Reality Check

You wake up... somewhere.... You're lying on a hard floor with a bright florescent bulb in the center of the ceiling somewhat blinding you as you open your eyes. You slam your eyes shut on instinct with a groan of pain and sit up. The first thing you notice when you open them again is four other people, all complete strangers, doing the same thing. Your eyes wander some more, although there isn't much to see other than the black borders of the room, a television screen mounted on the ceiling in one corner, a white door a small key in the center of the room, and a small table in the corner with a bowl of fresh fruit and five glasses of milk. Just as you're getting adjusted to your surroundings, the television flares to life and a voice comes on over a speaker built into the television set.

"Welcome, volunteers! You have chosen to participate in this experiment. Although you may not remember everything right away, I assure you that you will in due time. I am still setting things up back here, but how about you all get acquainted with one another?"

The face of a man with a nearly bald head, slightly brown skin and green eyes is being displayed on the screen. He looks over at the young man lying on the ground and raises an eyebrow.

"Uh, William... was it? You're in the testing facility for the experiment."

"W-what? What experiment?"

"The one you signed up for, of course! It's quite simple. You're going to go through a series of escape rooms as a team, so we can measure how cooperative human beings are, even if they're complete strangers!"

[Bluedetroyer]

"Oh, escape rooms sound fun! Are they safe?"

[Multiuniverse]

"Oh. Oh you bastards."

"And you're just going to kidnap us? This has to be against the law!"

[Bluedetroyer]

"Oh. Oh you bastards."

"Well they said we agreed to it..."

"I'm guessing you're talking to the other person, oh by the way, my name is William, what's yours?"

"Then your fine prints have to be pretty damn small. I combed over it with a magnifying glass, twice"

"I didn't check the fine print at all! I only skimmed the thing and accepted any and all things they said. Should I have done that?"

[Bluedetroyer]

"Ugh, not again..."

[Bluedetroyer]

The man turns away from the room and combs through a binder.

"Let's see here...."

He mutters to himself a little bit as he scans over a page, reading the words too quietly for them to be broadcast.

[BRVR]

"Are we gonna get hurt?"

"Not unless you hurt each other..."

He turns the page and continues reading.

"So what are you reading exactly"

"The small text...."

"So how small is it exactly?"

"Correction, I'm reading the enlarged version of the small print."

He flips the page again.

"Forget it. How do we start the first escape room?"

"I've been told it will begin once you've all introduced yourselves."
