After realising how massively complicated I made my previous voting game, I spent a lot of time thinking about how to make it better. Well, not really but I felt like I needed to do it some justice. So welcome to a brand new version of it called 'The Ultimate Bracket', a faster paced version of my previous game. It's similar and the rules are pretty easy. You can join and leave at any time so if you just want to get right in the action, here are the basics.
How to Play
- You can join in and leave at any time.
- Each game pits 16 entries based on a chosen theme and it takes place over four different types of rounds; Theme Selection, Nominations, Seeding and Voting.
- During the theme selection round, you may vote one of the themes I have provided above by typing /vote {theme name}.
- During the nominations round, you may submit an entry into the nomination list by typing /nominate {entry name} as long as it fits the theme above.
- During the seeding round, you may move an entry from the nomination list into the final list by typing /add {entry name}. In addition, you may also remove an entry from the nomination list by typing /remove {entry name}.
- During the voting round, you may vote on a winner by typing /vote {entry name} on each match-up.
- In the event of a tiebreaker, the entry with the most past votes will move on to the next round. If there is a tie on past votes, the entry with the higher seed wins.
- New rules and changes may be added as I see fit. If this happens, I'll highlight them with purple and bold font.
If you follow the rules above, you're good to go. For the more advanced rules, keep reading.
Types of Rounds
There are four types of rounds per game.
Theme Selection
- Before each game starts, I will post five themes such as "Sports that don't require a ball" or "Movies that are longer than two hours". These themes will be restricted but open enough that you should be able to come up with at least a few things that fit the theme.
- Once the list of themes have been revealed, you can vote on a theme to be used by typing /vote {theme name}. You don't have to type the whole theme up, just as long as you make it clear what you're voting on.
- Once 24 hours is up and there is a clear majority, the theme with the most votes will move forward.
- Once the theme has been chosen, everyone gets to submit an entry that fits that theme. For example, if the theme was "Sports that don't require a ball", you can submit 'cycling' or 'badminton', but not 'tennis' or 'football'.
- To submit an entry, just type in /nominate {entry name} as long as it fits the chosen theme.
- You may submit one entry every 12 hours.
- Once 32 entries have been sent, the nomination period will automatically end after 24 hours.
- After the nomination period is over, the list of the nominees will be available. This may be posted by either myself or another participant.
- During this period, you can select one entry to put in the final bracket or eliminate one entry from the nominee list.
- To add an entry into the final bracket, type in /add {entry name}.
- To eliminate an entry from the nomination list, type in /remove {entry name}
- You may perform an action once every 12 hours.
- Once 16 entries have been placed in the final bracket, the final round begins.
- Every 24 hours, I will post the daily match-ups that you can vote on. Each match-up will last for 24 hours.
- You may vote publicly or privately but you may only vote once.
- At the end of each round, the entries with the most votes move on to the next bracket.
- This continues until one entry is left standing victorious.
