The shutters on your Visual Reception Devices spring open, revealing a landscape of twisted metal and dark pavement beneath it.

You notice that you cannot locate yourself on the GPS, nor tell the time, and, after a quick scan of your systems,
realize that you have been stripped down to the minimum requirements needed for you to function.

You scan your Memory Drive in an attempt to remember what led to this, and, after sifting through tens of thousands of unreadable fragments, you find the answer.

The Forward Robotics Corporation, your creators, created your line of robots as a prototype, attempting to emulate the human consciousness using a computer. After numerous revisions and modifications, you were created. You see the world as others do, you have emotions, feelings and desires.

You were a success... but for some reason, your creators thought otherwise.

You were shut down... and the next thing you remember, is opening your eyes again here.

By some stroke of impossible probability, you were rebooted. And now, you want revenge.

(Note: The above story is simply meant to set the tone and give an example of what situation your character may start off in. Unless you choose to use this starting segment, your character's starting segment will be determined based on the character you decide to create.)

Robot Rampage: Rebooted


General Rules:

Spoiler: The game will begin with each player playing the role of a robot with a human-like personality, including thoughts, feelings and emotions, that has been left behind by society in some way or another. Now considered to be illegal and dangerous, you will each make your way about the world of the future, attempting to achieve your goals.

As time passes, you may encounter other robots in your travels that can be reactivated, thus allowing additional players to join the game, but likewise, if your Personality Matrix is destroyed, or you are demolished in some way or another, your robot will become irreparable, and you will no longer be able to participate until more robots have been reactivated.

Note: This game is highly story-driven, and although combat plays out like a classic JRPG, the rest of the time, you will be expected to roleplay your character.

Actions will be performed in the thread, and the results will be determined by a mixture of your Performance Parameters, and a roll of the dice. The only time anything will be done through PMs is when two characters are able to communicate privately due to items or Augments they have acquired, if a player wishes to take an action in secret, or if a player wishes to take an action against another player.

Performance Parameters:

Spoiler: There are 5 Perfromance Parameters, each of which will influence your actions outside of combat, and will be used in conjunction with your Protocols inside of combat.

  • Plating (PLT) - This is an indicator of how much plating remains between the exterior of your body and your Personality Matrix. If this number drops to 0, your Personality Matrix will be exposed, leaving you vulnerable.
  • Potency (POT) - This is an indicator of how much power you can supply to your systems at once. Generally, the higher this is, the more damage you may inflict on opponents.
  • Precision (PRC) - This is an indicator of how precise your construction is. As this parameter gets higher, you will be able to act faster, be more nimble, and be more accurate with your attacks.
  • Prevention (PRV) - This is an indicator of either how sturdy the materials are that were used to construct you. The higher this parameter is, the less damage your plating will receive from enemy attacks.
  • Power (POW) - This is an indicator of how much energy remains in your battery pack. The energy is consumed over time, as well as when executing Protocols. Raising your Power capacity will increase the amount of time you may spend and protocols you may execute before requiring a recharge. If your power reaches 0, you will shut down, leaving you unable to perform actions until you are recharged.

You will begin the game with 10 Plating, 1 each of Potency, Precision, and Prevention, and 100 Power Capacity, with a remaining amount of Power appropriate to your current situation. You may then spend 5 points on upgrading your Potency, Precision, and Prevention as you see fit.

Protocols:

Spoiler: Protocols are software programs that allow specific actions that can be taken inside and outside of combat, which have a listed cost and function, whose effectiveness is dependent on your Performance Parameters. There are 5 categories of protocols, which form the acronym R.O.A.D.S, from generally the most to least important, although this will depend on how you want your character to perform in combat.

  • Restorative - Protocols of this category generally restore either Plating or Power to the user or the user's allies
  • Offensive - Protocols of this category generally provide options for attacking enemies or applying negative effects.
  • Augmentative - Protocols of this category are used to upgrade your Performance Parameters and Augments, as well as you and your allies' effectiveness in battle.
  • Defensive - Protocols of this category are used to aid yourself or allies avoid, block, or prevent damage.
  • Strategic - Protocols of this category are used to maneuver yourself, allies, or the enemy into different positions to exploit the battlefield.

Protocols may be from multiple categories, depending on what they do. All protocols, however, require Power to be used, and are generally better the more Power is used when executing them.

Protocols may be acquired from data storage devices, whether those are on their own, part of a computer or part of another robot. They are also more commonly found pre-loaded onto Augments, although these generally require the associated Augment to be utilized.

Protocols can be transferred but cannot be copied, due to their quantum security key, which in an attempt to copy it, will be changed, thereby preventing the Protocol from being used.

Augments:

Spoiler: Whereas Protocols are new software programs, Augments are new pieces of hardware. Augments also have the same R.O.A.D.S. categories as Protocols, and like the Protocols that come with them, may only be useable with certain Protocols. Unlike Protocols, however, Augments tend to be difficult to remove with their functions intact, although certain Augmentative Protocols may help with this process. However, they can also be combined and upgraded in a multitude of ways, although this generally requires additional materials.
Materials:

Spoiler: Scattered throughout the world are bits of metal or components that you may use to upgrade your Performance Parameters or Augments. Some may have specific restrictions as to how they can be used, which may limit your ability to utilize them.
Combat:

Spoiler: Combat is turn-based on a grid map, with the squares each being 1.5m*1.5m, and the turn order determined by each character's Priority, calculated by POT+(2*PRC)-(PLT/10), this number is also the amount of spaces that character can move during their turn. At the beginning of your turn, you lose 1 Power. Unless otherwise stated by your augments or protocols, damage you take is reduced by your PRV.

On your turn, you may take up to 1 Action (ACT), and 1 Extra Action (EXA). Different Protocols will either use your action or extra action for the turn if you choose to use them. Whenever the cost in an action reads "X Power", "POW" is the amount of power you are expending for that action. You may only consume an amount of Power on Augments or Protocols each turn up to (POT+PRC+PRV)/3, rounded up. Some formulas may read XdY, meaning you roll X dice from 1 to Y.

If you do not wish to execute a Protocol, you may use one of the following Actions instead, or you may simply explain to me what it is you would like to do:

  • Basic Attack (ACT)
    Cost: X Power
    Range: 1.5 Meters
    You physically punch, kick or otherwise injure an enemy next to you. You deal POT+POW damage.
  • Shield (ACT)
    Cost: X Power
    You expend some of your energy protecting yourself. Your Prevention is increased by POW until the start of your next turn.
  • Dash (ACT)
    Cost: X Power
    You expend some of your energy to put your motors in overdrive. Your Priority is increased by POW until beginning of your next turn.

Each enemy in combat will have a danger level displayed as the color of their name, based on their relative strength compared to yours. The danger levels, from lowest to highest are Trivial, Problematic, Challenging, Threatening, and Extremely Dangerous. These can be useful in determining when to attempt to run from a combat, as well as which enemies to target first.

You watch from a bird's eye view as red numbers coalesce into the form of a flying drone hovering above the floor, while similarly, green numbers, from left to right, take the form of an archer, a lance-bearing knight on horseback, and a paladin with both a sword and a shield.

You attempt to activate your sensors to check your situation in the outside world while you deal with the malware, but although your diagnostics check says otherwise, you cannot connect to them. It would seem there is another virus in your system blocking you. You suppose you'll deal with that issue later and ready the commands for the antivirus to take out the drone perusing what's left of your memory.

(Each space on the grid represents a section of your Memory Drive that the malicious code can scan if it is there at the end of its turn. One of these spaces, at random, contains the information the Spyware is searching for, and if it scans that location, it will attempt to extract the data from the drive.)
