Coup is a social deception game where players bluff and lie to be the last one standing. Now, you can coup each other on discord.
Discord Game Rules
- Dead/Spectators may not communicate with living players about the game (this is cheating).
- All players may not communicate with each other privately- there is a public game chat one should use. Dead/Spectators get their own special chat.
- Be kind and respectful:
- Do not express discriminatory language (slurs) / attitudes (misogyny, homophobia, ableist, etc.).
- Do not direct profanity at another person/group.
From Left to Right: Assassin, Captain, Duke, Ambassador, and Contessa
Deck of Influence Cards:
x3 Assassin, x3 Captain, x3 Duke, x3 Ambassador, and x3 Contessa
Game Start/Set-Up:
Players: 3-6 (2-player variants have slightly different rules only in set-up)
Players are each given 2 coins to start.
Players are each given 2 (Influence) cards (isn't revealed to other players) from the deck.
All players must join this discord ([https://discord.gg/XAEbHek7]) as the whole game will take place there.
Goal:
To be the last one standing. This is accomplished by getting rid of all of the opponents' influence cards.
Gameplay (see this link for more details):
A player may take any of the following actions on their turn. Players have 24 hours since the start of their turn to perform an action.
General Actions
Income: Gain 1 coin from the treasury.
Foreign Aid: Gain 2 coins from the treasury. Can be blocked by the Duke.
Coup: Spend 7 coins to cause a player to lose an influence card.
Influence Card Actions
Duke - Tax: Take 3 coins from the Treasury.
Assassin - Assassinate: Pay 3 coins to the Treasury and launch an assassination against another player. If successful that player immediately loses an influence. (Can be blocked by the Contessa)
Captain - Steal: Take 2 coins from another player. If they only have one coin, take only one. (Can be blocked by the Ambassador or the Captain)
Ambassador - Exchange: Exchange cards with the Court. First take 2 random cards from the Court deck. Choose which, if any, to exchange with your face-down cards. Then return two cards to the Court deck.
Contessa - Diplomatic Immunity: You cannot be assassinated. Any coins spent to assassinate you stay in the treasury.
All general actions submissions will end a player's turn immediately with the exception of Foreign Aid. For Influence Card Actions and the Foreign aid general action, other players have a 12 hour window to Challenge/Block the action. PLAYERS MAY LIE ABOUT THE INFLUENCE CARDS THEY HAVE AT ALL TIMES Players have to claim an Influence card to block an action, so players that try to block an action can also be challenged- there is a 12 hour window to do so as well. If no player wants to challenge, everyone must say that they do not want to challenge to quickly go to the next player's turn.
If a player has 10 coins on their turn, THEY MUST COUP ANOTHER PLAYER!
On Challenges:
If at any time, a player claims an Influence card (for blocking or on their turn), any other player may challenge them. If the challenged player does not have the card they claim to have (or does not want to reveal their card), the challenged player must discard one card (reveal it) and it cannot be played anymore or returned to the deck. If the challenged player does have the card they claim to have, the host will show the challenged player's card and the challenger loses one Influence card of their choice (revealed and put out of the game). The challenged player who won will exchange their revealed card with the deck (since the challenged player won and doesn't lose an influence).
On Blocking:
A player may claim the Influence card to block an action (even if the player doesn't have that Influence card).
Blockable Actions
The general action Foreign Aid can be blocked by a Duke.
The Captain's Steal action can be blocked by an Ambassador or another Captain.
The Assassin's Assassinate action can be blocked by Contessa.
Players that try to block CAN BE CHALLENGED.
