self-target is grifted, the other grifted will target themself.
If a Mafioso is grifted and there is a non-roleblocked/jailed Godfather, the grift will go through but have no effect.
- Your targets will receive the ‘You were transported to another location.’ message.
- With the Rebel Flag, you can take gunpoint and grift at the same time.
- You cannot be risen by a Retributionist, Necromancer, or Archivist.
Invest Results: Escort, Transporter, Consort, Hypnotist, or Grifter
Precise Results: Your target is gifted at pressuring the weak-minded. They must be the Grifter!
Goal: Rebel faction goals.

Name: Actor (Rebel Misdirection)
Attack: None
Defense: None (Basic with Flag)
(Unique)
Summary: You are a member of a traveling show, who, after performing in Salem and seeing the corruption, has started performing for the Rebellion.
Ability: Put on a show.
Attributes:
- Put on a show at someone’s house, redirecting all of their visitors onto you.
- This gives the notification ‘You attended a show at your target’s house, and forgot why you went there. You instead visited the Actor!’
- With the Rebel Flag, you receive Basic defense.
- Being risen by a Retributionist or Necromancer will redirect visitors onto the dead body. Being risen by a Archivist will redirect visitors onto the Archivist.
Invest Results: Survivor, Vampire Hunter, Amnesiac, Psychic, Medusa, or Actor
Precise Results: Your target has a flair for dramatics. They must be the Actor!
Goal: Rebel faction goals.

Name: Rat (Rebel Misdirection)
Attack: None
Defense: None
Summary: You are a master thief who steals evidence collected by your target.
Ability: Steal people’s documents.
Attributes:
- You block your target from receiving any feedback..
- This includes results such as Town Investigative results, as well as Town Protective messages, roleblock messages, attack messages, failed attack messages, Coven Leader/Witch messages, etc.
- If you are targeted by a Sheriff or Investigator, you will have the results of your target.
- If you visit no one, your true results will appear.
- Your name does not show up when the Rebel Flag is flying.
- Being risen by a Retributionist, Necromancer, or Archivist will perform the ability as normal.
Invest Results: Framer, Hex Master, Vampire, Jester, or Rat
Precise Results: Your target seems cloaked in secrecy and fake personas, but your precise results let you see through it! They must be the Rat!
Goal: Rebel faction goals.

Rebel Support
Spoiler: Name: Saboteur (Rebel Support)
Attack: None
Defense: None
(Unique)
Summary: You are an ex-Mafia member, whose destructive skills will prove invaluable to the Rebel cause.
Ability: Use one of your tools to sabotage the town.
Attributes:
- You have two abilities that you can choose, with a menu like the Potion Master.
- Using the wrench, you can sabotage the door to someone’s house, preventing them from leaving and roleblocking them (3 uses).
- Using the hatchet, you can sabotage the gallows, to shroud the names of who votes for who and who votes innocent, guilty, or abstains (2 uses).
- After you lose all your abilities, you gain one extra gallow and door sabotage.
- With the Rebel Flag, you have infinite of each and can use both in the same night.
- Being risen by a Retributionist, Necromancer, or Archivist will perform a roleblock.
Invest Results: Escort, Transporter, Consort, Hypnotist, or Saboteur
Precise Results: Your target is the master of destruction. They must be the Saboteur!
Goal: Rebel faction goals.

Name: Archivist (Rebel Support)
Attack: None
Defense: None
(Unique)
Summary: You are a master of literature, who puts your skills to use by expertly imitating the dead off of paperwork.
Ability: Check paperwork or imitate paperwork.
Attributes:
- You can visit dead bodies to check their paperwork.
- You cannot read stoned, cleaned, or roleblockers who were stabbed by a Serial Killer they visited.
- Once you have checked a body’s paperwork, you can use that ability.
- Using the ability will appear as you visiting the target, while checking the paperwork visits the body.
- You inherit the defense value of the bodies who’s ability you use.
- You need to re-check that body’s paperwork before using it again.
- You can check the paperwork of the same bodies the Retributionist or Necromancer can use.
- With the Rebel Flag, you do not need to re-check paperwork.
- You cannot be risen by a Retributionist, Necromancer, or Archivist.
Invest Results: Medium, Janitor, Retributionist, Necromancer, Trapper or Archivist
Precise Results: Your target is a keeper of records. They must be the Archivist!

Changelog
Spoiler: Edit 1: Some changes based on Tireless's suggestions.
Edit 2: Scrapping Tamperer for now. Also made a few minor changes to Hunter and Distiller to make them more on the power level of Insurgent. Grifter no longer affects Control Immune roles.
Edit 3: Added Actor, as well as the factional gimmick, the Rebel Flag.
Edit 4: Added Rebel Support, along with Archivist. Saboteur was moved to Rebel Support.
Edit 5: More general balance changes. Added Socialite, and reworked Rat into a Rebel Misdirection.

Lacking sheriff results.
There's a swing between the three killing roles with the brewer being useless compared to the other two - 1 KPN vs 0.5 KPN.

I don't see the point in rebel investigatives.
Ninja is bad. It's useless to know the role of my target's target when I don't know who my target's target is.
Hitchhiker is not too better either. The discrepancy between your and tracker's, LO's or other's will will cause you only to get lynched.
And receiving the feedback for a role as rat is highly situational. Useful if you find a consig. Useless if you find roles that don't produce feedback.

Tamperer is weak. Choosing custom death causes isn't really influential.
Grifter sounds like a fun role. However, I think control immune roles should retain control immunity. As it stands, it's very difficult to grasp it.
Nothing against the saboteur. The vote mechanic is weak, but other than that the role is fairly ok.

I removed the 'you visit who your target visits' from trackers los ambushers and ninjas. I scrapped tamperer and buffed hunter.

Ninja should probably be removed or changed, as the hitchhiker currently is much better than ninja , and the two roles have similar abilities. Additionally, hitchhiker would be effectively immune to direct attacks, as any direct attack would go the hitchhiker's target instead of the hitchhiker, this should be nerfed so it is possible to attack hitchhiker with a direct attack. Hunter dealing a powerful attack to players pardoned on trial would probably be too arbitrary to make it as strong as the insurgent, I think this should be changed so something more under the control of the player makes the hunter deal a powerful attack- maybe make dealing a powerful attack a limited use ability the hunter has? The wiping of death messages seems unnecessary. The distiller's abilities seem much weaker than the other two in terms of killing power, and as it redirects targets I think this role would do better in a different subcategory, such as the misdirection subcategory, with the killing ability replaced with something else. Also, its not completely explained what staying at home does for the distiller.

I fixed the Hitchhiker issue, it no longer has visits redirected. Do you have any specific suggestions to fix Ninja? Also, Distiller brews a drink when staying home, giving them another charge for any ability. I changed Distiller, it's redirection ability is removed. I'll limit the times Hunter can deal Powerful, that's a pretty good idea. I removed the death message wiping.
